Ducky Posted October 21, 2016 Report Posted October 21, 2016 Neither is Staf and Staf has no future with the club...

Go make some imaginary line combos for the millionth time because I think slotting 12 names into 12 spots is just about as far as your hockey knowledge goes. Coming from somebody tbat thinks Myers is the 2nd coming of Bobby Orr...

Stafford is a proven 20 goal scorer in the nhl throughout his career. He has no future? Probably not but Armia might not either. It's likely armias future is either 1. Bottom 6 pk/defensive specialist or 2. Vegas. I like Armia... he shows flashes of brilliance at times but at this point.... he's not exactly putting up points. You know who else showed flashes at times? Burmi and I think we all agree he shouldn't be in the top 6 so why should Armia. Is it cuz Stafford isn't putting up goals? If so Armia isn't either... neither is buff for that matter. It's 4 games in. Lay off the stafford hate and jumping off bridges after 4 games. It's a long season. 78 games to go. Lots of time here. Stafford is a proven top 6 player... Armia is not. That's the bottom line right now. Edited October 21, 2016 by Goalie Atomic 1
Ducky Posted October 21, 2016 Report Posted October 21, 2016 (edited) You change your opinion of him daily I guess...i have been saying trade him for months now...jumping off bridges? If he were half as smart defensively as Armia, I wouldn't ***** about him. 20 goals 4 out of 10 seasons is a proven 20 goal scorer? Edited October 21, 2016 by Ducky

Ducky Posted October 21, 2016 Report Posted October 21, 2016 If you are in the proper position in the D zone, you don't have to work so hard. You and Staf wouldn't know about that though.

Are you honestly this stupid or are you just being obnoxious for the hell of it? Ducky explains hockey to us all from behind his keyboard Edited October 21, 2016 by Atomic bb.king 1
Ducky Posted October 21, 2016 Report Posted October 21, 2016 (edited) I know enough to know that Stafford isn't is smart defensively as Armia is. If you can't see that that's your problem and it doesn't surprise me. Hint...look where Armia is when the other team has the puck in his zone....now look where Stafford is, if he is back in the zone yet. Edited October 21, 2016 by Ducky

He only had two goals in nearly 100 games for us, but holy crap did he work hard. Atomic 1
sweep the leg Posted October 21, 2016 Report Posted October 21, 2016 Armia hasn't scored much at any level of hockey. Why would he start now that he's in the NHL? I think his ceiling is a solid 3rd liner who kills penalties. Nothing wrong with that. @Ducky...yes, if you have four 20 goal seasons in the NHL, you are a proven 20 goal scorer. Goalie and Atomic 2
Goalie Posted October 21, 2016 Report Posted October 21, 2016 Yup. Armia is fine as a 3rd line winger who can PK. But and like I said I like him... he's a good player... but until he proves he can put up points.... he's really just a defensive specialist really. And that's fine. You need guys like that on your 3rd line aka checking line. Perhaps he does show he can put up points but until he does... he's bottom 6. I personally don't think Stafford is the answer either buy at this point... he's proven way more than Armia has. Armia was drafted the same year as Scheif... a few picks later actually... it's not like he's some rookie like Connor or Laine... he's almost at that point where it's make or break time for him.
Ducky Posted October 21, 2016 Report Posted October 21, 2016 your opinion, not mine....he has more seasons under 20 than over. I honestly expected a lot more from Stafford as this is the last year of his contract and he is 31 this month. A bit of a difference between 7th overall and 16th....most drafts anyway.
Ducky Posted October 21, 2016 Report Posted October 21, 2016 Armia did produce when played with offfensive minded people last season and this pre-season.
Goalie Posted October 21, 2016 Report Posted October 21, 2016 (edited) Armia has a career 4 goals and 6 assists for 10 points in 47 career games. That's not exactly producing. Stafford? His worst season... he played 46 games and had 6 goals and 12 assists for 18 points. Stafford worst season is better than Armias career But it's a silly comparison here... Armia shouldn't be in the top 6... maybe stafford shouldn't be either tho so I don't get the comparison exactly. Why Armia? Why not a guy like Dano instead? Edited October 21, 2016 by Goalie Atomic 1
Ducky Posted October 21, 2016 Report Posted October 21, 2016 47 games and already better at D than Stafford....what does that tell you? Laine is better and Ehlers is even better at D. What happened last year when Maurice wanted Stafford to be more of a checker???? lol I would even argue that Tanev and Lowry are better at D than Staf is too. I know he is p robably here until the TD but I don't agree with it.
Floyd Posted October 21, 2016 Report Posted October 21, 2016 4 games in... ahem. That being said, I still would like to see Laine-MP-Armia - its hard to judge Armia because he's been in a defensive role since day one with the Jets. He's good at it, prob just needs confidence back. But hey Stuart and Thorburn are in the pressbox! Atomic 1

If you read my earlier posts, you would see that i mentioned Dano;s development being delayed by Staf being here too. I am done with the debate...Staf sucks is all I know and Dano, Armia and Ehlers are all better.
Goalie Posted October 21, 2016 Report Posted October 21, 2016 Lol. OK. They might be better than Stafford. But maybe talk to Maurice and Chevy cuz those are the guys that make the call. I get why Stafford is top 6. He scores goals... he doesn't suck...but he's not good in the D zone so you can't put him on a checking line. Has he struggled? For sure but so far a few guys have... and right now 4 games in you gotta give these guys time... long ass season. If stafford still struggling in a month or 2... perhaps it's time for the kids but.. it's not that time yet. It's not like taking stafford out of the top 6 magically solves all our problems.

Regardless of what one may think of him, some teams would welcome Stafford into their lineup. This makes him an ideal candidate to include in Trouba's trade package to get what we need. I just don't think we are going to see a one for one trade with Trouba.

Ducky Posted October 21, 2016 Report Posted October 21, 2016 If u trade Staf with Trouba, it has to be to a team that is comfortable taking on Staf's 4.35m and signing Trouba to over 5m per year. Not many teams can handle that.

Not many teams can handle that. Very good point about the salary hit on Stafford. Obviously, the Jets would have to take something back. Maybe an established LHD with an expiring (or near expiring contract). Also, that makes Staf harder to move, even at the TD.

UFA so you don't have to protect him with maybe $1.5 mill cap hit? Chevy will get something for him. Prob 2nd rounder. Goalie 1
Goalie Posted October 21, 2016 Report Posted October 21, 2016 I think a guy like Petan or Lowry or someone along those lines, heck, even Armia is more likely to be part of a Trouba trade package than Stafford. Stafford will more than likely be dealt at the deadline for a 2nd or at worst 3rd round pick.... maybe both... maybe a 2nd and 4th.. who knows. Doesn't even have to be a pick in the 2017 draft, could be 2018... whatever. He's more than likely gone at the deadline or just before it. Maybe not tho and the Jets just let him walk for free at the end of the season, so be it either way. @Ducky Yeah that's your opinion, that's great... this is mine. Atomics is Atomics. Frostys is Frostys, Floyds is Floyds... you can have an opinion, just like we all do but doesn't mean anyone has to agree with it, just like people don't have to agree with mine or anyone elses. You seem to get a little to worked up when someone disagrees with you, It's a message board man, none of us have any actual say in what actually happens.
