  1. Brilliant. Will be stealing and passing off as my own. As to the rest of the post, I just think this was the plan all off season. We never brought in a vet QB, even before Ermergerdsma was signed. Perkins was signed with the hope that he could fill the Streveler role. Whether that’s purely SY or the primary backup will likely depend on how the preseason goes, but I’m putting my money on Ermergerdsma.
  2. Elgersma has been getting second team reps the entire camp. Perkins can be the SY guy and veteran ban-aid if needed. Thorne could have been our PR guy - but I guess didn't want to. But Wilson was getting cut if he didn't force himself into the back-up role and he didn't. So he beat Walters to the punch.
  3. No one is throwing Elgersma to the wolves though. Zach is the undisputed starter. We're talking about who is the SY yardage guy and who is the most capable of coming in incase of injury. Against a bunch of other rookies and Terry Wilson, Elgersma has a decent shot of finishing ahead of the pack.
  4. Where are you even getting this from? Everything across the board is an improvement from last season. Zach looks good in practice. He loves targeting Wilson and White. It sucks that Wilson is out, but we still have some time before the season. We spent half a season last year with Demski as the only option and still hit 10 wins. The defense was great last year and only added pieces. Vaval is still returning kicks. Brady running behind an improved OL. Why the doom and gloom?
  5. Well, so far a 3rd American hasn't even received an opportunity. That said, they just cut Mcghee from the secondary and he had taken every rep with the defensive starters. Still, I look at as their plan is to start 2 Americans, 2 Nats, and then rotate between Vibert, Daniels, Chris-Ike, and Cobb. I don't think the 5 receiver set will be the most common alignment. Not at all. Ontaria seems to be having a great camp, but also mixed with going down every other day. We have no receiver depth to absorb losing one of White, Wilson, Demski.
  6. 8-2 with Nichols starting though. And never got our butts kicked in the two losses.
  7. For me it's not about slighting the CFL - we know what it is for guys (especially the young Americans) - but that it shows a lack of awareness. You're going to be competing against career CFLers and you're making this statement to CFL fans. You need to be pretty ignorant to make this statement. That is important context that I was not aware of, thanks!
  8. Yeah, he got injured in 2019, hence bringing in Zach and re-signing him as opposed to Nichols.
  9. Yes. There is so much movement and trade offs in our back end. And it sounds like there's going to be more of it going into this season the way guys are already lining up. The rookies are going to have to prove in the film room first, I think.
  10. "possible interest for 2027" sounds like a way to get a guy out of your office without making a scene.
  11. Literally nothing was said in the “day one wrapped” article.
  12. Dunigan and others would also get you 20 INTs a season. Today's QBs don't get to gunsling like they used to.
  13. But what do you mean by "turn a profit"? Are you only referring to what the team makes through ticket sales, food, merch? Or are you including TV deal, gambling and league advertising revenue? No, the new moves will not improve attendance. But they will inject new moey into the league which is distributed to teams regardless of high or low attendance.
  14. Attendance is not the only factor anymore. Play-off games have double the TV audience, Ad revenues sold by the league instead of the teams, additional gambling revenue (which is where all the new money is coming from). All of this will affect the TV deal which is currently being negotiated. I don't think the league cares if people buy tickets or not for the additional games. It's not why these moves are being made.
  15. The idea would be to have more summer dates which already do successfully recruit more fans.
  16. If anyone listened to the conference call and heard the plan for the kid and why they drafted him, it really makes you excited to see the possibilities. I think Mike mentioned that Condell drafted a similar player while in Hamilton and was 100% the impetus behind drafting Daniels as well.
  17. There are a lot of people criticizing the new play-off structure without understanding how it works. 1v2 in week 1 are the divisional showdowns. But the other games are not confined to the west/East. It's #5v8 and #6v7. In round two, the match-ups are reseeded. And in round three they are reseeded again. It's one of the reasons teams wont be able to "clinch" and rest their starters. You're not just in a season long battle to be in the top 2 in your division, you also are trying to have a better record than the two top teams in the other division. Your record will dictate your match-up in each round of the play-offs. Problems this is solving: People complaining that weaker East teams are getting home play-off dates ahead of more deserving West teams A 1st place team only needing one win to make the Grey Cup Revenue More play-off games when negotiating the new TV deal = even more revenue Players Union negotiated a bunch more money out of this deal 8/9 teams makes people believe the opposite, but this format actually increases the stakes for most teams later into the season Trade offs: More games and money necessitated more teams to compete
  18. He was drafted less than 1 year ago and then spent all of preseason with the NFL up until final cuts about 7 months ago. I understand people want him to make the commitment to the CFL, but until May, he hasn't really missed any unexpected time at all. In his mind, he is trying to parlay some UFL time into another NFL camp and that process hasn't played through yet. And until it does, any expectation that he's just going to pack it in is nonsensical.
  19. I expect us to bring in a retread with experience. Retread vs. Perkins to be our #2 and SY guy. The other 3 will compete for the chance to join the PR. I would not be surprised if one of Wilson and/or Artopeous didn't even make it to camp.
  20. I just don't see the 7 or 8 failed attempts. I think he didn't succeed on plan A and is on plan B. The guy has been told since he picked up a football that he can't make the pros. And then he came within a single roster spot of an NFL roster, so he's gone on to the next step, which requires him to wait for the UFL season.
  21. No one. The most likely outcome is that he doesn't receive another NFL offer. But in his mind, this is the path to the NFL. He's addressing what he was told was his shortcoming by getting experience in the 4 down game. He believes that he can earn a spot and impress some scouts.
  22. This is his exact plan. He was told by the Green Bay HC that the biggest knock against him was that he never played the 4-down game. He's obviously going to play in the UFL this year and hope that parlays him into another NFL tryout.
  23. Was there talent available to this extent?
  24. Wanna take a wild guess at when Phillip Rivers threw his first pass in his rookie season?
  25. It would be an anomaly for this particular preseason to have been used to evaluate a player. It seems more likely that Mitchell was determined very early to be the starter and Chris Smith and all the other were just filling up reps.
