Not much for Vegas to choose from on Winnipeg's list.

Overall there are a lot of quality defencemen and some good goalies out there for Vegas but they're going to have a tough time building up their forwards.

Meanwhile their stockpile of prospects and picks should be absolutely massive.

Somewhat surprised that we chose to keep Copp over Dano. I guess Copps ability to play center was the difference.

Maybe that was by design though - having a quality young player available as bait so they don't take Enstrom.

Not that surprising when Dano was a healthy scratch by the end of the season and Copp wasn't

Third team to "give up" / trade / make Dano available in his short career

Makes you wonder why

Dano has very good advanced stats compared to players like Armia, Lowry, Copp. In fact it's noticeably better. I'm very okay with losing him, I just wonder why he can't seem to stick anywhere.

Some former Jets left unprotected include Bogosian, Stafford, Burmistrov, and Stempniak at first glance. Also Redmond, Oduya. Montoya, Setoguichi, Glass, Tangradi, Fehr, Budaj and Hainsey.

Also small guy and not center. And as mentioned finished season in dog house.

Half those guys are UFA's I think.

Canadian Press has a notable players available list. Here's some of my favorites...

ANA - Josh Manson — Defenceman <- luv this guy

Age: 25

Contract status: Restricted free agent in 2018

Cap hit: $825,000

His appeal: He's six foot three and 215 pounds, mobile for someone that size, and a punishing force physically. Manson has also posted stellar puck possession numbers in his short NHL tenure and makes next to nothing on the cap. The Ducks may have swung a deal with the Knights to keep hands off Manson for precisely those reasons.

WASH - Philipp Grubauer — Goaltender

Age: 25

Contract status: Restricted free agent

Cap hit: N/A

His appeal: Grubauer posted numbers this past season in Washington that were actually slightly better (in far fewer starts mind you) than teammate Braden Holtby, a Vezina trophy nominee. The German netminder, who needs a new contract, might just be the next Cam Talbot or Martin Jones, a backup ready to thrive with a starting opportunity.

ANA - Sami Vatanen — Defenceman

Age: 26

Contract status: Unrestricted free agent in 2021

Cap hit: $4.875 million

His appeal: Though he fell off offensively with a dip in luck this past year (24 points) and underlying numbers suggest he's slightly overexposed in a top pairing role, Vatanen remains an effective puck mover and transporter and helpful power play asset. He's also under control at a reasonable annual number for three more seasons.

FLA - Jonathan Marchessault — Winger

Age: 26

Contract status: Unrestricted free agent in 2018

Cap hit: $750,000

His appeal: Marchessault was among the NHL's best bargains last season, potting 30 goals and 51 points for Florida on the first year of a two-year deal worth $1.5 million. Another 30 goal-campaign is unlikely next year — his shooting percentage was high — but the Quebec native showed he could produce with opportunity and could be a helpful scoring option to Vegas.

NYI - Brock Nelson — Centre

Age: 25

Contract status: Restricted free agent in 2018

Cap hit: $2.5 million

His appeal: Nelson has scored at least 20 goals in each of the last three seasons — and a large bunch of them at even-strength. A former first round pick with good size (six foot three) and youth on his side, Nelson would offer the Knights depth down the middle and team control after next season.

They should be able to build a decent, deep team if they want.  Just from running a simulator on TSN the resulting team was deep in middle 6 forwards and 3/4 type D.  Obviously they are going to end up with a funny unbalanced roster.  Wonder if they might just pull a Redblacks on the 2nd Bomber pick and pick UFA's from some teams like the Leafs and Canucks who don't really have much in terms of useful NHL players to offer.  They could also do something stupid like pick 5 goalies and try to play chicken with other teams who need goaltending help.

I think the Jets will be sending a 2nd or 3rd round pick over to ensure Dano is the pick.

You think Vegas would pick Toby?

Probably not but why wouldn't they make the Jets think they might?

I can see the jets doing a swap of picks like Vegas 9th rounder for something higher on our side but not 2nd or 3rd for Toby.

The draft is 7 rounds.

Nope Vegas ain't going after a dman at Tobys age and salary....we just lose Dano...and draft and trade Toby? Who's gonna pay 5 million to trade for him? No Vegas is going after younger cheaper players...with the odd Marquee  player like Neal...imo. I just heard that Button has said because Toby only has 1 year left makes him attractive but Toby hasn't been healthy in 2 years I think it's a wash. Ethier way we lose Toby it's 5 mill off our books.

Toby also has a NMC. It becoomes active if vegas picks him. Reality is.. They could pick him.. He plays there 1 year and leaves via UFA. If they wanted to flip him... He would have to agree. He made it clear he wants to be here. They will take dano.
