Five players fined after week 3.....Picard!
ddanger replied to Fatty Liver's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Wasn't Picard released over salary cap issues?? -
Optimist, Pessimist or Realist for Friday
ddanger replied to BigBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I'm nervous for Willy, I hope he gets through the game okay. If the medical doctor says he's good to go, then he's good. That being said, I'm not sure he should get another conk on his noggin. We can't be over confident because they have some injuries, but we should come out fired up to prove last week was an anomaly. A perfect result is Drew Willy ending the game healthy and our team winning. -
I agree there seems to be a penalty on almost every play. Far too many penalties. Perhaps there will be an adjustment to the new rules, but I recall last year seemed like too many penalties as well. Lots of times I think we need to let the boys play.....

Good News, Bad News about Bomber season so far ...
ddanger replied to IC Khari's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I think, no I know, that the bottom line is we seriously sucked against a very strong team. We had no answers for their early blitzes that took our starting QB out, and we didn't have any ability to fight back against a team that was on cruise control for the entire second half. Stats are fine and I'm glad to see we are doing well in a couple of categories, but we need to play way better if we are going to accumulate any points, which is ultimately the only stat that matters. -
[MERGED] Drew Willy Watch And Fine Discussion
ddanger replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
According to Lawless in the Freep this morning that still is a penalty. If you lead with your head, it's a penalty. But I expect that's what Bradbury will say, the guy was finishing the tackle and had no intent. I'm not a ref, but that's a penalty all day long as far as I'm concerned. Lead with your head?? 15 yards thanks. Injury a guy when you do it?? 25 yards and an ejection. -
A "we want Marve!" chant last night says it all I think. Is Brohm Bellefeuille's Boltus 2.0? I think so. I can't really understand how anyone could possibly defend Brohm's performace last night, he just has no tools whatsoever it seems like. If Marve has first team reps this week and playcalls are designed to his strengths he may definitely surprise. The QBs have to be put on the field to show their worth, look at Cato tonight. He's killing it in Calgary. There's nothing worse than watching CFL coach stubbornness who go with their guys through thick and thin no matter how poorly they perform. This is the way it is with O'Shea, in the post game interview he said that they would give as many reps. as possible to Brohm as #2 just as they did Willy last year. Translation: Until Brohm is injured and unable to continue Marve is not getting playing time regardless of the score. I truly hope you are wrong about Brohm continuing to play. I was thinking last night at the game that perhaps they were testing Brohm much like a baseball manager tests his pitcher. Can he fight his way out of the jam he's in?? The answer, with regards to Brohm, is no. I, like so many others posting on this thread, think that Brohms arm strength is simply not there. I thought his throws more often than not looked like a rookie's throws. Low in the dirt, high, causing his receiver to leap and stretch out, exposing him to injury. If Willy can't play Brohm will start, but I expect a short leash. Wait, I demand a short leash!!

I agree....not only is the kid injured, but he gets cut on top of it?? Brutal. I realize it's all about the cash, but surely they have to provide him some medical care??

A few quick thoughts from the game last night: I liked Adams, Marshall, Chungh, Willy and Marve. I thought Chungh played well, although the right side of the line had trouble in the second half. I know we like to draft and develop, but I think Chungh has played well enough to get a chance to start next week. Goosen played well at centre in the second half, if Picard gets hurt I think we'll be fine there. Marshall is a big body with great speed, I'm liking that for sure. Scary when our two running backs go down early in the game. Was glad to see Cotton back out there. Adams made lots of plays, he was impressive IMO. Didn't mind Hurl at MLB. Marve and Portis were fine, I think Brohm may be gone. Our defence couldn't tackle anything in the second half, that's a big concern for me. Hell they didn't do much tackling in the first half either!! We had a 3rd kicker there last night, wore #74. Who's he?? Santella didn't get much of a look, with his passport I think he needed to do way more than that. Chad Remple the long snapper is money. Hajrullahu punted great, missed the convert and a field goal, better play better than that if he wants to make the NFL!! Somebody won $35K on the 50/50 last night, wished it was me.

I like Drew Willy, I wish he had a bit more zip on the ball. O'line looked good in the first half, the one sack in the second sure looked off side to me, but the back-up L tackle didn't adjust and both left side guys took the same guy, leaving our QB exposed. Marve looked good, and so did Portis, Brohm in and out pretty quick. For a guy with a knee brace man can Marve run.

