IC Khari Posted October 25, 2016 Report Posted October 25, 2016 (edited) I hate to say it but this past weekend reminded me of how much the Jets are loveable losers (maybe not to the degree of the Cubs but in terms of rewarding the fan loyalty with success). The city is in love with the team but it never rewarded us for that passion. It's fitting the new team uses the slogan "fueled by passion" because it will always have fans who unconditionally love the Jets (whatever incarnation). Whether that will be rewarded with success remains to be seen. Edited October 25, 2016 by IC Khari

Whether that will be rewarded with success remains to be seen. It took 10 years for the shine to come off the Wild when they went back to Minnesota and the team stopped selling out. The Jets 1.0 were never the draw they are now. If the team continues to wallow in mediocrity for the next 4 - 5 years, the honeymoon will be over.
The Unknown Poster Posted October 25, 2016 Report Posted October 25, 2016 With the way the Jets have their waiting list set up and the percentage at which season tickets sell, it would be disastrous for the Jets to not sell out. Now whether everyone shows up is another thing. But those tickets will be sold. There is already issues with it. Some people take great pleasure in pointing out when tickets are available on a Tuesday night to play Florida or whatever.

If this team continues to be nothing but a bubble / missing the playoff team for another 5 years, the sellouts will be gone, even with the current waiting list. Hopefully the current young guys turn into a formidable core and we never see that to find out.

But people showing up would be the issue.

The percentage of season ticket renewals for pro sports is such that even if it took a "huge" dive, the waiting list more than makes up for it. If every single season ticker holder decided not to renew (which is statistically and historically impossible) and most of the waiting list averaged two tickets, that would still more than fill the MTSC. Plus the waiting list is capped and more people want to be on it. The staggered renewal period also helps. The way the Jets did initial season tickets was brilliant and they wont have to worry for a long long time.
Jimmy Pop Posted October 25, 2016 Report Posted October 25, 2016 I figure there's a healthy amount of season accounts that are paid for by businesses, plus a bunch more that have been further split amongst a group. Both of these scenarios affect the "butts in the seats" total every game. I have a hard time seeing (major) attendance issues anytime soon. A few empty seats on a Tues night against FLA is one thing, many unsold tickets is a different concern. And we're still at the point where all unsold tickets are the daily allotment the team's required to hold until gamedays. If anything I think this just requires TNSE to be a bit more creative and proactive when it comes to selling single game tickets, as well as mini-packs - which I believe they're doing this year for the first time. If 2 people out of 730,000 are any indication - my season partner and I have no intention of giving up our seats. Even with the on ice record. And even though we're both 20-somethings who should probably be saving for the future!! The Unknown Poster 1

It was an OT goal in game 4 of a first round series and the Jets ended up losing that series anyway, and somehow that's the "most important goal" in Jets history. And here are the Jets sitting beside a team that won 5 Stanley Cups. They scored important goals too, ones that actually won Cups, while our team hardly ever got by the first round. I realize that they had to play Edmonton every year but yeesh...loveable losers for sure.

Van and Ott? 2 teams just as lousy, arguably with a lot less in the cupboard too - and oh yeah, they've won diddly just like us. At the HC I ran into a couple Oiler clad gents around my age. My go-to is always, "so, you boys in from out of town, or just traders?!". Well these guys were good dudes who happened to have flown in for the weekend. Props! It was pretty funny to hear these guys talk about how much they like our team and city and how they root for Wpg as their #2. I told them that this meant Wpg wasn't truly "back" in the league yet because Edm still likes us, Cgy still likes us etc. We shared some good stories over a beer or two, shared some hatred of the Leafs and some self-deprecating with our own teams. Then of course I was reminded just how lucky these dudes were. They caught the tail end of the Esks dynasty growing up. They had the Oilers Cups during their formative years their teens. Now they've got the most dynamic player in hockey and a fancy new home. Urrrrrgh...how's their baseball team doing, again? Edited October 25, 2016 by Jimmy Pop don't know what formative means, evidently.
kelownabomberfan Posted October 26, 2016 Report Posted October 26, 2016 I still remember being at a Canucks game and some Canuck fan was chirping an Oiler fan. It didn't last long as the Oiler fan just had to say "and how many Cups have you guys won in 45 years? You guys are the 45 year old virgins!" HAAAA HAA HAA That shut up the Canuck clown pretty fast. Vancouver fans - biggest bandwagon jumpers in pro sports. Jimmy Pop 1

One of my all time favourite moments was during the 2010 playoffs when the Hawks were in Vancouver, and as CBC comes back from commercial, they show the most stereotypical Canucks "fan" being escorted out by security after getting into a verbal altercation with Ben Eager. It was just one of the best things I've ever seen. Ridiculous wanna be fans over there...
Jimmy Pop Posted October 26, 2016 Report Posted October 26, 2016 Semi-unrelated.... But I've got a wackload of Air Miles and am in desperate need of a mid-Wpg winter flight out this prairie town. I'm not solely focusing it on a Jets road game, but think it would be fun. (Jets @ Vegas Whatchamicultis is top of the list for 2018). Do I do the 3rd week of the December - Jets are in town 20th and 22nd. End December travel though....urgh. Or.... Early Feb. Jets @ AVALANCE. Afternoon of Feb.4. Average temps in Colorado that time of year are highs of 8 Celsius and lows of 0. Practically spring time in Wpg.
