Ex-DOJ Official: Barr Twisted My Words to Help Dismiss Flynn Case
SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT

Mary McCord, former acting assistant attorney general for national security, has accused Attorney General Bill Barr of twisting her words to help dismiss the case against former national security adviser Michael Flynn. In a skewering op-ed for The New York Times, McCord takes issue with her repeated namecheck in the Justice Department's motion to dismiss the criminal charges against Flynn, who pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russia’s ambassador to the United States.

Given the way Barr distorted and misrepresented the Mueller Report, Trump certainly knew what he was doing when he hired this guy - a unethical flunky..... to be the highest legal official in the land.  His current "job" is to provide cover for Donald Trump

Is Trump going virus-truther? Of course — keeping the numbers down is all he's ever cared about

On Sunday Trump spent the entire day tweeting and retweeting like a lunatic, much of the time about the leftovers of the Russia investigation, including the Michael Flynn case and numerous threats that Obama himself was in the crosshairs of the "investigation of the investigation," which Trump excitedly started calling "OBAMAGATE." Apparently he finally heard about that phone call.

Trump to claim ‘absolute immunity’ from subpoenas in Supreme Court appeal: ‘It would literally put the president above the law’

From Democrat-led committees in the U.S. House of Representatives to New York State Attorney General Letitia James and Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance, President Donald Trump has been the subject of countless investigations. But this week, ABC News’ Devin Dwyer reports, attorneys for the president are asking the U.S. Supreme Court to give him immunity from investigations by Congress or local prosecutors into his activities as a private citizen.

This week, Dwyer notes, justices for the High Court will “explore Trump’s claim that he cannot be subjected to subpoenas or any criminal investigative process, by virtue of the demands of the presidency.”

Its extra hilarious with this President since he spends half his day laying in bed rage tweeting, and the other half playing golf.  No time for investigations!

I see it as precarious. If the Supreme Court, which is stacked with alt-right judges rules in favour of this proposition (and it just might), this essentially annuls the US constitution. Trump could order the imprisonment or even  execution of any and all opposition and rule by fiat, free of all restraint. He could cancel elections, dismiss the Congress and Senate and become a tyrant.

People don't appreciate the gravity of what is happening down there. The Republican party has been chipping away at the rule of law, they are turning into a dictatorship right before our eyes and people just seem to think "Oh well, election in November"

They really dont.  The alt right is totally fine with a dictator and their rights being eroded as long as its THEIR dictator.  The left is suitably outraged but people really need to see how bad this can be.  They think Hitler cant happen here but its not like he seized power one day...it was a slow build.  THe chess pieces are being moved into position to set the Presidency up as a near dictatorship.  In this case, sure you still have the DOJ and the SCOTUS but they are being hijacked to serve this President.    If Trump wins...it could get very very dark.  If he loses, there will still be a serious power struggle but its the only hope to save America.

Its why I argue with the right leaning people here.  You're a real "right" person if you support this President and what he's doing.  This is what the GOP was meant to stand for.  They're just so weak and egocentric and likely, many of them compromised.  Its scary, really.

Ant they've been rigging the election for ages. It's a second world country with a good credit score.

The Democrats, no matter how stern they talk ( Jerry Nadler is a prime example here), no matter how well they articulate the issue and no matter how they pound their hands on tables, they are just so weak and ineffectual in keeping this administration in check. Yes we knew the Republicans had control of the Senate from the get go but even knowing that no one would have predicted how grossly powerless the Democrats are.

I think they've been okay but I do think they need better messaging.  Trump is such an angry simpleton that his rhetoric plays to the masses really well and media eats it up.  Even guys like Mitch and Graham too.  Dems need very simple, aggressive (but not angry) talking points that can get a lot of press in each news cycle.  Trump is easy to play.  He will respond with anger and stupidity and that chips away at his approvals.  Look at what happened here....his approvals spiked with COVID because people rally behind leaders. It took him no time at all to piss that all away.

To date, continued bad press that require little effort on the journalists part because all of this is happening in plain sight, his constant insane bizarre in some cases illegal tweets, mountains of ongoing factual evidence to support his house impeachment and his dwindling poll numbers have had no actual impact in keeping this administration in check. None. A lot of us across the world are yelling at clouds with no effect. Frustrating, suffocating. Then comes along this crappy plague turning the world on its head. As I read somewhere, the world is like a ball with too much air building up in it. We need let some air out real soon.

Nearly 2000 former DOJ officials sign letter calling on Barr to resign over his ‘assaults on the rule of law’

The former officials also are urging the House Judiciary Committee to “demand that [Barr] answer for his abuses of power. We also call upon Congress to formally censure Attorney General Barr for his repeated assaults on the rule of law in doing the President’s personal bidding rather than acting in the public interest. Our democracy depends on a Department of Justice that acts as an independent arbiter of equal justice, not as an arm of the president’s political apparatus.”

Except their factual reporting is high, so it isn't fake news. Try again before cherry-picking from a site that's shot down basically any and every source you've ever posted on here.

As long as the same standard of factual reporting is given to all sources going forward, then I am okay with that.

Trump officials ignored company’s offer to make 7 million N95 masks per month in early days of pandemic: ‘Criminal negligence’

Reality has a left bias.

That's really the problem in the States. Republicans and things such as Fox News have dragged the conversation so far into right field anything that isn't out there right wing nonsense has a "left" bias.

besides, things such as reports of people calling for Barr to resign are simply facts and don't need to worry about bias. Now if there's a bit on "what this means" then that is susceptible to bias, but factual reporting without an editorial attached to it then no need to worry if the facts are sourced correctly.

Federal prosecutor who resigned in protest pens a blistering denunciation of Bill Barr’s DOJ
Written by Alex Henderson May 11, 2020
When Attorney General Bill Barr intervened in the criminal case against long-time Trump ally Roger Stone in February, Jonathan Kravis was so appalled that he resigned from the U.S. Department of Justice — where he had spent a decade as a federal prosecutor. And now, Kravis is appalled by developments in another criminal case involving a Trump ally: former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.

On Thursday, May 7, the DOJ moved to drop the case against Flynn — who had pled guilty to lying to the FBI about his communications with former Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak in December 2016. Kravis explains why he finds this development so troubling in an op-ed for the Washington Post.
