Do you know who’s licking their chops biding their time right now as this all unfolds? The articulate intelligent wackjobs who are coming up right behind Trump thinking if dum dum Trump and his equally stupid enablers can almost pull this off with little to no real consequence felt, imagine what we can do with this broken system.

Are people really surprised that the trial will fail? Senate is still very much in contention and the US is very much split on party lines, and was long before Trump. That 5 republicans voted against their party is the biggest surprise here.

The Senate will not vote to impeach. Clear as day. You won't get 17 republicans voting for it.

Better luck in the courts (I hope). But if the cases hit the Supreme Court, that will be the interesting case. See if judges follow the law or their political affiliation (yeah, like that's an unanswered question).

Virginia "Trump in heels" candidate says Capitol attack was justified — because of COVID rules.  Amanda Chase says Capitol rioters were tired of being told "what we can and cannot do in the form of mandates"

Virginia's leading Republican gubernatorial candidate, Amanda Chase, has justified the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol as a response to public health mandates in place to limit the pandemic, according to a recently surfaced video clip. Chase said  the would-be insurrectionists who overran the Capitol while play-acting a ludicrous violent fantasy were actually concerned about "losing our Republic."

A reporter from the British channel SkyNews approached Chase, a state senator from central Virginia who has described herself as "Trump in heels," at the Jan. 18 Lobby Day Patriot Food Drive in Richmond, asking for "a word for the rest of the world" about the Capitol riots. "They're looking in on America and wondering what on earth is going on here," the reporter wondered.

Chase, who faces censure in the Virginia state legislature after referring to Capitol rioters as "patriots," said the attack was about "federal and state" mandates.

"America wants freedom. They are tired of an overreaching federal government and state government telling us what we can and cannot do in the form of mandates. I don't think that's representative of our republic and people," she explained. "What we're seeing is a level of frustration like we've never seen in America, and here in Virginia, because people are concerned that we are getting away from a representative republic and are headed towards socialism and communism, in which the government makes all these decisions for us."

The reporter asked Chase, who spoke at the Jan. 6 rally but left ahead of the riot, to clarify that she was referring to the attack itself: "Is that what was happening at the Capitol Building? Is that what it was all about?"

"Absolutely. Absolutely," Chase replied. "I think the big concern is that we're losing our republic. It's been around for 400 years. We the people want to make sure to preserve our republic." [Fact check: The United States was founded in 1776, making it 245 years old this July.]

Libs owned!

-On January 13, when House voted for impeachment, McConnell said Senate could not consider it *until* Trump had left office. -From Jan 20 onward, McConnell has said Senate should not consider it *because* Trump has left office.

This is beyond sad. Its inhumane, monstrous evil conduct. I hope she is prosecuted or at least sued. But, as usual, the GOP is making faint noises of protest.

Democrats better take the kid gloves off quickly, the Republicans are trying to rule like they are in power, they have none they lost the Senate and the Presidency along with the House back in '18, all the nut jobs need to be investigated, you can't bring guns to the floor of the house or dodge metal detectors, and most of all slap down Cruz and Hawley, try and play nice and they will run over you leaving you wondering how did this happen again.

'Something's coming': Trump supporter warns of the next attack

One of President Donald Trump's supporters met with VICE News reporter Michael Moynihan to reveal that the Jan. 6 attack isn't over.

The interview comes the same day as the Department of Homeland Security issued a bulletin that anti-government extremists are intent on domestic terrorism.

"Information suggests that some ideologically-motivated violent extremists with objections to the exercise of governmental authority and the presidential transition, as well as other perceived grievances fueled by false narratives, could continue to mobilize to incite or commit violence," the department said.

Sitting on a rock in the middle of the Arizona desert and lit only by the headlights of a car, the Trump supporter explained that he sees himself as a "patriot."

The soft-spoken man said that he believes a lot of conservatives were angry and needed an outlet, "and somebody gave them that outlet." He explained that most conservatives are pretty calm people, "I mean, they would just sit there, wave their flags, and go home angry."

He went on to dispute the characterization of the attack on the Capitol as a "coup" or "insurrection," and called media reports inaccurate.

"There was barely any violence," he said, despite police officers being beaten by rally-goers. "A lot of media is saying it was white supremacists. There was a decent mix. I'm not going to say it was peaceful."

