  1. Living in Edmonton, I don't expect a bombers win at commonwealth. I have yet to see one since moving to Edmonton. My first bombers/esks game at commonwealth was when Lumsden was with Edmonton, and we saw him more injured on the sideline than we saw him in the game.
  2. If the bombers looked like a possible playoff threat and the riders winning gave us a chance at getting in, I might be able to not cheer for, but be appreciate of a Riders win. With a bombers team that has been lifeless and isn't a threat of any kind, the only joy that remains in this season is watching the Riders lose. In my viewpoint there's only 2 acceptable outcomes to a CFL season, 1. Bombers win a grey cup (a mythical outcome I've never seen) 2. The riders don't win the grey cup
  3. I haven't lost interest, but this season is more disappointing than most as in recent years we've just expected a terrible football team. This year we were given brief hope that the team wasn't terrible, never expected good, just not terrible.
  4. So let's take a look, so far compared to the same point in the season last year Calgary, is taking 1 penalty per game more for an additional 8 yards per game Sask, is taking 1.25 penalties per game more for an additional 3.5 yards per game Winnipeg is taking .7 penalties less per game for an additional .1 yards per game Montreal is taking 1 less penalty per game for 2.4 yards per game less BC is taking 4 penalties per game more for an additional 26 yards per game Toronto is taking 2 penalties per game more for an additional 24.5 yards per game Edmonton is taking .8 penalties per game more for an additional 4.7 yards per game Hamilton is taking 3.5 penalties per game more for an additional 15 yards per game overall there are 2.8 penalties per game more for an additional 21 yards per game in penalties though 2/3 of this season vs first 2/3 of last season The reffing sucked last year too! Not sure where these numbers came from, but the CFL actually keeps official track of this data and their data shows that penalties are up about 18% (3.3 penalties per game) as of September 22nd. There are penalties being called on roughly 13% of the snaps. Offensive penalties isolated are up 30% from last year, which is where a lot of the hold up in the flow of the game has been in my mind. Dead ball fouls have seen the smallest increase, which again kind of supports what I'm getting at, because they don't result in a play being overturned. took the stats from cflmedia.ca number of penalties per team and yards penalized per team and then did the math. Took the week 13 file from last season which had 12 games per team, and the most current file that was available this year which has 12 games for all but 2 teams.

  6. so coles notes of this thread: Rookie QB isn't perfect?
  7. Their gross averages aren't nearly as important as their net averages. If Renaud places the ball better, coverage teams will be more effective and his net average may very well be longer. I could be wrong but I think every team has a punter with a higher net yards than lirim *edit* NET PUNTING NO NET YDS AVG WHYTE, S MT 102 3,664 35.9 WATERS, S TO 96 3,721 38.8 MAVER, R CA 89 3,413 38.3 MAHER, B OT 91 3,439 37.8 SCHMITT, R BC 90 3,272 36.4 MEDLOCK, J HA 89 3,125 35.1 SHAW, G ED 74 2,832 38.3 BARTEL, J SS 72 2,483 34.5 HAJRULLAHU, L WP 65 2,244 34.5 MILO, C SS 27 950 35.2
  8. What are the thoughts out there on playing JFG over Romby, and if a national receiver goes down you put Bryant in then. Bryant hasn't seemed to do very much this year, and when JFG was on the field he was making more plays than I recall Bryant making. I'm far from an expert, so don't crucify me if this is a terrible idea, but it just seems JFG was earning his playing time early in the season.
  9. I will agree, those 2 throws are back breakers BUT we shouldnt even be in those positions to have to force those throws... Also, the guy whos making those ints is the same cool customer who has orchastrated 2 (or 3?) Unreal last minute combacks.. Good with bad.. Unreal comebacks against the East. The interceptions are completely unacceptable. A #1 QB gets you those comeback wins while also not throwing games away. It's what makes qb's great. Frankly the lustre we saw on Drew is coming off mighty fast. Do you realize Willy is essentially a rookie? He's still learning but has all the tools, both mental and physical, that you'd want in your starting QB. He can be a rookie until the cows come home but he's had years learning behind Durant and is 28. And bad decision making isn't something you can necessarily fix overnight. If Willy indeed does have bad decision making and can be made to panic in the pocket we're in for a very very long rebuild. And people wonder why Winnipeg doesn't develop any Quarterbacks? Not everyone is Ricky Ray. So Willy is 28, has thrown for 2889 yards, 12 TD and 11 INT according to cfl.ca The first time Anthony Calvillo threw for 2889+ yards was in 2000 (and Willy is there with 7 games left) he also had 27 TD and 5 INT, that was his breakout year in those categories. He was 28 The difference between 28 year old calvillo and 28 year old Willy is prior to 28 Calvillo had 1697 pass attempts, 14,279 yards and 76 TD and 76 INT Willy prior to to this year had 147 pass attempts, 1182 yards 9TD and 5 INT's So give him time, it takes time playing to develop. Calvillo had 6 seasons under his belt before he broke out, you're freaking out when willy has half a season where he's actually playing.
  10. Did you not watch the game? Turnovers were probably 4-2 in favor of the bombers. Did you? We had at least three turnovers. I was just thinking I forgot about the turnover on the fake punt

