There is nothing even remotely beautiful about grown adults who have been tasked to lead nations deflecting and employing whataboutism. That garbage is exactly why the political landscape is a wasteland right now and little to nothing gets accomplished.

For the first time, China has overtaken the United States in terms of the total number of science publications, according to statistics compiled by the US National Science Foundation (NSF).

The United States spent the most on research and development (R&D) — around US$500 billion in 2015, or 26% of the global total. China came in second, at roughly $400 billion. But US spending remained flat as a share of the country’s economy, whereas China has increased its R&D spending, proportionally, in recent years.

For instance, Trump is proposing huge cuts to renewable energy research.  Fortunately I have read that both parties, don't want to do this.

He's leading America backwards.

Trump spoke  to the press corps, for several minutes.   Talking about what a great guy Porter is, what a great job he did.     Trump did express some concern though - about how Porter would handle this situation, and stated his best wishes were with him, also hoped he would have a "great career"

NOTHING about the underlying (and very current) issue of abuse and the WH handing of this case,  and NOT ONE WORD about any of the 3 women involved.

One one level .....disgraceful.   On another.....pretty unsurprising and  typical.

Just as an aside, it is estimated that 40% of domestic abuse is against men, given the number of victims coming out, when is the other shoe going to drop? For every 6 female victims there should be 4 male victims and I don't believe the cases being reported by the media are bearing those numbers out.

Again if this was W or Obama the porter thing is a gigantic story and it could sink them. Certainly would take down the CoS. For Trump it’s just another day.

and let’s be honest. The reason he’s so defensive of Porter is because he simply cannot come out and support the accusers because he himself has so many allegations against him.

Imagine having to explain why the president keeps defending abusers.

In the midst of the metoo movement, in a thread about US politics, in a discussion about a top male white house aid resigning over domestic abuse allegations from women, you want to interject with "what about the men?"  Holy smokes man.  When Trump said he could shoot someone on 5th avenue and not lose a vote from his base, he sure was right.

Just wanted to update the thread.

Yeah but what about Hilary?  Or about all the male victims?  THAT'S what's important. lol

Jokes aside, let's be honest here.  The news is all tip toeing around reality.  They are covering this story and wondering why Sanders is gaslighting American's, why Trump wont speak about victims etc.  The truth is, its consciousness of guilt by Trump.

The police technique of interviewing potential suspects and asking them what they think should happen to whomever perpetrated the crime is appropriate here.  An innocent person generally would want a perpetrator punished while a guilty person doesnt want their words haunting them and tries to deflect or minimize it.  Trump has so many allegations against him that he simply cannot come down hard on the side of victims.  Those words would haunt him.  He's afraid it would lead to a revival of allegations or new allegations.

When he speaks about Porter, he's really speaking about himself: "Its so sad for him"  "He says he's innocent".

Every day is a new disgrace.   But I guess its the FBI's fault Porter didnt have security clearance.  You know else doesnt have security clearance?  Kushner and 30+ other White House staff.  If Trump wasn't President, he wouldnt have security clearance either.  And yet these guys like Porter had top secret material crossing their desks.

"Canada does not treat us right in terms of the farming and the crossing the borders," Trump said.

"We cannot continue to be taken advantage of by other countries."

Of course he makes no mention of the dirt cheap electricity, petroleum, and natural gas his country gets from Canada.

 Take it easy on Trump.

After all.....pretty hard for him to make a comment against racism, bigotry, xenophobia, or for that matter, wife-beating....... without alienating his base.

You've hit on something else here.  Sanders can come out and give all the "traditional" talking points because the base will say "they have to say that for the liberals but we know what they really think" because Trump doesnt say it.

Sanders is grotesque.
