Okay, nvm I'll take back what I said about starting Volny for now But why did we not give Cotton another carry after he ripped that big yardage off.
-
Brohm has done a great job, and I love it, but I still say you don't open up the can of worms by switching QBs permanently. I also don't understand how our O-line is just so awful last week and can go to ... well not great but at least semi-decent at blocking. I'm a little upset though that Bellefeuille isn't pounding the rock enough with Cotton.

Start Carl Volny!!!!!!

They also have the best RBs, just take a look at Tyrell Sutton and he is an instant upgrade over what we got. He not only runs with authority and runs straight downhill and makes people miss, he also picks up blitzers on Crompton's blindside giving him that extra second to throw. We have not had a RB like that in a while.

O'Shea take note, you can challenge PI when your D is called for it.

Quiet thread so far. I gotta say though, the irony continues to amaze me that a head coach (Tom Higgins) goes from being on borrowed time after his last loss against us, to now being the god of Montreal. So now with a win here, it's them vs the Tiger Cats for 1st in the East. Just unreal.

Just wondering why won't you answer where you live in the US? I'm just curious. Everyone knows I live in Calgary as does 17. We won't come down in hordes trying to find you. North Carolina

Well, did beating Chamblin and the then to be Grey Cup champs save Burke?
-
Me personally, I wouldn't even offer him that if I'm a GM
-
That's just bad, no sense of urgency at all on that Redblack team. 3rd and short too and Campbell is punting it away when there's still a chance to win. If I'm a Redblack fan, I am calling him worse than Tim Burke. That is just bad.
-
15-6 Funny how Ottawa keeps getting into these scores nearly every game. I just don't see how Rick Campbell's job can be safe if they don't score a TD tonight, same old same old, I still don't like Burris, but this HC or wannabe HC is a much bigger cancer plaguing the Redblacks

Btw, I found out this game is on ESPN2 for anyone in the states who doesn't have TSN but has this channel.

Well, to be fair, I suspect with hockey season in full blower mode, a lot of Canadians will be tuned in to watch the Canucks and Oilers tonight, or the Predators at the Jets. Me, I don't follow hockey hardly, just not that big around where I live. Once both the Grey Cup and Super Bowl ends, NCAA Softball and Baseball start up for me, so those are my spring fillers till next CFL season comes around, but yeah, I agree, the CFL season only lasts so long.

But if he has a great game and the Bombers win, does he start again next week, even if Willy is healthy? If Willy is healthy? No. I hope Brohm goes out there tomorrow and gets a much needed win for us, but right now we cannot afford a can of worms being opened up at the QB position. We gotta keep the team in harmony and we've already seen enough upheaval now with the Grigsby situation. Different player, but you gotta keep the team together by stating that Willy is your man 100%, no matter what the outcome of this next game with Brohm is. I think a better way of approaching this, is that if Brohm in his start or in his other limited backup play goes out and does well, maybe you look at trading him to another team for an O-lineman or 2 in the offseason, or use him to make a move elsewhere.
-
No disrespect to Brohm, I love having a backup QB who can come in and play, but at this point I think as a HC you completely throw out any notion of a QB controversy. Willy has been suffering enough from taking those hits in the pocket and to bring this up would severely damage his confidence. Sorry, but if I'm a HC, I'm saying no to this. Now, in the spring training camp and as next season came along, if I saw Brohm's game pick up tremendously, maybe I'd consider a competition next year, but absolutely not right now.

Funny thing is, as bad as this game could be, there definitely is laughers you can baste sometimes at opposing head coaches and their pitfalls. For me it's a win-win situation. If the TiCats lose, Kent Austin is gonna blow his marbles and completely lose his head in his press conference and give fans stuff to laugh at. If Ottawa loses, Rick Campbell's rope is gonna get about 50 feet shorter. Obviously, I don't get CIS in the states, but our NCAA football matches tonight with Fresno St v Boise St and Houston vs Temple are both snoozers. Think I'll take this game over those.
-
Does the embarrassment continue for Desjsardins tonight? I say yes. The Hank watch is temporarily postponed, but if he keeps going to the sideline like I've seen him do, I'm gonna bag on Rick Campbell for putting Danny O'Brien in. That is a dumb move by a dumb man (Campbell). Why even bring on Rick Campbell anyway? Desjardins could've waved all that money he put in Hank's contract and waved it at Dave Dickenson to come head coach. Heck even Kavis Reed coulda made the RBs competitive.

