Willy, Bellefeuille, this one is on you guys!
KptKrunch replied to USABomberfan's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Ok iso - can you try to explain the last play then please? It was a hail mary if you recall, or at least, it should have been. Now, I was watching on TV, I wasn't at the game, so it is possible (but highly improbable) that all his receivers were tackled at the line of scrimmage. A Hail Mary is the easist throw in football to make. The QB stands back, counts to 3 or 4 than throws to a pre-determined spot and hope for one of two things - a Miracle Catch or a PI call. He stood there for about 4 second, then ran laterally to his left which means he can't throw, then he gets sacked. You can't defend that play iso, it's undefendable. All Willy had to do was throw the ball, and he didn't. That's on him 100%, and there were other times he receivers were open, He can't see them iso - Marve and Brohm play with the same players - they had no issues did they? First the receivers have to get to that so called spot to try to catch a Hail mary. If they are late getting there what's the point of throwing to no one in open space? Or a qb can try to extend the play by a second or two by running outside the pocket, reset & throw deep so the receivers can get where they need to be. The problem was all night the camera was on the qb not the receivers so we have no freaking way of knowing why Willy was holding onto the football longer. I just know that qbs are like everybody else. If they're getting beat up they don't stand there absorbing even more punishment. They hurry their throws. They hurry & don't take longer. I suspect a very good BC defense had a lot to do with not letting our receivers get open & that's why Willy was holding onto the football. And if that is true, then why weren't we changing up the play calling? More Cotton, more run, more PAP, shorter quicker routes, etc, Nothing changed as the game went on... Bellefeuille has a lot to answer for. I agree with a lot of your points, but remember Suits showed two plays where he had wide open receivers - Cotton on a crossing pattern and another 'short man'' where his 'coverage' was 6 yards behind him. Willy took sacks both times. No matter what the excuse, it's just that - an excuse. Willy is not getting the job done, hasn't for weeks now. Marve must start next week, watching Brohm and Marve last week against Calgary underlined that point. Those guys did ok with the same oline and same receivers. Both made plays, especially Marve. Willy - not so much. -
You know that's the first good argument I heard about that. That could very well be why he didn't throw the hail mary pass at the end, figured no one would catch it, and didn't want a 'third' interception, so lets just take a sack. I agree - I don't want to see him throw another interception or incomplete pass for the rest of the season - don't want his 'stats' ruined lol. So I say - start Marve, with Philpot (or whatever his name is) as the backup. Willy can sit upstairs with MB.

ummmm not a chance. You see, when he steps out from behind the kiosk to show you a phone, he'll trip on the packing tape holding the electric cord in place, and fall on the phone and break it. He'll be fired after a few days (and a few dozen broken cell phones lol)

Yup.. Threats of violence always make your point more valid..Smh. No - thats more frustration I get what he's saying. It can be infuriating when a 'fan' only see's what they want to see. Willy had all kinds of time to throw, he had receivers open. It was hilarious, on the telecast, Suitor tried to make a point that all the receivers were covered. The 'short' receiver was about 6 yards underneath the coverage, but of course Suits was on a roll so he said he was 'covered'. About 10 minutes of game time after that, Beck got the snap, turned, and fired a dart to Gore I believe it was, who was 'wide open' just like the bomber receiver was above, only the bomber defender was about 3 yards off him. It's amazing all the apologists there are for Drew 'freakin' Willy. At least more fans are finally starting to see what I've been seeing since mid-August. He hasn't nearly been good enough, and tonight was his worst start yet (but low an behold he finally threw another TD pass). But yeah, I get his frustration. I get the frustration.. You would have to be a compete moron not to be.. There is simply a right way to vent or express it and a wrong way... But yea, willy and bellfool are both wearing the goat horns on this debacle.. Willy for not just throwing the damn ball into the stands or to check down and marcel for not shortening up the game plan to get the ball out of willys hands quicker.. I don't think he meant what he said 'literally'. We're all frustrated. Hey, I was taken in by Willy too in the beginning. It was so nice to see a QB come into town and actually look like a QB for once. I really hope this season is a 'learning' one for him and he comes back next year as good as he started the year at and then some. I really hope he can take the next step. I just hope the Bombers prepare and start Marve next week because if Drew picks up from where he left off this season next year, he won't be the starter here come August first and I hope we know whether or not Marve could be. He's shown more promise to me in preseason and his very limited time in regular season play then I can recall ever seeing in a Wpg BB recruited QB. Even McManus never looked that good (he threw laser beams when he came into games, but never to his guys lol). -

