  1. Tuning into the Als game right now Here's hoping it isn't old Rod B again
  2. Yeah I was going to say we've only been realigned back to the west for 1 year so far and Calgary last year in the preseason pretty much makes this point a non-issue.
  3. This is a stupid post, TSN is part of the basic cable package everywhere is it not? This is just people whining about not wanting cable and that sort is entirely screwed up in their thought process. I want to watch TV but I refuse to pay the price to get tv channels so I can watch TV. Netflix won't last as it is forever, content owners are already looking at ways to have their services themselves. Netflix itself has even stated that it's goal long term is to become HBO faster than HBO can become Netflix. They are putting a lot of emphasis on their own original content rather than getting bent over trying to get other content providers to license them content. It's going to be cable packages on the internet rather than TV in the future and that's a damned shame. The local TSN (i.e. TSN3 in Manitoba) is always in the basic cable, but the other ones aren't always depending on tv provider. I get what you're saying though. I don't understand the type who download everything and use illegal websites. Why risk it? It's cheating. I don't think you guys understand what the man is saying at all. He's talking about buying a sports package online that covers the CFL for a monthly fee or something so that way he doesn't have to buy a whopping cable TV along with internet to see it. And yes such packages do exist. MLB TV is one such package, you don't need a Cable subscription to get it, you can get it purely over the internet, same with NHL Center Ice in the USA at least. In both you have the option to add those as part of your cable package, but you don't have to have one in order to get those, and even NBA TV has something similar. I don't know if up in Canada you can buy those online but you can in the USA. The NFL doesn't have that option in North America, but some people use VPNs so that it thinks they're coming from overseas and they'll use those to buy a Gamepass package, which technically isn't legal, but it's hard to tell when someone's using a VPN. But even if you do have to be overseas to do this, it still is their way of making it available to those who do not have the option to get direcTV. The CFL really could do the same thing for expats stationed across the Pacific. Also if you're in the USA, you actually can watch most CFL games without having Cable. ESPN3 which shows the games that TSN is broadcasting, is a pure online streaming format of ESPN, and all you need to get it is just an ISP that carries it, not a TV provider. Now if the game is being shown on ESPN1 or ESPN2 on TV, then yes you would need one, but most of the time you can get by without one. Bottom line though, there are plenty of services that use online streaming formats to bring content when you need it to a specific audience. And by the way I don't see Netflix going anywhere in terms of making their product less available to their current crowd, especially when competitors like Amazon Prime, iTunes, and others would immediately capitalize on a fumble like that. Bottom line, the music industry didn't just stick to radio airwaves to make their new content available, and just like going to the store to buy new CDs for every new song that comes out now is totally unnecessary, same thing can happen with the sports world.
  4. I call BS on this I read it on Twitter. Didn't mean it that way, I mean TSN is copping out on this and making up excuses to do it.
  5. well check that, I guess that schedule they had there was assuming there would be a game 7 which there is not, so maybe yes those greedy bastards will get the game on now
  6. They should but according to this ... http://www.tsn.ca/tv#/ Doesn't look like it. Don't understand why though, 5 channels and 5 of them gotta show the 2015 US Open and Jimmy Kimmel's game night while the real game is going on.
  7. Not me thanks Yeah me either, especially not Marve, Sunseri's arm is much weaker, and even when he has had time, his long range accuracy has been terrible. Plus I tend to think he gets the deer in the headlights syndrome based on what I seen in his games. I also like the way Marve has been developing and think his ceiling is way higher. As to Goltz, I'm not calling for him back, but I'm not all that surprised that he seems to be doing better in Edmonton. Playing for incompetent coaches can make you look way worse than you are and may not always reflect the best of your abilities. Simpson I believe had some nagging injuries in 2013, plus having that bad O-line in front of him didn't help either. But I always thought he was decent. As to the other game, I know many people disagree on this point, but I think the Redblacks really do have a coaching problem. I know it's not the only thing, I think Hank's age is just too far up there and he just isn't seeing the field like he used to, and he won't be playing much longer either, but even if it is only preseason, I just don't feel any different vibes coming out of there or anything that says that team is going to be improved. I could be wrong, but if I was a Redblack fan, I don't like what I'm seeing period going on over there right now and it reflects poorly on the coaches. And for those who put this squarely on Marcel D, I'd hate working for or with that guy too, he's certainly proven he's an idiot before, but I'm looking at the here and now and blame Campbell and his staff because the referendum was to go out and get more or better talent onto that roster and especially fix those WR problems. Desjardins did that and even Schultz said the Redblacks have more talent on that team this year, so someone in the front office did their job. But when results pile up on that field in trainwreck fashion like they have been even with upgrades, there's a coaching problem. I don't see anything playing out much differently than last year for them and Rick Campbell's rope is going to run out I'm willing to bet.
