so here's the thing about the AB election. With all the insane things Smith does and says (and they're completely deranged...) she's still in the lead in the polls. I love Rachel Notley, but what does this say about her favourability with voters that she's "losing" to someone as crazy as Smith??? I wonder if she was a middle aged white dude, if she'd be trailing this race...

I don't know if in this particular instance that's what's the case here.

Knuckle dragging men and women aren't going to change their minds if NDP propped up a white male.

Sane undecided voters and sane 'I don't like to vote' need to show up to the polls. This is a full scale emergency, this is not a test. There is no room for voter apathy. We will do everything in our power to help you get out and vote.

If I was Notley I would be saying this out loud to that specific group.

Exhibit A your Honour:

From the Canadian Press:

Smith has stated it's not OK for politicians and accused persons to discuss active criminal cases, but says her call to Pawlowski was OK because as a politician it's her role to interact and hear from constituents and didn't realize the January call would be about his criminal case and that she thought she would be talking politics with him in his then-role as the head of the fringe Independence Party on Alberta.

Angry supporters of Pawlowski attempted to prevent media from talking to the pastor when he was leaving the court on Tuesday, telling reporters to "prepare to meet thy God" and that they would be judged.

It's a problem in every province and at the federal level as well. There just aren't really any good choices anymore. They all stink. In Alberta's case, it's not surprising, it is exceptionally hard to undo memories of the boom and the growth and prosperity therein and most of that is still attributed to Smith's party even if she is batshit nuts herself.

Albertans want a return to 20 years ago when Klein was in power, oil was running out of every orifice, and everyone was flush with cash because of that. I don't think they see Notley as being particularly capable of providing that.

Rachel Notley is a good choice.  If theynhad got a 2nd term Alberta would be so much further ahead. Instead we elected regressives and might elect even more regressive this time which will create a hole almost impossible to climb out of.

Telling people this has been a right-wing strategy for as long as I have lived.  It just simply isn't true.

It has been a left wing strategy to ignore the stink on their side of the spectrum for as long as I have lived. So, yes it is true. It's garbage all around.  I find it almost farcical how you guys can demonize the right while propping up pseudo-criminals like Biden and Trudeau. It is really gross.

It's the "plight" of the centrist voter, don't ya know.

"They all stink" attitude causes apathy and insulates people from critical thinking and examining policy or candidates.  Frustrates the hell out of me when I see people on the left say it too.

Please find policy from a government that's trying to get elected.

Man, it’s not a both sides issue. The Liberals and NDP have policy, weather you agree with it or not. (And furthermore neither of these parties is what I would consider “Left”)
The cons federally have zero in the way of concrete policy. Literally nothing. It’s 100% rhetoric and vague fear-mongering.
Without whatabouting or mentioning Joe Biden or Justin Trudeau, can anyone on here name one piece of actual legislative policy that anyone from the federal CPC has presented?

From the Edmonton Sun, letter to the Editor:

'I think it is time for Edmonton voters to correct their voting choices. For years Edmonton was the ONLY place in the province where you could vote communist. Now we have many Edmonton voters who choose to vote socialist. There is only one taxpayer. Voting for the NDP will only bankrupt Alberta. The time has come to retire Notley and her destructive NDP spenders. I believe the UCP under Smith will do great things for Edmonton and all Albertans. Next on the agenda for Edmonton voters will be to get rid of the Liberal Sohi and his bike riding council. Oh and by the way, once Ontario and Toronto voters quit voting Liberal, Albertans will remove the curse put on the Toronto Maple Leafs'.

Ken Iskiw

A great example of critical thinking, healthy skepticism and just another view point to add to the discussion on who will provide a sound mandate to help all Albertans.

C'mon bro.

No doubt. I am yet to see an opposition party table policies, or costed plans, in many many years. I find it ironic that people are criticizing the federal CPC for not doing it, but are fully on board with our provincial NDP who are even more vague on what policies and plans they would bring to the table.

That's what I would expect from the Sun and it's readers.

There is nothing else. It's just empty rhetoric from empty people.

How deranged do you have to be where calling someone a bike rider is intended as an insult or a bad thing in any way?

Ask our local devils advocate poster, he'll let you know it's actually not so deranged because all politicians are equally bad, he'll insinuate you are only offering a one sided thought but take what he says with a grain of salt ending with a lol.

You best take a timeout before someone gives you one.

If you have that power have at it. If you don't then move on and mind your own business. I am unclear why you guys think it's acceptable to bully others on these political threads but when someone speaks out against it they are the bad guy? Read the words that are said by posters like bluegold84. If people are deserving of timeouts for name calling that is where a mod should start right there. If that's not enforced but calling someone out for doing it is, then this is not a forum I would want to be part of anyway. However, I believe RIch is a little better than that.