I dunno - on the third sack, Mo Ellimeennimummmm was picked by his own player, Cotton was running free and clear not 15 yards from where Willy was, and I'm sure that play was designed (as in Cotton's pass pattern) to be a 'check down' for him. I know they are there, Willy just can't seem to find them for some reason. Though I do agree a new OC is something we need, and a new DC too.
-
Well, don't want to start a new thread. Vented in the chat room (thanks for putting up with me guys lol). I find it pretty embarrassing for us though when a third stringer can come in cold off the bench (Beck not Marve but he can too) and look cool, confident, and throw lasers to his receivers right off the snap. I do agree that it's a 'team' effort in a win, as well as a loss, but you gotta believe if we had a guy like Stoudemire, Cotton, or Sears as our QB (i.e. a guy that can 'make' plays) we most likely would have won that game going away. We do have one, in Marve. He 'made' plays last week against Calgary, he just didn't jump around the pocket and go down in a heap time, after time, after time, well I won't type it 10 times but you get it. I say we start Marve next week - and that's not to suggest Willy shouldn't come into camp next year as our #1 QB - but if it's widely felt here that Drew is 'beat up', and clearly his confidence is, he has none, starting him next week is going to be an exercise in futility. I want to see Marve - I want to see him get the 1st team snap reps all week, I want to see Calgary's defense prepare for him, and I want to see how he does. Otherwise, I'll find something much more entertaining to do next week, like I dunno, clip my toe nails or something. I don't want to watch another Drew Willy sack fest next week.
-
Cotton was one of the few bright spots (along with the play of Johnny Sears). These guys make plays. Wish our QB (well one can but no we don't play him) could 'make plays'.
-
I loved that play in the second half, Grigsby gets the ball, he 'brushes' by an Argo who's being blocked, loses his footing and goes down behind the LOS. I'd be shocked if he plays next week, or if we ever see him in the CFL again. 17 - that's why I wanted to see him.

No reason to start Willy next week. As far as I'm concerned he lost the #1 job tonight. We should at least see what Marve can do, and put Portis in for a bit, see what he can do too. We've seen what Willy can do - he needs to re-boot and get ready for next year. -
Lions @ Bombers GDT - - Win Or You're Out
KptKrunch replied to Noeller's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Because he's shown to be highly capable, it's his first year as a starter and he's surrounded by (at most times) a pretty terrible supporting cast?My god the first 6 games of the year left quite an impression on you didn't they That's the thing isn't it? And best part - the first 6 games was 'all Willy' and the last 9 - 'Oh it's the 'team''. You can't give one guy all the credit for a win and none for a loss. I've never seen a team get as many penalties as BC did, especially in first half, and not get blown out. That's on Willy -
Any one who watched Grigsby play here knows that it doesn't matter one bit what he does in Hamilton. Guy was too soft and too much of a sissy as a running back to be effective in Winnipeg. It's an easy position to recruit for, why settle for someone who goes down on contact that easy and hesitates before hitting the line of scrimmage? Any scouting department worth it's salt should be able to find runningbacks who can do the job. The fact that Cotton when given the ball looks better should show that Grigsby ain't worth worrying about. It's only two games, but realistically the guy (Cotton) has had limited reps and it does take some time to get your timing down in game speed, plus the whole offense was a train wreck in Edmonton (for some reason, Willy and the Offense match up extremely poorly against the Edmonton D - 3 points at home in their first game and 3 points in real time, 6 in garbage time, here in Edmonton). I hoping Cotton has another strong game. But.... I'll be watching Grigsby to see if he's a liar (the fact it was 'him' against the world here) or telling the truth. yeah, I'd chalk it up to the fact that they have a crazy powerful D-line, and we have a shitty offensive line Yes that, and the fact they don't even need to blitz to get pressure, keeping their guys in coverage, using a zone/man mix (lb's playing zone underneath and corners playing man) basically shuts down any offense if the QB only has two seconds a play to make a read and a throw. I hope we see Willy get better protection tonight - would like to see a win to close out the season at home