[MERGED] Pre-Season Game 2 (Depth Chart etc)
ddanger replied to Noeller's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
It is possible that their plan @ #4 has been Jordan Yantz all along and that the battle for a QB position has been between Marve and Portis. That's a possibility I guess. It appears that Janz will dress on Friday night. With Willie getting the first half, that leaves little time for the others to battle it out, and virtually no time for Janz. I'm thinking if he doesn't play, then he will either be cut or put on the PR if there's room. -
I've always been of the opinion that the players need to decide the game, no matter the sport. I agree with you guys, too many flags grinds the game right down to a halt, and no one wants that. This is going to be a different start to the season, there will be some weird penalties called, fans will flip out, and then when we score, the convert from the 32 will be very strange for sure!

First Cut Down Day - list of players released
ddanger replied to Jacquie's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Any chance we can get back onto the topic at hand?? -
Here's my thought on this thread: So Brohm has the stronger arm, but remains in the pocket. Marve can run, and from what I recall from last year, demonstrated quite clearly that he can escape when there's trouble. EXCEPT, he has bad knees. Everytime I saw Portis I wished I could see him in a game. This year we all strongly believe our o'line will be better ( how could it be worse?? ), and we should see Marve get the opportunity to demonstrate whether or not he can stay in the pocket. If he has "happy feet" when he doesn't need them, and Portis actually shows something, then perhaps Portis moves up at the expense of Marve. And we have Janz on the PR. In Janz's case, I think it's the PR or nothing. This game will be a huge test for Goosen and Chung. Road teams always seem to take a rookie filled roster when it's the first exhibition game. They want to win the home game, the road game is strictly about evaluation.

Richards likely will ( at best ) make the PR. Can't make the starting team when you don't go through training camp. I'm encouraged to hear that he was at least running a bit today and catching a few throws. And yes it sounds like the Bombers have a few decisions to make at receiver and DB. Lots of Canadian players still in the hunt for starting jobs which I really like to see..

Bomber Camp Day #1 rating the best/worst
ddanger replied to TuscaloosaBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Probably the 'line' of TC reports - it's hilarious, a little over-stated, but memorable. and its so true. Its funny some fans can stick up for someone that flakes out day 1. Yes if he is injured that is a reason to be excused but he isn't injured. he is sore and tired. That shows you the mentality and the key difference of NCAA players vs CIS players. Also its strange MOS would put up with that. Dave Ritchie would not put up with it. Zero chance any NFL team would put up with it. So you think (2) things. 1) why MOS is puting up with it. 2) is there something more to the story. If he really is just sore and tired, then its a huge issue. Even NCAA programs wouldn't put up wit that. I expect there's more to it than him being tired. If he's "sore and tired" he's never going to make it as a pro. He's played CIS football for what 4 years?? He knows how it feels to be sore and tired, and how to play through that, he's injured. -
Guys the reports are great! Thanks very much. Now.....let's see a report on our new O and D lines!!

Multiple 2015 CFL Combine Participants Failed Drug Tests
ddanger replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Good point. Until the CFL ( and really the NFL and NHL ) get serious about testing, this problem will never go away. -
Bombers sign LB Hurl, WR Adams, OL Bryant & Dile, DL Brown
ddanger replied to Mike's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Yes I'd like to see Sears come back. Sad to see that the team is moving on (?) from Glen January. He's worked his backside off for us over the years, played through pain and injuries, and has been our best o'lineman without doubt. -
Do you not remember how bad our long snapping was when Ian Wild was injured? We absolutely had to do this. Fitzgerald can be a backup long-snapper (maybe ) and can play some tight end.

Which Bomber Free Agents will seek greener grass?
ddanger replied to Fatty Liver's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
We need to open up the bank for Wild. I believe he was the heart & soul of our defence all year, and we were noticeably different when he wasn't there. Never mind he was also our long-snapper......which we also need to deal with for next year. -
Completely agree with this. We needed a change of pace with the offence, needed to put in Marve and change things up. Willy had a bad game, he admitted it on the radio last night, and he needed to take a seat. I get that it might have been tough on his confidence to do that, but how hard was it on him to get pounded into the turf over and over again??
-
Brohm is the same type of quarterback as Willy, except Willy throws with more authority. Marve on the other hand brings a completely different dimension, and, IMO should be the one we hang onto. I haven't seen Portis yet, hopefully see him before the end of the season.

Cotton played behind an oline like we had the first games of the year where Grigsby ran for 120 yards. In last week's game where Cotton played behind the same line Grigsby had been he did just as little. Cotton did have a very good game but surely you will admit the line was totally different than it had been since the beginning of September. It takes two to tango!
-
I liked what I saw out of Daniels. Goosen I think will be okay, just having 3 Canucks there changed the defence for the better as well. Everything changed with the mobility of Marve, and that I think made the line and Cotton look better. That being said the big boys did open up some sweet holes for Cotton to run through, was really nice to see.
