Last time Drew Tate had any meaningful reps he blamed Dave Dickenson for why he didn't play well.  He threw 0 TDs and 2 INTs last year.  He's a well-known headcase.  I don't see the appeal.  Maybe a few years ago, sure.

Weird QB market.  Nichols for a 7th.  Tate for a 5th.  Adams for a 1st.  Willy for a 1st, 3rd and an all-star DB.

Nichols is the best of the bunch currently, yet commanded the least in return.  Was also the only one who was a pending FA.

Hard value trades if a consistent rate can't be established.

Who was the luckiest QB in the CFL last season? Rakeem Cato, of course.

QBs by % of interceptable passes that WERE picked off #Details

- courtesy of Derek Taylor

First things first, love the analysis Derek Taylor is doing.  Not sure how he gets his numbers, if he has a single source, if he's going over the tape from every game played last year or teams are providing him with this, but no matter.  It's great.

Second, using those numbers at face value (which oddly enough weren't always whole numbers when the math was done, maybe some borderline passes were counted as half interceptable?) and calculating through, this would be the 2016 percentage of interceptable balls per total passes thrown:

Cato - 7.7%

Masoli - 5.4%

Burris - 4.9%

Ray - 4.5%

Jennings - 4.3%

Willy - 4.2%

Glenn - 4.1%

Nichols - 3.6%

Durant - 3.4%

Collaros - 3.2%

Mitchell - 2.5%

Reilly - 2.2%

Harris - 2.1%

Apologies for the lack of fancy colours and formatting.

So Cato is both the luckiest and the worst.

Name recognition always will have sway.

It's been so long since he played well in a game it's hard to assess if he's still capable.

He's bringing his existing contract over to Ottawa, so this feels like Calgary freeing up some cap space as much as Ottawa getting insurance.

Tate is far from the 'biggest' signing...  not even in the top 15...

Its a nice insurance signing but I really think Brock Jensen is their true #2

He's not. Is he even signed? Tate was told he's number 2 coming in to camp.

News to me if he's not on their roster...

Tate is their #2 the same way Kevin Glenn was our #2...  if Jensen shows ANYTHING in practice, he'll get a shot before Tate.

...and avoiding a $40k roster bonus that was due next week...

It doesn't seem very smart to air your grievances to the press immediately following a loss, but it's a lot more interesting than the usual "we just need to go out there and execute" canned response

would be interesting if he takes over in the big smoke. Got a feeling his first order of business would be calling up Reed and inquiring about Adams, and offer the als Toronto's 2018 1st lol

Quick, Dan Lefevour for the Argos 2018 1st.

From Madani:

"Best story I've heard from Argos GM search: a candidate was asked if he'd consider Rex Ryan to be coach! REX! Just imagine the bike rides... https://t.co/HwPigJXX6y"

Well, Rogers did want to buy the Bills. This would be Toronto's consolation prize. Things would be interesting if Rex Ryan was Head Coach.