My guess is he's probably going to hang it up now. I don't know what the Riders think of him. Obviously him being put in a situation early this year where the Als offense was being run by inexperienced coordinators and position coaches affected a lot of what was going on with him, but when you now have an organization making it clear that the experiment is over, he's seen as damaged goods by other teams who are more reluctant to give him a fair shake, and his margin for error goes way down. At his age though, and after the nomadic journey through the NFL, UFL, and now here, he's probably gonna return to his family in the states and call it a career with football.

Yet another one of the Sun's unprofessionalism in article writing. I'm not letting these awful authors off the hook for opinion pieces. Organizational moves like this are not supposed to be columns. If you're gonna write a newspaper article about it, get the ****in facts. You pull that kind of crap off at an organization like the Chicago Tribune or the LA Times in regards to one of their local sports teams, and you lose your job. Same thing should happen here.
-
Okay, not sure if that's legal or not, but since you can only play 5 linemen, maybe 6 if one of them reports as a TE, but I think he has to go out as a receiver in that case, not sure, but at least use a 3 RB formation I say and have them all block. 3 receivers going downfield should be enough to find a mid range target. Bottom line though, this O-line needs help and I'm with Doug Brown calling for max protection on the QB.
-
Pfft like we need a QB. Besides, he can't block, that I know.
-
What do you mean? Suber isn't even here anymore.

My guess is he's gonna once again attempt to go back to the NFL. Didn't land a starter job last time, but I would bet he's gonna try out for somebody's practice squad who's currently short on RBs. I was no Grigsby fan because of his constant hesitation when going through the holes. I had a bad feeling when I was hearing about his tweets, and at an already bad day, regardless of what he meant out of them, that was kind of like pouring salt on the already open wounds the team had. Normally I'd quickly call out fans for being quick to jump on a RB for expressing his feelings, because in some ways I say if you're gonna do it, then yeah do it, but right now this team has no time or place for people with inflated egos, and nor should they. In some ways I do feel sympathetic towards Grigs, but here's the problem: just because you get benched or demoted at one time, doesn't mean you're not gonna get your chance to earn it back again, and I know he certainly would've. What he should've realized is, okay I got benched because obviously I'm just not cutting it like the coaches expected me too, now what I gotta do is just get to work, get ready for the next time I'm carrying the ball, and run with anger and prove to them on this field why I should be the number 1 guy. MOS never said Cotton was gonna be the number 1 RB indefinitely with no shot for Grigs again, he just felt he needed a change for now for Cotton to get his chance back and rightfully so. But now you guys see why I've been vocal about getting Carl Volny more carries in this offense? Here's a guy who comes to practice every day and puts in all the work and more that you could ask of him and never complains that he doesn't get carries, and I mean NEVER. He also busts his butt off every time on special teams and never quits. You want a guy who's got a professional and humble attitude on this team at RB? Give this guy his chance and let him carry that rock. He runs with authority and drags defenders with him. Mike O'Shea, please let this humble working player get his carries.

Is it necessary to hire coordinators with CFL experience?
USABomberfan replied to B-F-F-C's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Gary Crowton's problem was on multiple fronts, but one of the biggest was that he was so stubborn with his play calling that he did not make changes even when consultants or those around him suggested things. The other factor is that Lapolice was calling the plays when he first showed up in town, but after he got fired, Crowton had to pick up that playbook and figure things out on his own, and Burke of course could offer no input for him. Not to mention Mack was running the team aground to boot. I think our fanbase as a whole is opposed to any idea of OCs coming in fresh off the American gridirons, but Marc Trestman fit that bell and he did quite well, so yes it can and has worked. I think the biggest factor is whether or not the players buy into the scheme, and no matter what anyone says contrary to this, you absolutely have to have an o-line, or WR and RB blocking schemes going and going full throttle to make your playbook work, and this is what we're lacking on all fronts. Every OC though is going to be judged by what they are doing now, and that goes for the old dinosaurs as well as the young bucks. Would I be happy if Cortez came here? Absolutely, but just for the record though, he's not leaving SSK just because those dumb fans on Riderfans yesterday called for him to go, their board of directors has a long history of telling their fans to suck it and shut up. But other OC's out there that are great are not going to be unemployed or out there at the moment. Other OCs that come from below the border might be from lower tier NCAA football schools, but not FBS, probably FCS or Division II schools or lower, probably not the best choices for us. We'll see though.
