Fatty Liver Posted June 28, 2023 Report Posted June 28, 2023 (edited) I'm not sure how I stumbled upon the following article, but jumping Jehoshaphat it's disturbing, when normal becomes disturbing, what does that say about normal? https://infotel.ca/newsitem/in-hotbed-of-firearm-freedom-a-hamburger-comes-with-a-side-of-handgun/it15295 What's new in America, though, is a political shift on guns. Even for a country renowned for its world-leading gun-ownership rates, these are particularly triumphant times for gun-rights enthusiasts. Exactly two years ago, the country was debating the possibility of national gun-control measures following the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dec. 12, 2014. But a new poll illustrates the implausibility of that now. For the first time in more than two decades of Pew Research surveys, the organization announced this week that it found more support for gun rights than for gun control. A record 52 per cent called it more important to protect the right of Americans to own guns compared to 46 per cent who called gun control more important — adding public opinion to a gun-rights arsenal that already includes a friendly Supreme Court and an ever-friendlier Republican-dominated Congress. Shares in gun companies nearly doubled after Sandy Hook, before the recent stock-market dip. Gun sales appear up, with background checks through the FBI system doubling since the program was created in 1999. In the hope of making Texas the 45th open-carry state, advocates recently took to demonstrating with assault rifles in stores like Target. The gun battle is lost when 45 out of 50 states approve open-carry laws. The justices ruled in favour of a group called Students for Fair Admissions, founded by anti-affirmative action activist Edward Blum, in its appeal of lower court rulings upholding programs used at the two prestigious schools to foster a diverse student population. The decision, powered by the court's conservative justices with the liberal justices in dissent, was 6-3 against the University of North Carolina and 6-2 against Harvard. Liberal Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson did not participate in the Harvard case. The affirmative action cases represented the latest major rulings powered by the Supreme Court's conservative majority. The court in June 2022 overturned the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision that had legalized abortion nationwide. The court also broadened gun rights in another landmark ruling. Tracker 1
Tracker Posted June 29, 2023 Report Posted June 29, 2023 3 INVESTORS IN TRUMP’S TRUTH SOCIAL DEAL ARRESTED FOR INSIDER TRADING CNN reported: According to the indictment, the three individuals together made more than $22 million in illegal profits by purchasing shares in Digital World Acquisition Corporation after secretly learning about the blank-check firm’s plan to buy Trump Media & Technology Group. The value of the securities they purchased went up sharply once the Trump deal was announced, prosecutors say. The defendants and individuals they tipped off then sold their securities for a significant profit, according to prosecutors. There is no evidence at this time that Trump had anything to do with insider trading. How the Truth Social deal with DWAC came under immediate investigative scrutiny by the federal government for being a potential scheme to bilk investors. Trump tried to outrun the SEC investigation by removing himself and his son Donald Trump Jr. from the Truth Social board. JCon 1

The simple truth is that his service pistol couldn't compete with an assault rifle. Just proves how stupid the armed guard idea is and he shouldn't have been the fall guy for lax gun laws and naively simplistic security policy. I don't blame him at all. Me either, he was probably being paid minimum wage for one of the few jobs he could get to support himself. To say he should feel obligated to lay down his life attempting to take out a psycho with a machine gun with little to no professional training is a bit silly. Just because you have a gun, doesn't make you a potential hero, more likely you'll end up just another victim. Wideleft 1
Tracker Posted June 30, 2023 Report Posted June 30, 2023 If you accept the premise that he should have done nothing, then every police officer, border guard, FBI agent and armed government employee has the right to flee if they believe they are out-gunned. There was a police brotherhood group who, at that time, said that they do not have to risk harm to themselves in order to enforce the law or protect others. Where do you draw the line?

Taking a defensive position is not doing nothing and he was neither a policeman, border guard or FBI agent. He was a resource officer with the title of Sheriff's Deputy. What delay is therefore acceptable if he was found guilty? Are future "resource officers" going to feel compelled to run into harm's way for fear of legal repercussions when a methodical approach would be better? And why are we even discussing his culpability when the problem really isn't the response of school resource officers. The NRA for one appreciates this diversion.