  8. Yeah, those are pretty much my thoughts on the matter. Manny Arceneaux didn't play either, so yeah, that's pretty much all their main starters on O sitting it out, which makes plenty of sense. As to the QB situation, there is plenty of reason for Leo fans to be concerned about Lulay's situation and as was mentioned here earlier, they may be in a bit of denial as to just how far he can go this year. I don't fault them for staying loyal to a guy who's accomplished much over his career with them there, but I think the chapter may be about to come to a close though, like it or not. Beck did not play at all tonight, and based on the limited time I've seen him play in in the previous seasons, he may very well be on his way out. Partridge isn't much better and he too looked bad tonight, even if his series was limited. Jonathon Jennings may be their future QB who knows, he's got some potential there and probably even just as much if not more physical ability and talent as Glenn, but he lacks the kind of experience that someone like Glenn who's been around for a while and knows how to bounce back from bad games and follow up with good ones would know how to do, and in a league that can throw a lot of those mental curveballs at you like that, that's a critical part of the game there. All in all, I don't think I'd conclusively say that BC is terrible, but we have kind of an unknown with Tedford, an uncertainty about which of their players will have a good year, as some can be a little streaky, and overall, I just feel BC is in the middle going slightly backwards as opposed to going forward.
  9. Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't such moves be Mr Buono's call? Or did they kick him out of his GM seat or degrade his power in bringing in and upgrading talent?
  10. 6-3, Well at least Rod Black might have taken his meds tonight
  11. Well I guess TSN finally decided to show up out at McMahon tonight and cast the stampeders. Should be a good one in theory and I'm curious to see what BC has in contingency this season in case Lulay doesn't make it through. It's not quite as good as the regular season but as long as Rod Black isn't calling this game, I'm liking it.
  12. I did used to think that if a game was tied at the closing seconds, a team shouldn't have to lose a game because somebody shanked a FG and the ball either went out the back of the endzone or the opposing team failed to get it out, That to me was something I originally saw as a bad play that was falsely rewarded, but as you can't really just kill a clock and run it down to the closing seconds that easily, and as that scenario doesn't happen too much in this league, it actually does add a great twist to the game. Plus the opposing team if they can't get it out can also kick it back out of the endzone into the field of play if I recall right, so there is that. Plus it can also be a benefit to a team that's down by 1, misses a fg, and gets a rouge out of it. Plus as opponents get the ball at the 35 yardline, most teams aren't going to go for it.
  13. I think the main point of that article was to poke fun at ignorant US football fan statements, and I think it was pretty well written actually. Overall, the bias against the CFL isn't nearly as strong as you might think. I know a lot of American fans who like watching the games during the down times. I think the main deal that kind of keeps them from being too glued into it is that it runs into the NFL and college football seasons, and nobody's going to give up any slots in those times when their NFL or Alma Mater team is playing to watch any CFL games, that's just how the beast runs. Overall, I don't find too many opinions coming from Americans too degrading on the league, the people I got real problems with are some of the Brits I seen writing blogs or articles on American football in general who admit they don't know how the game works even but feel they can have credibility in writing about it and talk down on it. That's what I got a problem with. I don't mind if they prefer their version of football to ours, it's a sport that's got some good deep rooted traditions and history and can be a fun game to watch and play in the video games, but they should know if someone tried to degrade that sport when they know nothing about it, it'd make em look pretty stupid and as such, they shouldn't be trying that tactic with our football either.