Reporter at Marjorie Taylor Greene event gets thrown out and threatened by cops for trying to ask a question

On Thursday, WCRB reporter Meredith Aldis attended the Dalton town hall of freshman Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) — and was promptly threatened with arrest by Whitfield County deputies and thrown out of the premises when she tried to ask a question.

Before being ejected, Aldis reported that Greene railed against her chamber as the "House of Hypocrites," and vowed to press on with her doomed push to impeach President Joe Biden for vague and unspecified abuses of power.

Greene, a supporter of the QAnon conspiracy theory, has attracted nationwide outrage for posts endorsing the execution of prominent Democrats and posting a video of herself harassing school shooting survivor and activist David Hogg.

Rep. Jimmy Gomez (D-CA) has announced his intent filed a resolution seeking her expulsion from the House.

I'm starting to think that if one of the senators were killed on the January 6th attack it still wouldn't change the trajectory of the GOP. They have past the point of no return.

The GOP, to all intents and purposes, have become a cult. Everything to them is interpreted through a filter of grievance, racism and fear.

Jared Yates Sexton on Twitter nails it.

'Never, ever underestimate how willing the wealthy and powerful are to shamelessly shed their espoused principles in a moment’s notice when it means protecting their wealth and power'.

the wealthy and powerful do not in any way live by the same laws, or norms, as regular wage earners.

like the rich kid from stanford that got a sus sentence for rape, cause the judge was concerned about harming his prospects.

different world for them.

New Mexico Officials Taken Aback By Biden Assault On Oil And Gas
David Blackmon

[T]he reality is that [New Mexico’s Democratic Governor, Michelle Lujan Grisham] and her administration can strive to “diversify” the state’s energy portfolio all they want, but the state will still lose hundreds of millions of dollars every year should the Biden administration succeed in shutting down her state’s oil and gas business.

To be clear: Neither the state nor the federal government collects any royalties on solar installations or wind farms. There is no severance tax to be collected from those alternative forms of energy with which to fund the state’s schools or hospitals, or to sustain the free in-state college tuition program Lujan herself established in 2019 thanks to New Mexico’s new Permian/Delaware Basin windfall.

[…]

These are just some of the actual potential costs of the Biden assault on the New Mexico oil industry. They are the things that happen in the real world, as opposed to the fantasies pushed by many politicians.

[…]

Elections have consequences. For New Mexico, the consequences of the 2020 election are only now starting to be understood.

Of course key information from the article isn't included in what's just a feeble attempt to make NM look like a victim of the dreaded Democratic POTUS whose campaign promises included the very thing he wound up doing after taking office. None of this should come as a surprise to anyone who's paid attention since Biden won the nomination. And IIRC, Biden won 55% of the electorate back in November.

...Joe Biden’s day-one decision to impose a 60-day moratorium on all oil and gas-related leasing and permitting actions on federal lands. It is a decision that will have major ramifications on the state budgets of New Mexico and other Western states, especially if it is extended beyond its initial term and backed up by Biden’s promised ban on hydraulic fracturing on federal lands.

Some New Mexico officials are now trying to defend themselves by saying they didn’t anticipate the new President would issue such a ban, but such protests ring rather hollow given that they most assuredly did understand that Biden plans to move ahead with his fracking ban, which would for all intents and purposes have the same effect.

Good on the new administration for not wanting federal lands to be ruined; let these oil companies ruin Texas instead. It seems like nobody in the Lone Star State, at least within the ranks of the GOP, seems to give a **** about the future, anyway.

FWIW, David Blackmon is nothing more than an oil and gas cheerleader if his column history and bio info are any indication. See his most recent article: https://www.forbes.com/sites/davidblackmon/2021/01/28/biden-opens-new-fronts-in-his-war-on-us-oil-and-gas/?sh=2af2a4ea7d9b

In a matter of weeks, two hedge-fund legends -- Steve Cohen and Dan Sundheim -- have suffered bruising losses as amateur traders banded together to take on some of the world’s most sophisticated investors. In Cohen’s case, he and Ken Griffin ended up rushing to the aid of a third, Gabe Plotkin, whose firm was getting beaten down.

It's a pay-to-place article paid for by an industry lobbyist. It has zero value.
