I don't trust the NDP much, but she was doing good and keeping them from going full on loonies left. We need more politicians in this country like her. Mark H. and Tracker 2
blue_gold_84 Posted February 17, 2021 Report Posted February 17, 2021 https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/saskatoon/canadian-nationalist-party-leader-charged-1.5917062 Quote The RCMP have charged the leader of the Canadian Nationalist Party after posting an allegedly anti-Semitic video on YouTube. Police have charged 29-year-old Travis Patron of Redvers, Sask. with willful promotion of hate in connection to a video titled Beware the Parasitic Tribe. The video referred to "inside manipulators" who infiltrate media and the central bank. RCMP began investigating after the video was flagged by the Canadian Anti-Hate Network in June 2019. Since then, police have received four additional reports of new videos and flyers issued by Patron. Police are still investigating those reports. The Canadian Nationalist Party was founded in 2017 and received official party status in 2019. What an asshat. Mark F and Tracker 1 1

Brandon Posted March 1, 2021 Report Posted March 1, 2021 (edited) He is so far off on trying to compare America's issues with police brutality and racism with Canada it's annoying when people like him are trying to create something out of nothing. Yes don't come to Canada because we had residential schools and clearly the country hasn't changed in 50-100 years when that happened. Don't come to Canada because clearly this Country has not embraced a massive amount of different cultures and places like Winnipeg never celebrate these cultures with things like Folklorama. Police brutality in Canada is so bad that amazingly relations with the First Nations is at an all time high and the amount of Police related deaths is at an all time low, but no this uneducated guy knows better because he's desperate for attention. I say we deport that guy to somewhere far away where he can experience what a truly bad country is like. Edited March 1, 2021 by Brandon bb.king, Tracker, CodyT and 1 other 2 2

Outside of the inferior weather Canada is better in every other way. Higher quality of living, much safer, lower cost of living, health care, outside of Quebec everywhere else is friendly to all races and cultures, better football, cheaper and much higher level of education, higher quality and standards in our foods/pollution/overall health. Outside of the nice weather.. what reasons would anyone want to live in the States is the better question?

I suspect that we ultimately will have a hybrid system. Electrical/hybrid vehicles work well and will get better but in high population density areas. I cannot see a viable alternative to diesel and gasoline vehicles for long-haul semis and for people in rural areas. The good news (for some) is that these changes will suppress petroleum production and prices for the foreseeable future. There will have to be a network of charging stations and battery recycling depots, but this should be good news for hydroelectric producers like Manitoba and Quebec.

blue_gold_84 Posted March 2, 2021 Report Posted March 2, 2021 https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/secretive-legislative-bills-campaign-manitoba-1.5933053 Quote Manitoba's government is limiting debate over 19 new bills by not making any text available for opposition parties or the public to review, say two separate groups trying to expose it and prevent it from happening. Aside from the titles of the bills, the public has no idea what's in them, months after they were tabled in the legislature. "This is unprecedented, undemocratic, undermines the intent of our political system and sets a dangerous precedent for future governments," says an open letter from the grassroots group Communities Not Cuts Manitoba. Current rules of the legislature do not expressly forbid bills from being introduced in this way, which is shocking and needs to be changed, the group says. The present process severely limits the ability of opposition MLAs and the public to engage with the content of the bills before they move from first reading to the next stage of the legislative process. The 19 bills are set to go to second reading later this month. Tracker 1

blue_gold_84 Posted March 8, 2021 Report Posted March 8, 2021 https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/lethbridge-police-service-search-photograph-mla-shannon-phillips-1.5932495 Quote Over the last four years, Lethbridge NDP MLA Shannon Phillips has had suspicions that some members of the city's police force have been monitoring her. A cache of newly released documents shows she was right. Back in 2017, when Phillips was Alberta's environment minister, Lethbridge police officers took surreptitious photographs of her at a diner and posted them anonymously on the internet. But Phillips believed there was additional evidence she was being watched. So in August 2020, she put in a request under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (known as FOIP) on herself and the Lethbridge Police. The result, which she received late last year, was 9,308 pages on a compact disc. Almost all of it is blacked out in full or in part, but the several hundred unredacted pages released and viewed exclusively by CBC News contain startling revelations. Over the course of 11 months in 2018, Phillips's name was searched eight times by five different police officers, one of whom is now retired, as well as one civilian employee. While the documents reveal that police accessed files containing personal information about Phillips, there was no investigative purpose given for any of those searches. This is in stark contrast to searches done with a legitimate purpose — for example, when Phillips's car was stolen in June 2017. The searches revealed in the FOIP request were "a fishing expedition, for reasons of snooping or wanting to engage in gossip," Phillips said in a recent interview with CBC News. "There is no reason associated with the search in those records." That's some unsettling ****. Mark F and Tracker 1 1
GCn20 Posted March 8, 2021 Report Posted March 8, 2021 (edited) Canada and Manitoba are just a plug your nose scenario for government right now. There isn't a single good choice to be had. The Manitoba NDP are just atrocious and no sane person would vote for them, the Cons are being led by a megalomaniac, not even going to mention the Libs as a viable alternative. Federally, the Liberals might be the most corrupt government in the past 100 years with a leader that is just a puppet, the NDP are leaning so far to the left that they might instill communism, and the Cons have no concept of anything East or West of the Alberta border. Just a hold your nose and vote scenario all the way around. As bad as US political choice was in their last election ours is just as bad....maybe worse. Edited March 8, 2021 by GCn20 Noeller 1
