  1. The stroll into Ottawa's bench to make an eating motion is why it was a penalty. If he's doing it walking in the other direction - no penalty. 0-4 looks very possible for me. Not sure why I took both east teams over west.
  2. Plans are to take Mrs. mbrg out on a date. Record the game. Start watching it around 11:30 pm. Fall asleep midway thru the first quarter. Find out what happened the next day. Delete the recording largely unwatched sometime in September.
  3. At this point I'll just check - Hamilton is from Toronto. There's definitely a joke to be made.
  4. Boston is going downhill fast. Chiarelli went all in on that roster and put them cap trouble. It was the right move philosophically as they were peaking and going thru a multi-year stretch as legit cup contenders. The only real complaint any Bruins fan should have is they only won one Stanley Cup. But now they have to start the process all over again. There are always individual moves that can be nitpicked over and he wasn't perfect, but overall Chiarelli did exactly what he was hired to do - build a cup contender.
  5. I'm sure they do. They should. You can't abandon the plan willy nilly. If it works to revise it, then do that, but chasing after Frolik will have consequences down the road. What will Trouba's next contract look like? Watching him disappear over a million dollars that got shifted to Frolik's contract is a no-brainer bad idea. Stick to the plan, which usually means stick to the budget. If they can find more money for Frolik, so be it, but they'd better know exactly where that money is coming from in the roster budget and what the potential consequences are.
  6. I thought Boston could not afford to keep him. I can't imagine he doesn't want to play in Boston, I'm pretty sure he's from Massachusetts.
  7. The Jets have probably told him they would like to have some roster certainty before free agency begins. Are they buyers or not? They want Stafford to stay. Stafford looks like he wants to stay. But if this draws out and Stafford signs elsewhere the Jets may wish they moved on a different player sooner. Maybe it's one of their own pending FA's that they'd try harder to keep if they know Stafford is gone. Maybe it's going strong after another team's FA. They could be pitching that guy on becoming a Jet right now if they felt Stafford needed to be replaced. So they tell him if he wants to be here they'd really like to push to get this done. He understands and will at least try to push to get it done too.
  8. Dammit I almost made it all the way through the thread without seeing my "dark horse" pick... But I'm still taking Tyrell Sutton... Sutton is a dark horse? Pffft. Henry Josey Toronto you freaking disgust me. Now that it's too late to change my TSN picks you activate Whitaker from the PR. Fine. Chad Simpson. Hope he runs wild on you guys. Wait a sec, did I pick the Argo D? Frick.
  9. Chicago Blackhawks Connor McDavid Coke Classic Raw Carrots
  10. The other part of the Watson for a draft pick and cap room trade. Once known as the throw-in, then as the training camp fodder, maybe finally known as his parents named him - Kris Bastien. He's not going to get to start until someone ahead of him gets nicked up, that's just the way it works. Once he's in, they might not be able to take him out. He's done everything right so far, and I have no reason to believe that will change once he's in a game situation. Two other players.
  11. Players who didn't have to suck up to Glen Suitor to get their ranking.
  12. Because you picked him. Now he's jinxed. No, only because you mentioned him ... You guys are all cheating anyways, you're supposed to pick Darvin Adams.
  13. Nice graphic. something something something REDBLACKS something something Dear ESPN - we aren't humouring them anymore. Sorry, humoring.
  14. The Bombers grade seems about right. Not sure how the Lions and Als in particular grade so high - is Josh Bourke really enough to turn what would be a B- for the rest of the lineup into an A? And yes, TSN is sniffing the Riders farts again, but until the season starts name recognition is the only way to do a list like this, so whatever. Which is why it's dumb to do lists like this.
  15. This largely arbitrary list once again seems a bit too...arbitrary. If you're the kind of person who is surprised to find balls in the ball pit at ChuckECheese, then being surprised at the level of dumbness of a really dumb list will be right up your alley. Rage on. (waiting to see who will be first)
  16. You think he got unfair treatment because he's Canadian. Half the American QBs who have attended previous Bomber camps as the 5th QB would agree. He got to stay for the entire camp. They got cut after the first week. Pretty unfair he got to stay longer.
  17. Is the Shark Club in Winnipeg as ****** baggy as in Calgary? I've never been to the one in CGY, but I will go with YES I've also never been to the one in Calgary, but YES.
  18. I'm not going to pretend I know all the intricacies of what constitutes a non-counter, but signing a contract doesn't negate it. All the draft picks also sign contracts too and they are considered non-counters. Simply saying it wasn't a waste of a roster spot. And if he wasn't there and one QB pulls a hamstring then you're down to 3. Three weeks of camp with lots of 2adays, those end up as tired arms. Better to have one too many QBs than one too few. Tired arms don't make for proper evaluations and are more prone to muscle strains. Yantz did not get the same number of reps as the other QBs. That's always the way it is when you're at the bottom of the totem pole. You have to use those limited opportunities to do special things and climb your way up.
  19. Because you picked him. Now he's jinxed.
  20. I've got plenty of gin to donate. Don't really drink the stuff. Not sure why I have so many bottles of it...
  21. Yantz was a non-counter. It's not like his spot could be used to bring in another import DB.
  22. He's right, life's not fair, yada yada. He gets a few chances a day, during those chances he has to show he might be better than at least one of the guys ahead of him. If he does, he piques the coaches interest and gets more chances. They don't care about Portis either. They'll just keep the guy they think is best. I don't think it's sour grapes, there are lots of guys who probably feel the same way in every CFL camp every year. The only difference is none of them are local, so the local reporters don't call them up to do interviews about their feelings being hurt.
  23. Someone let the kid from the Rifles know - grown men are talking about his butt.
  24. There will be a point where injuries happen and new players get revealed, but that point isn't week 1. I'm fine not taking Cornish, that was just an easy example to explain the problem. It doesn't even work to take 2 average priced players.
  25. Has anyone tried making picks yet? The player pricing is so inflated it is impossible to take Cornish and still have starting players at all the other positions. Last year it was mathematically impossible to have Ray and Cornish on the same team. This year it's impossible to have Cornish and any starting QB* even if the cheapest possible option is taken at all other positions. There are combinations of players that work, but not a lot, and even several of those are only possible with taking Redblacks at multiple positions, which is a terrible idea. Willy better have a fantastic year, because as the cheapest QB option at $225k, he's going to be on almost every team in this league. *The situation with Ricky Ray/Trevor Harris temporarily makes it possible.
