Perhaps attributed to RP2 (Run pass punt), a staple of how Lapolice likes to call things, and one poster who I haven't seen in a while here named DR CFL has pointed this out before. I've noticed the play selection is often run on first down, then call a short pass short of the sticks and hence 2 and out. This has been a play selection pattern that has followed Lapo around not only with Nichols out there but Strev too. It was done back in 2011 and before that in 2002-2003 as 17to85 points out. The players don't always execute which is on them, but this conservative nature has always been Lapo

Similar thing was mentioned in the MTL gazette article that was just posted here about the league making the call to fire Reed too. The league is atm of course the body who owns the Als. I know what you mentioned about them possibly firing Sherman at the time and now kicking Reed out could be 2 unrelated incidents. But somehow I just get this weird feeling that there are in fact dots connecting the two.

A few other ideas about the mess in Montreal crossed my mind. Wonder if any of the unnamed sources popping up in that article was Mike Sherman. Could any involvement of his in this rumored embezzlement case have led to the odd timing of his firing? Could he have been about to be a whistleblower on this and Reed latched onto that firing him before he could? I know all of this is just a ton of speculation on my part and not really with any base. But two things are circulating in my mind. 1. The Wettenhalls had always said when questioned about the Als that they were never even considering selling them. I mean, I know in a business things can always change an owner's mind, but it just seems odd to be so firm in that position and then just out of the blue decide to sell. If this fraud was going on and they were in it, maybe someone threatened to go public with it and blackmailed them into selling the team, or they figured the fudged financial reports were going to be noticed soon and figured it was time to parachute out knowing Reed and maybe Bolvin would end up hanging for it. 2. Just like Reed's firing, Sherman's firing was so odd too. I saw a new one there in firing the head coach not right after the previous season had ended, or even several weeks into the new one, but right before it even started. It made no sense for the GM to be so sure he was keeping his head coach all that time, then suddenly not only fire him but lie about it saying that they had parted ways sending him quietly off into the night as it were. And then now Kavis Reed gets axed right as the team gets to 2-2, also a strange development. The Als executives have certainly attempted to keep what could be one of the biggest PR nightmares in franchise history under wraps, and if I'm one of the new owners I'd be calling for a full investigation into this. But man, this just wouldn't surprise me in the least.

I found myself laughing about about the lines of "Reed's reputation getting damaged." Lol, since when was it ever good? That's news to me.

And perhaps being why they decided to jump the ship and figured ehhh ... We'll just let Reed go down with it lol. Embezzlement wouldn't surprise me though given the Wettenhalls' known ties to mobsters

1. That is something that I do not believe either I, nor any other person here has the complete answers to. The men in charge being Chris Jones and Ed Hervey ... You could write a book titled "Inside the Mind of Jones and Hervey" and theorize about all kinds of decisions they made, and I suspect it'd be a New York Times bestseller. I do know from watching him there and in Saskatchewan, Chris Jones was in my opinion probably the quickest to change QBs rapidly under any situation, sometimes seeing it work well, and other times seeing it backfire. Nichols himself was actually a victim of this, and it happened to be against us in one game where ... Well long story short we ended up getting beaten bad as was usual in the Drew Willy days against the Esks. The subplot was that Nichols was pulled, although the problem wasn't that he was missing throws as much as guys like Adarius Bowman dropping them. Jones pulled him anyway in that game and stuck in James Franklin. I can only speculate, but it appeared this move ruptured the relationship between Nichols and Jones, and either Nichols wanted out, or Jones was higher on Franklin going forward (most likely), or both. Because Nichols never started any more as an Esk and many Esks players threw Jones under the bus about his style after he left. Bottom line though we picked up Nichols and the rest was history. 2. As some of these previous couple posts were mentioning, i do believe WRs are an attributable factor to this. Lapolice may be pushing for more of them early in games as well, but yeah i do believe a bit healthier and more confident Nichols also does this.

Well, at least I don't have to hear fans knocking him as being injury prone the way they did Dresser lol I would also say it's always been pretty much in Lapo's DNA to always go conservative or ... Play not to lose with a lead

Or if only O'Shea would have allowed the offense to pick up those measly 3 yards. Although .... I suppose there could have been a danger of Lapolice outsmarting himself in that situation with the play call.