Why do you need to watch Grigsby more? We saw him plenty here. No one is saying the OL is blameless, that's why what happened with Cotton in Edmonton is less concerning, the OL got worked there.... but they don't get worked every play and Grigsby we have seen leave a lot of yards on the field. Look if a guy is met by 2 or 3 DL in the backfield then yes we can put the blame on the OL, but if he stops running in the backfield and goes sideways and then gets caught that's on the RB, if he has a hole but gets tripped up by an arm that's on the RB. If he runs into the backside is blockers past the LOS that's on the RB. Grigsby did a lot of those things and that's why it doesn't matter what he does in Hamilton. Cotton seems to be a much more elusive back who is willing to just run into traffic and maybe find a way to squeak out a few extra yards. A lot like Roberts did (on your last point). Why do I need to watch Grigsby? Well, I never said I 'needed' too, I did say I would be. I want to see if he can break tackles. I want to see if he can hit holes hard. I think part of the issue is was not on leading the team, but the league, in TD's with 9. The fact they are 'sitting' him, and it not sitting well with him, well I don't know about you, or the rest of you, but I don't want a player on this team, who's healthy, to be accepting of a healthy 'scratch'. I don't condone him asking for his release, but I have no idea if he asked for it because he was sitting, or if he asked for it because of something else. I'd like to think though, given that this is the CFL, and he's a running back, and as mentioned many times here are a 'dime a dozen', and he has a family, that giving up gainful employment (no guarantee another team would pick him up) is not something a player, any player, would want to do if it was just a simple 'sitdown'. This story reeks of something bigger - so yeah, I'll be interested to see how he plays. Especially against the only team he ran for 100 yards + against (126?). I really don't believe he 'quit', I do believe his choice was practically made for him, MOS never did say what his other options were did he?
-
Some interesting points are made for sure. Definitely when a team is 'leading', the best way to control the game is to run the ball, and if you are behind, you need to score as quickly as possible, which is through the air. So I do think the stats are skewed to a certain degree. But, all that being said, it's 92% of wins as TLB says. That statistic is too large a number to be dismissed as 'happenstance'. 60%, even 65%, I fully buy into the "running the ball in the lead" argument. 92%... not so much.
-
Yeah I was hoping to see him here in Edmonton (obv knew he wasn't going to be there being on the six game and all) but yeah he's one of those guys that everytime he gets the ball you think he can go all the way.
-
I thought they put him on the six game? So they took him off obviously, he's back? That's great if true and not a misprint.

Als @ Redblacks / Riderst @ Stampeders
KptKrunch replied to USABomberfan's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Well, the REDBLACKS are NOT playing the bombers so I expect a low scoring game again from them. -
draft picks are crap shoots for sure, even in football where men (not boys like in the NHL) are drafted. Primarily, it is injury related. But C'mon, he passed on Nate Coohorn and drafted Jade Etienne (who chances are would have been there in the second round) and he drafted Pencer even though he already had a history of injuries. He also drafted Mulumba even though he had already committed to the Green Bay Packers. If history has proven anything, it's that guys like Mulumba are still available and picked in the 2nd/3rd round, especially if a team has multiple picks as they can afford to waste one on a hope and a prayer. Mack could've done a lot better than what he did. Only saving grace (no thanks to Mack) is Etienne did bring us, eventually, Drew Willy. But he did not draft well, and I don't think he even fully understood the CFL draft. Walters does.
-
Wow nice way to endear youself. I, for one, am relaxed. But tell me, please, name me one QB, just one, not a big deal, that has played for the bombers since Tom Clements that completed two passes like Marve did. And just don't tell me, find the You Tube video of it an link it up so I can see it. I can't recall a QB do what he did twice in one game, especially coming in cold off the bench. I never once said he's our #1 QB, what I did say is he showed enough he should get more time. I also said, based on our 'awesome' play of our Oline, that Willy - who has proven not to be mobile (look at how McCoil nailed him for the safety in Edmonton) that, right now, he's not a very 'effective' QB in our system. Marve has shown he can move, he can improvise, and he has the arm strength and accuracy to get the ball down field. I"ve seen them all, from Don Jonas, to Brock, to Clements/Hufnagel, McManus (too briefly), Dunnigan, Salisbury, Burgess, Rubley, Kopp, Tee Martin, Garza, Jones, Glenn, etc. etc. etc. Just too many to mention. Marve is the the first home grown (as in Wpg Blue Bomber recruited, not some other teams cast off) QB I've seen since McManus that has shown real promise. Shows Real Promise. Shows Get it? He is not the next all star QB necessarily, too small a sample size. Way too small. But I want to see more. So shoot me. A typical 'stupid bonehead' that wants to see more of a QB who showed really well. I just want to see him get a start, as in working with the starting offense all week first, and the opposing defense (a somewhat good point by Goalie I think it was - though Brohm = Willy in terms of style so there's really adjustment a defense will make, they have the same plays, Brohm executed them in Edmonton, Willy didn't, or couldn't but either way Willy had a terrible game here) with a week to prepare for Marve. Then we can see what he's made of (still a small sample prize- I still remember Tim Cowan and his 486 yard 5 TD performance for B.C. against Hamilton in Hamilton. Remember him? Probably not as he never amounted to anything so one game does not a career make) but I want to see. That all being said, for all I know Drew Willy has some kind of monetary incentive to reach 4000 yards passing. If he does, then for sure, I would start him. He deserves every chance we can give him to get those 4k yards. If he doesn't have a clause though, and B.C. beats the crap out of him (like every one else has been doing these past 3 months) then I see no use in starting him in the last game of the year. I'd rather see him backup Marve, and have Marve get all the reps he can so we can see how he does. If he shows like he did in a half, and he wins the game, then next year, it should be an open season our #1 QB ,not Willy's job. The best QB will win the job. If that's Willy - so be it. Either way, I don't think we can lose (far better than Hall and Goltz)