He was a police officer in every meaningful way. He was trained, armed, paid and sworn in as a peace officer. If you accept hiding as taking a defensive position, perhaps retreating several hundred yards would also be an acceptable position. I have several Winnipeg and RCMP officers in my extended family and all see what happened as cowardice. Officers are told repeatedly that they are expected to put themselves in harm's way as part of their job description. That may be different in the US where police are elected and apparently poorly trained, but a police officer who cowers while it is obvious that children are being killed is unworthy of being called such.

I guess next we should sue all the 9/11 first responders who called a mayday evacuation and got out before the towers collapsed, rather than continuing to climb up the stairs.

False equivalency. NEW DAMNING EVIDENCE SUGGESTS THAT TRUMP WAS RUNNING THE COUP PLOT The missing piece that even the 1/6 Committee was unable to find was direct evidence that Trump was running the coup plot, but a new report has Trump directing others to overturn the election. The Washington Post reported on Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election results in Arizona: After Trump’s call to Ducey, Trump directed Pence, a former governor who had known Ducey for years, to frequently check in with the governor for any progress on uncovering claims of voting improprieties, according to two people with knowledge of the effort. Pence was expected to report back his findings and was peppered with conspiracy theories from Trump and his team, the person said. Pence did not pressure Ducey, but told him to please call if he found anything because Trump was looking for evidence, according to those familiar with the calls. This isn’t Trump asking or making requests. The former president directed his then-vice president to pressure a sitting governor to overturn election results and then report back to him. Trump was more than the beneficiary of the plot. He was the person running it. Rudy Giuliani was the fake elector plot coordinator, but Donald Trump was the point man for the whole scheme. The story of the pressure campaign in Arizona puts Trump at the top of the plot. There are no other people that the former president can blame or set up to take the fall for him. Pence was directed to pressure an elected official to overturn the election and report back to Trump by Trump. It doesn’t get any more direct than that, and if the Washington Post story is correct, Trump should be facing charges for the attempted coup after the 2020 election.
Tracker Posted July 4, 2023 Report Posted July 4, 2023 'Woke ideology': DeSantis vows to kill four federal agencies including one that manages US nuclear weapons Florida’s Republican governor, Ron DeSantis, has declared he plans to eliminate several federal agencies if elected president, including the one that manages the U.S. Government’s nuclear weapons stockpile, is responsible for promoting worldwide nuclear safety, and reducing weapons of mass destruction. “Are you in favor of eliminating any agencies? I know conservatives in the past have talked about closing the Department of Education, would you do that?” DeSantis was asked by Fox News’ Martha McCallum on Wednesday. “So we would do Education, we would do Commerce, we’d do Energy, and we would do IRS,” said the Florida governor, naming the federal agencies he will close if elected to the White House. The Florida governor currently has similar agencies within his administration that he has not attempted to eliminate. The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) is part of the Dept. of Energy, which DeSantis says he will eliminate. It is “responsible for enhancing national security through the military application of nuclear science.” https://www.alternet.org/desantis-vows-kill-federal-agencies/ JCon 1

Tracker Posted July 6, 2023 Report Posted July 6, 2023 Trump Posted Obama's Purported Address, Prosecutors Say. An Armed Man Was Arrested There. WASHINGTON (AP) — Former President Donald Trump posted on his social media platform what he claimed was the home address of former President Barack Obama on the same day that a man with guns in his van was arrested near the property, federal prosecutors said Wednesday in revealing new details about the case. Taylor Taranto, 37, who prosecutors say participated in the Jan. 6, 2021 riot at the U.S. Capitol, kept two firearms and hundreds of rounds of ammunition inside a van he had driven cross-country and had been living in, according to a Justice Department motion that seeks to keep him behind bars. On the day of his June 29 arrest, prosecutors said, Taranto reposted a Truth Social post from Trump containing what Trump claimed was Obama’s home address. In a post on Telegram, Taranto wrote: “We got these losers surrounded! See you in hell, Podesta’s and Obama’s.” That’s a reference to John Podesta, the former chair of Hillary Clinton’s 2016 Democratic presidential campaign. Taranto also told followers on his YouTube live stream that he was looking to get a “good angle on a shot,” prosecutors said.
