  1. Might be a player out there who makes us better. Might not be. GMs should be talking every week. Maybe Walters dialed the number. Maybe he just picked up the phone. So far, nothing to see here. Maybe that changes. Right before camp starts, GMs take stock of what they have and what they might need. It's a good time to explore a deal. As for Greaves, his best year was above average, but I don't see him ever being a CFL all star. It's a spot that could stand to be upgraded, it just was never the spot where I would have started. Now we've made changes to almost every spot on our Oline, it's Greaves turn to be challenged for his job. Chungh looks to be an upgrade, but it's a risk to count on him being ready to step in by week 1. There are not a lot of plausible trades right now that involve Greaves that would make the Bombers better overall going in to camp, but there could be a few. Walters will approach these conversations with an open mind, as he should.
  2. If that happens it's still unlikely that Greaves will get cut. But sure, Greaves for surprise job loss not affecting actual employment status.
  3. He had the youtube highlight video to end all videos. Most linebackers get a hits like that in once or twice in a career - Slay had clip after clip after clip of him destroying RBs coming thru the middle. Terry Ray on Pat Woodcock level hits. Kuale on Pierce for the younger crowd. His numbers are otherworldly, but so was Slay's video. Just going to wait with cautious optimism until he shows something similar on this side of the border. I've been burnt before...
  4. Due to Duane Slay, I will maintain a holding pattern of cautious optimism for the time being.
  5. I thought it was fantastic - every day tends to unfold more or less the way I knew it would, and the things outside of that are generally not very surprising. So seldom does something truly unexpected happen. Even here, we all have our established routines. And then one relatively normal day it shows up in a thread - Khalif Mitchell denies the holocaust. That's not just unexpected, like landing Westerman. That's unexpected and just totally random. Not even with 8 hours of sleep and some good peyote would I have come up with that. Not as surprising - Khalif Mitchell is still an idiot.
  6. Scott McHenry.boom - drops the mic I think you need to pick up that mic. He signed with the Riders after being released by the Bombers. Not really the same situation. NO ONE PUTS MCHENRY IN THE CORNER!!!
  7. Walters said he's coming in to compete for the 21st NI spot on the roster - a special teams guy. They want to have competition for every player* on the roster. *except Hajrullahu
  8. It's impressive you've let that sit on your desk since 1997, waiting for just this moment. Fairwarning though, McDonald's mayo only has a 25 year shelf life, so you'd better gobble that down by 2022.
  9. pssst - Hamilton....I don't want to tell you how to do things, but you might want to think about drafting a linebacker in the next round...
  10. Yeah even with the Laval team telegraphing the play the D just never catches on. CIS football! I was more surprised to see them playing without berets on and cigarettes dangling out of their mouths. I am very disillusioned about Quebec football. I still will assume that halftime consists of teams lounging on the grass with a baguette, a block of cheese, and some wine.
  11. I suspect once Hardy went off the board at 10 they didn't feel they could take that chance.
  12. Yantz definitely did not look out of place in last year's training camp. And if he's willing to Sinopoli his way over to receiver...could eventually be a sneaky gem of a signing indeed.
  13. Based on what? Name recognition? I'll hazard a guess that there wasn't a moment last night where Walters said "Not that guy, his talent level is too high". The problem every year is people form strong opinions on players they know next to nothing about, based almost entirely on a Duane Forde column, and then spend 2 months shaping his thought-farts into fools gold. Did Walters evaluate the players correctly? We won't know for a while, but I have no problems with his evaluations being different from Forde's. They'd better be, otherwise anyone could do his job. Walters did not do what I expected, but I also have enough sense to know my expectations aren't based on much of anything other than being part of a fan site.
  14. It's always best to plan for all CIS draft picks to spend time on the bench. It's a rare exception that can start right off the bat - even Muamba didn't get the starter job until he'd been a role player for about 24 games. If we're pleasantly surprised, so be it, but I doubt the transition from CIS to pro is so simple that Demski or anyone else can be counted on to do it.
  15. From a need vs availability perspective, I will grant Bender that the current Bomber roster screams out needs at receiver, but just doing a needs analysis does not take the grades of the draftees into account.
  16. I ran Bender's tweets thru a translating service and they all came out as "Rum rum rum rum rum rum rum rummy rummy rum". I was only slightly surprised.
  17. Since I'm not entirely familiar with the talent level of the ______ (pick any current or future) draft class, does it look like there are any receivers in next year's class that might be at the same level as the top receivers in 2015?
  18. More so I find it laughable how Eakins has turned into the whipping boy for all of Edmonton's problems. Nevermind firing Krueger for no real reason in the first place, or putting Eakins in charge of the team when he could have been hired to be an assistant coach under Krueger, having never held any coaching position in the NHL before, or the stunning amount of misses on draft picks outside of the top 3 spots, or ignoring D entirely at draft time, or misjudging the talent level of all D pursued in free agency (and whatever Justin Schultz counts as). Message received. This was a team full of potential. They could have finished 13th in the conference!!! Maybe even 12th!!! Eakins torpedoed Edmonton's hopes of finishing 12th!!! BURN HIM AT THE STAKE!!!
  19. Considering what they moved to bring him in and what they brought in to move him out without him ever catching a pass, this does not seem like the finest chapter in Taman's trade bio. ^^^ what Tburg said
  20. I would suggest after week 5 or 6 he looked very mediocre. Saying he only struggled in a couple of games is a wildly generous statement. The list of QBs who have come into the modern era CFL and experienced both immediate and consistent success is very short. Ricky Ray. Perhaps Bo Levi Mitchell could be added. Your expectations of what a first year starter should be doing does not fall in line with what history has shown to be common.
  21. It probably has more to do with you going thru 2 full rounds of the draft without anyone taking Waud. Which is unlikely. And you have on more than one occasion argued the Bombers should take him 2nd overall.
  22. Strong rumours that were all bullshit. Character is what got Taylor Hall taken #1 over Tyler Seguin in their draft years. Hall is all heart and character. The eastern media likes to talk a lot about the Oilers without having a hot clue what's actually happening there. The only cancer in the Edmonton room was named Dallas Eakins. They took Kevin Lowe's lanyard away?
  23. Mulamba won't be here this year - he's still on his first chance, not his last. Bilukidi on the other hand, he's used up most of his 9 NFL lives. I wouldn't be surprised if he is cut before training camp opens in the NFL.