Well, on to the next one and the Rod Blacks errr Redblacks face us part two. I was right that Jonathon Jennings would be seeing the field soon if Davis didn't pick his game up, but ... Wow even sooner than I thought. Throw Long Bananatyne was just bringing up some of Jennings's past games in the other thread in which he did well against us, but I figured in dissecting the game as a whole things have greatly changed since the 2016 and 2017 years. Last time he came here early last year he was atrocious, and our defense has only gotten better since. My take ... We've been jumping out to early leads here just about every week, if we continue that trend I suspect we'll be in control for most of the time once more. Just gonna need to use a little more unpredictable stuff in the 2nd half and maybe use the Streveler package some more - talking to you Lapolice. I suspect Winston Rose, the underrated CB who I will go so far as to say is better than Tre Roberson will come down with a couple more picks on Friday. I would bet Hardrick will be fine, Bighill back, but what about Jeff Hecht? Derek Jones is a concern out there.

In some ways certainly, and I definitely say he can be quite selective about it. But based on a number of passes I've seen him pull the trigger on I would hardly call him "resisting". I would probably say he wants to make sure he has a highly favorable matchup such as Adams, Demski or Whiteheads speed where he feels they can cut open and beat their man. As mentioned earlier, if it's someone who's a bit raddy at running those routes such as Lankford, or maybe in the past JFG, I highly doubt he'll take that shot. He may have the fewest, although in the last game I watched him play I don't recall Nick Arbuckle attempting any deep ones.

Ehh, maybe but if I recall right we had actually nearly pulled a major come from behind win at McMahan not too long before. They only beat us cuz Parades made this ridiculous 54 yarder or however long that was. Think the issue would have been more O'Shea's inexperience though considering that 61 yarder by Medlock should never have been attempted.

Perhaps a better way of expounding upon and bringing this into context would be considering some past posts made about Nichols in regards to his deep throw abilities. For example, last year or some time in the past I was seeing posters continue a rumor that the Esks dropped Nichols off their roster in our hands because they did not like his deep ball abilities. The problem is, no links or hard concrete evidence was ever posted to support this rumor which makes me have trouble buying it. Problem is, it appeared that the rumor was continued, and hence some posters would conclude based on buying it that Nichols would always be bad at throwing deep balls. So hence, while not actually using that specific word, one could infer that their notion is Nichols would be permanently bad at throwing them.

Yup like in this Google dictionary, among the relevant references, which is: a widely held but false belief or idea subtext under that, an exaggerated or idealized conception of a person or thing kinda like the one floating around last year and this year that Nichols permanently sucks at throwing deep balls

Pretty sure I've seen many posts by posters like chip in game threads this year saying Nichols sucks at deep balls. Those are myths being perpetuated.

To go back and bring a little context here to the Lapolice post you were addressing, it was not even directed at you. It was more directed at trueblue83 post 426 page 26, line about 17to85's take on Lapolice: "In an earlier post he blamed the West Finalresult squarely on LaPo.... that's a joke" Take the post there for what you will, I see it as an attempt to let Lapo off the hook, maybe you don't but hence my post more in response to that. 2. Well I think I know how you feel in regards to Nichols deep balls, but if I see any posts that show up saying or implying anything along the lines of "Nichols sucks at deep balls," yeah ya damn right I'm going to call those out as debunked myths whether or not he hits every single deep ball he throws on the money this year. 3. Good, I can agree with that. But I still say QB accuracy measurements can be highly subjective things with inconsistencies at times. But sure, I'm willing to look beyond simply the numbers of completions or completion ℅.

Do you speak for every single one of Nichols detractors and know what every single post that's ever been made on this forum critical of him has ever said? Second part is your position, but would you project it onto every single one of Nichols critics or Lapo defenders? 2. Maybe all true, and obviously you don't like my terms of debunking myths or you have a different definition of it than me, so fine. But can we both agree then that that narrative is not going to be brought up again this year since you yourself have just said "he's been much better at it this year?" 3. Please enlighten me on what scenarios I've ever made up for Nichols passes or ever specifically said every single completion he's made he's never ever needed a receiver to bail him out on. Pretty sure just about every other QB whose played in this league could see that accuracy scale tip up and down all the time. But really man, small deal anyway and only a big one to you.