  14. Kinda funny I was just thinking of Trestman today, and I actually think this time his time in Oakland will actually go well, he actually is a household name there as he was also the offensive coordinator there when Rich Gannon was QB and had a lot of success on offense. Plus now he's working with Del Rio who's a pretty respectable guy and Derek Carr the QB he's working with now is a guy who listens to his coaches and learns the game, not an idiot like Jay Cutler who was and is still a disease on that Bears team. I know the Raiders have been known as the NFL's gutter team but I think they got the people there now who actually do have a great chance to make that team good including Trestman. Trestman was hired by the Ravens. Dohh, musta misread that thing cuz of what i was thinking of with the Raiders. But there again, very good situation for him, Harbaugh (John) is a good coach and Flacco has a superbowl mvp trophy to boot along with his sharp QB skills, so I definitely think he landed in about as good a situation as he could've hoped for. Plus if there's any good omen for Trestman to take comfort in, the last 2 ravens' offensive coordinators (Jim Caldwell and Gary Kubiak) were also fired from their previous head coaching jobs, but after good showings in Baltimore, were hired again by other teams, so Trestman just might get another shot at head coaching again.

  16. I suspect anybody that hasn't gotten their last chance to crack this roster will get significant reps this next week
  17. Overall ... well obviously we got some work to do on defense, didn't really get a good look at our running game which is what I was kinda hoping for but was kinda disappointed Randle's numbers weren't a little better rushing. Marve impressed again with his rushing and passing TD, even if he only was 4-9 passing. Overall, qb play was pretty good though. Any win is good but gotta remember this is only preseason so you can't read that much into it. But I'm not happy about the prospects of new rules people are talking about. I consider any rule additions to be bad for football and think the CFL needs to work at getting rid of them.
  18. To some degree, lack of on the field success can always be placed on the coaching staff because they are the ones responsible for player development, and so far I don't think Campbell and co are cutting it in that department. Burke didn't either, now he too had a bad GM he had to work with, but he was not properly developing young players into professional ones like his counterparts had, and that's something you can't just let a guy off the hook for just because the GM is sub par. Now if Mr Desjardins is messing around with the coaching staff and causing problems off the field by meddling around making it difficult for Campbell to do his job, then ok, maybe you cut Campbell some slack if that's the case, but all reports I've ever read on this subject are that Campbell alone is calling the shots in that department. I also look at the fact that they went out and grabbed a bunch of WRs to fix the problem they had last year with all those dropped passes that plagued them and with all those moves they've been making over the offseason, logically those should translate into more wins, and if they don't, I'd say the fault lies with the coach's inability to develop cohesion on that team more so than a GM who isn't proactively making moves to help the team. Year 1, ok they're an expansion team just getting started and people have to know they don't know completely what they got yet so you just roll with it and don't make any drastic moves other than firing Mike Gibson. Year 2 though, you go out and sign those players specifically to address those glaring needs, like a GM should do, it's up to the coach now to do the rest. Who knows, it's early, maybe the Redblacks will exceed expectations and win at least 7 games, but if not Campbell should and will be fired Desjardins or not.
  19. It's both, but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Rick has to win 7 games MINIMUM, absolutely no less are allowed, to keep his job.
  20. I predict Rick Campbell gets fired at the end of this year
  21. Yeah I was thinking with all those channels TSN added last year, there's no excuse not to show the game online. I wasn't around to see the game tonight, but if the Ticat website was going to show it, maybe we'll get a Toronto feed coming out.
  22. Do they give you some certain amount of articles to read right off of there before they ask you to make an account? Or is it just because I'm in the USA or something? Because I just read that whole article and the site didn't say nothin about makin an account. That being said, I did notice that trend that Doug pointed out about our head coaches seeming to find the Grey Cup in year 2 of their tenure here. My hope is that we don't repeat that Berry/Lapolice episode because it seemed like there we had too many short-term success stints that ended up mortgaging the team's future and bringing us to where we were at the end of 2013. Reasonably, I think there should be expectations to exceed 7-11, but I just hope it's not too quickly jumped to a point where if the first half of 2016 was disappointing, we wouldn't go throwing in the towel on these coaches.
  23. Let's also not forget he missed almost all the 2nd half of last year, and Sunseri and Doege are garbage and that D wasn't gonna look so good bein on the field all the time. Honestly I don't know what to expect of Hurl, I think it's gonna be up to an effective D-line in front of him to get better production out of him.