Like I said in another thread when I posted he was going there the day after he was released, you guys better hope he does fail. If he goes for over 200 yards and is OPOTW - what then? What does that say about our offense?

Brohm has a broken thumb; Willy to start
KptKrunch replied to TBieber's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Make no sense to me, Willy hasn't played well for Weeks now he hasn't earned the start based on his play other players have to sit and wait their turn but Willy gets to start based on what ? I won't be watching if Willy is playing I am done with stupid coaches starting their guy let the best players play ! Tired of Romby Bryant as well and EJ would be playing if he wasn't injured MOS neesd to learn to start his best players regardless of salary or who his favorites are... Willy IS the best QB, don't be ridiculous. Suggesting he's not is bordering on idiocy. I like Marve and think someday he may be better than Willy. That day is not in the near future though. I agree with your statement. I cannot for the life of me figure out how anyone could think Marve is the better QB right now. Well, Willy has been very ordinary to bad the past 9 weeks. But, I get why MOS will start him as despite Marve's great play Willy does give us the best chance to win. I mean, on one hand you got a Qb who's been playing all year, and mustered all of 23 yards passing and 1 yard net offense against Edmonton, and that same Edmonton defense, the next week, went up against a QB who hasn't thrown a ball in over a year, and he mustered up 23 yards passing in his first series. Yep - Willy is the man for sure. Willy is the starter.. Period. We are STILL in a playoff hunt amazingly.. So why would we go with our #2 guy? What you are saying makes absolutely no sense.. So willy had a rough game against one of the best defences (who got to game plan for him..) big friggin deal.. Yes, Willy is the starter, and a Statue, and getting pounded, and he has a bad shoulder. And you better check back, he's had more than one 'rough' game lately. Like I said - short (or selective) memory. Ok Spuds, lets see how Willy 'lights up' B.C. this week. I'll be waiting with baited breath on how you and Goalie will defend him after the B.C. game when we are officially eliminated from the playoffs. -
Brohm has a broken thumb; Willy to start
KptKrunch replied to TBieber's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Not as much as you like to think you do. Records speak for themselves? what was Reillys record last year? Actually, Reilly is worse this year than last year. I think he has Buck syndrome. Remember the year Buck showed up all jacked up? His accuracy was terrible. I believe the throwing motion of a QB is a lot like a golf swing for a golfer, it's all muscle memory. In other words, in the heat of the battle, when a QB is throwing the ball, they aren't really thinking of the mechanics of the throwing. Reilly's 'touch' isn't there, he's been over throwing his receivers all year. The Eskies are winning because of a superior D, solid special teams, and great coaching. The bombers actually remind me a lot of how the Eskies were last year - in a lot of games but not quite finishing them off. With some good recruiting in the off season, maybe we can, if not duplicate, at the very least be in the thick of a playoff hunt with a few games to go (some will argue we still are as memories are really short after a game - we're done). As for me - I know what I see. I don't have blue and gold glasses on. Willy was very good his first few games, he's been average to terrible ever since. Brohm/Marve were playing with the same Oline and same receivers Willy was on Thanksgiving, and in fact only had what three days of practice, or was it two, before their tilt with a well rested Stamps team. You think Willy played well against the Esks? Brohm was way better than him, in the first half. Not sure what you're watching, don't really care. I'm sure Willy will be back next year and a much better QB but right now, this year, he's looking like a second fiddle to Darian Durant, which is why we have him. So EXCUSE ME for wanting the Bombers to actually get a QB that's not someone's 'hand me down' - how many Anthony Cavillo's are there? One that I know of. You go on believing that the Bombers will eventually strike gold with cast offs. Me, I'm in Marve's corner. He's a guy WE recruited, and WE are developing. He has a long way to go yes but the kid has talent. Willy..... what will you say about him this week when he throws to yet another loss. And remember, Brohm/Marve are playing with the same group of players. If they can make plays with them...............................
