The Unknown Poster Posted February 15, 2017 Report Posted February 15, 2017 The one "played youth over veteran" they could say is goaltending and again, its a red herring designed to deflect from the coaching. "Well if they had played Pavs all season instead of hanging the kid out to dry...". Except Pavs coming up proved he's the 3rd best out of 3 goalies the Jets have. So again, the decision to go with youth wasnt about taking a step back to develop...it was about playing the best players. Unless they argument also is that Wheeler, Toby, Buff, Perreault, Little & Thorburn are all negative contributors to leadership, then the "youth" argument doesnt hold water. Its an excuse to protect a lousy coach. "Helle is young" is an excuse to protect Wade Flaherty who has made every single goalie we have ever had WORSE when they get to the NHL. Habs through three goalie coaches while Price was developing to find the right fit. They didnt say "Price sucks, the coach is great". It was "Price is our guy, lets find the right coach to bring the most out of him." Anything short of cleaning house of Maurice, Huddy and Flaherty this off-season should put the target squarely on Chevy moving forward. bb1 1
Floyd Posted February 15, 2017 Report Posted February 15, 2017 The whole 'willing to play the youth thing' is so overblown... A. he doesn't have enough vets... half of the ones left here have lost a step and were still trotted out night after night until mid-December B. he overplayed Stafford until Stafford was so awful that Maurice was forced to put him on the 4th line... we don't remember Stafford being called in the shootout instead of Ehlers... or how many times Staff has been bumped up to first line C. Stuart got injured not benched D. Laine and Ehlers on 2nd power play unit...? E. If Trouba doesn't hold out and Myers doesn't get injured, Morrissey is third pairing for the next two years...
Goalie Posted February 15, 2017 Report Posted February 15, 2017 Stuart wasn't injured when he didn't play In the outdoor game

Stuart was injured in early November... before that he was on our third pairing and killing penalties

Maurice was asked about it and said it was a tough decision because they both have done so much for the Jets over the years. I don't disagree with what you are saying... I think there are some better examples to use tho. For example...chiarot getting more ice time now than Morrissey. Pavelec being recalled and praised when he sucked. The lack of accountability towards the Vets in general JCon 1

The lack of accountability towards the Vets in general Healthy scratch after he came back from his five or six games injured... anyway, we all saw him and Thorburn get way overplayed last season so not sure why the media is spinning this 'no other coach would play the youth' thing Chiarot/Morrissey is a good point... Maurice was forced to give Morrissey top minutes not the other way around... Morrissey still has never really been given a shot on the PK yet
bb1 Posted March 1, 2017 Author Report Posted March 1, 2017 (edited) Oh yeah Maurice throw Hellebuyck under the bus for brutal play from our d......how long do we blame the players for a poor passive defensive schemes...the points on the opposition have all day to shoot even on 5 on 5....wow ..and we are gonna reward this guy with an extension...hopefully this proves that the so called genius of Cheveldayoff is definitely in question... time to clean house all around maybe... Are you sure he's not saving him from Stuart and Chiarot? bb1 1
The Unknown Poster Posted March 1, 2017 Report Posted March 1, 2017 Is it possible the jets are playing the d exactly the way Huddy draws it up? Lol fire this man. Brandon Blue&Gold 1
Floyd Posted March 1, 2017 Report Posted March 1, 2017 Enstrom and Buff have no chemistry - never have... Chiarot can't play right side... so by third period, Morrissey is just playing it for him Postma is our only D generating shots This whole coaching staff needs to go. The Unknown Poster and Goalie 2
Goalie Posted March 1, 2017 Report Posted March 1, 2017 Stafford on pp1 who really just pass the puck around for a minute or so and do nothing. Thorburn on the PK. Coaching is just pathetic bb1 and Floyd 2
bb1 Posted March 1, 2017 Author Report Posted March 1, 2017 We are as bad defensely as we were starting the year.. no improvement...that rests with whom? Cheveldayoff your ass and fire this guy already....man we suck at home...??
Floyd Posted March 1, 2017 Report Posted March 1, 2017 Can you imagine this team without Laine and Trouba... omfg.
Goalie Posted March 1, 2017 Report Posted March 1, 2017 Chevy ain't going anywhere On paper a top 4 of Buff Morrissey Trouba Toby It should be better. D zone play is awful. Why not go Buff Morrissey Postma Toby Shelter Chiara and Stu It's just stupid roster decisions. Maurice has made them all year

Maurice has made them all year Yeah well unfortunately Buff hasn't been great this year at all and Enstrom was brutal this game (Maurice kept putting him out there though) and it hasn't been a great year for him ethier... Chevy should stick if he fires Maurice and hires a great coach (Hitchcock?) If not I hope he goes down in flames with Maurice...if he resigns Maurice to an extension after this year he better be ready to walk the plank with him if the ship goes down.
Goalie Posted March 1, 2017 Report Posted March 1, 2017 Should probably just realize that Chevy is safe for probably a very long time

Goalie Posted March 1, 2017 Report Posted March 1, 2017 I'm not convinced about Maurice just yet. That extension chatter seemed to have died down
The Unknown Poster Posted March 1, 2017 Report Posted March 1, 2017 You're right. On paper jets are way better. So chevy better sign trouba long term. And either make Maurice fire huddy and Flaherty or fire Maurice. Bonus points if chevy can unload Buff

Goalie Posted March 1, 2017 Report Posted March 1, 2017 Buff has a NMC, he's going nowhere. He's had a down year but it's mainly because Maurice and the Coaches have seriously over played him.. he needs to play 22-24 minutes a night, instead of 30. Do that and Buff is much better. JCon and Floyd 2
FrostyWinnipeg Posted March 1, 2017 Report Posted March 1, 2017 Put Buff on a playoff team and he's Conn Smyth,

JCon Posted March 1, 2017 Report Posted March 1, 2017 If they keep Maurice, he needs to clear out his assistants.
Floyd Posted March 1, 2017 Report Posted March 1, 2017 The Jets are a playoff team as soon as Maurice plays his fourth line and 3rd D pairing for more than 7 minutes a game... With Dano and Copp back, talent is there to roll four lines - moreso if Connor and Roslo make the move next year Enstrom and Myers are a pretty impressive 3rd pairing - but no way Maurice ever goes for that. He'll demote Trouba first.