  12. I'm slowing gaining faith in them. I actually had some belief that they were going to score on the final drive last week. Winning our next game after the Edmonton debacle helped me a lot. I had faith last week. A co-worker texted me offering a bet (I already lost a bet to him in the Edmonton loss), with just under 10 minutes left in the 4th quarter when the bombers were down 26-20. I took his bet, even if I was a bit nervous on the last throw when it looked like he threw the ball straight up into the air. Some losses will come at some point, but I say just enjoy the ride, there are way too many people on here who seem to expect or want the bombers to lose (not directed at you or any other individual, just a general observation, the chat room is probably the worst place, the vocal minority playing chicken little waiting for the sky to fall) Just enjoy winning some games, cause we all know it's been a while. ***** when they hit a 5 game losing skid, but for now just enjoy the games.
  13. this feel familiar to anyone else? Two missed 2 point converts, the first being questioned for how early it was, leading to protecting a 1 point lead late in the 4th quarter?
  14. I wanted to make the trip this year from Edmonton, been wanting to see a game there since they updated the stadium. Instead going to my first game at IGF August 7th vs the Riders. Work offered to send me on a work trip to Winnipeg so I scheduled it around the bombers home schedule. Hopefully next year I'll make it to BC place for a game.
  15. at the game JFG stopped running actually, he slowed down, if anything JFG misjudged the throw a wee bit. It was pretty obvious in person, He got his hand on it, he stopped running for a few seconds, If he didn't, Touchdown. I'm going to say it, Watson makes that catch and scores,JFG has been good but Guaranteed Watson catches it and scores. JFG has been a very nice surprise though, not really much press when we signed him, but has turned out nice for us. watch the game if you pvr'd it. The throw was behind him, he slowed down because he had to try get back to the ball. If he keeps running he's nowhere near the ball. It was a ball that could have been caught, but not an easy catch because he had to slow and turn back to reach out for it being behind him.
  16. I've heard a bit of talk from co-workers so far, only one has been willing to follow through their talk with a wager when I offer it up, so I'm eating free tomorrow if the Bombers win tonight.
  17. The biggest one I wondered about was actually the last play of the game, from watching the games so far it seems coaches can challenge PI in the final 3 minutes, although I'm not 100% sure on that. But if Montreal wasn't going to try for a rouge why not just throw a hail mary on that last play and then challenge for PI. If you get a PI call you kick a field goal and win, if not you still lost.
  18. parking definitely sucks at commonwealth. There's an LRT station near the stadium, there are quite a few park and rides and 30-40 bars/restuarants that do shuttle service, although probably close to half of that is all the boston pizza locations here (there are BP's everywhere here). Big reason I don't go to many games is the lack of parking, with what the travel time would be I go for the more comfortable seating at home, cheaper drinks and settle for 58" screen and surround sound. The area around Commonwealth sure looks like North Winnipeg. my brother and his gf were moving out here and asked me to look at an apartment near there, I said no, find a place south of the river if you want to be in that part of town. I wouldn't live around there, they drove by when they came out and then thanked me.

  20. I haven't got to see a game at IGF yet since I live in Edmonton, but I've made it to one day of training camp both years at IGF. The day I was there this year I was sitting right in front of the media group. The entire time they talked about photo radar tickets, they weren't watching training camp or talking about anything relevant in any way. When Gary Lawless showed up halfway through the day I moved on because it's bad enough when I have to listen to him talk about anything on TSN.
  21. That only works if the top 6 teams in the league are the 5 west teams and the top east team. So if you assume that there aren't any weak teams in the west then I can agree with it, but I don't buy the premise that every west team will prove to be better than the bottom 3 east teams which is why I didn't bother to include it in my original question. For your scenario all it takes is one weak team in the west and then Calgary plays 6 weak east games and 2 weak west games for a total of 8 games against "bad" teams Toronto then would have 6 against "bad" east teams and 2 against the "bad" west team for the identical total of 8 games against "bad" teams.
  22. I see this quite often on here, and honestly don't understand it in a 9 team format, can you or someone else explain why you think this will be relevant to overall record? 5 West teams play 2 games against each east team (8) and remainder (10) against west 4 East teams play 2 games against each west team (10) and remainder (8) against east So a west team plays 10 against west and 8 against east And a east team has 10 against west and 8 against east
  23. I don't have kids, want kids or even really like kids, and with that said, your ignorance is absolutely astounding. Well that is a bit rude calling it ignorant. Do you feel the same way when everyone says the same thing? or just me? Cause I think it's safe to say everyone in professional sports feels the same way. The kid was born last week not yesterday. If anyone else said it my reaction would have been identical, it was early enough in the thread I didn't realize you had intellectual shortcomings yet. And for the record what I found most ignorant wasn't saying he should miss the game, it was about having his kid outside of football season. There are so many situations where that just isn't practical or possible. So I felt my original phrasing if anything was nicer than you deserved.

  25. NFL Team A says to CFL Team B we would like to sign player C, we will give you $X if you release player C. Without waivers player C is now a free agent and signs with NFL team A instead of being able to be picked up on waivers by another CFL team. At least this is what I can gather from the idea, but don't know the CFL waiver process from the old CBA since teams seemed to release guys to try the NFL before without them having to clear waivers.
