Mike Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 As per Twitter release Spent time with NYG and SD, he's 5'9" 190 lbs out of Southern Methodist.
DR. CFL Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 Glad to see some of Ken Moll's scouting work being brought in. Not having to battle with .....
braddman19 Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 Foreshadowing an announcement that Simpson is out for a lot longer than expected?
17to85 Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 This guy return kicks at all? Could they be looking for a woods replacement?
BBlink Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 This guy return kicks at all? Could they be looking for a woods replacement? I hope they are looking for a Woods replacement....at least until Woods comes back. I know Will Ford brought that kick back for a TD...but he's no Aaron Woods.

Yeah, could someone explain that one to me please? Is it just too much work for him? Remember the amount of trouble Ford had fielding the kickoff that he eventually ran back. Having that back there on punts would terrify me.
Noeller Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 Again, people need to understand that returning kickoffs and returning punts are two very different things...very different skill sets.
Logan007 Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 Again, people need to understand that returning kickoffs and returning punts are two very different things...very different skill sets. One that JJ sucks at doing yet still does. Blue-urns 1
JuranBoldenRules Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 I'd like to see Volny start if Simpson is out. IMO he's a better every down back than Ford, and he can block. Ford is a speed guy. Atomic 1
Atomic Posted September 10, 2013 Report Posted September 10, 2013 Ford had a 2.9 yard average in the Banjo Bowl. I liked that we used Volny at the beginning of the game, not sure why we never went back to him.
ALuCsRED Posted September 12, 2013 Report Posted September 12, 2013 Again, people need to understand that returning kickoffs and returning punts are two very different things...very different skill sets. One that JJ sucks at doing yet still does. I think JJ fields punts just fine. If you look back at his work from previous years, he's come up with big kick returns when the team needs it. He's smart, catches the ball in the air, and doesn't put himself in a position of taking a huge hit/getting injured.
SmokinBlue Posted September 12, 2013 Report Posted September 12, 2013 You would have a point 3 years ago. Currently jovon is too slow to be a threat on returns. Now he turtles half the time and fumbles every time he gives an extra effort. Blue-urns 1
BBlink Posted September 12, 2013 Report Posted September 12, 2013 I'm not sure how my post was taken as I thought Will Ford did punt returns...but okay. Was just saying that even though we had players in place that did a decent job, and even scored a TD on a kick, Woods is that much more of a threat in both aspects (punt and kick returns).
Atomic Posted September 12, 2013 Report Posted September 12, 2013 Johnson's okay. I'd like to see Washington get a little more work there though.
Mike Posted September 12, 2013 Author Report Posted September 12, 2013 Blows my mind that they won't let Washington return punts, especially when Jovon doesn't exactly scream ball security either. Atomic, Blue-urns and Logan007 3
Logan007 Posted September 12, 2013 Report Posted September 12, 2013 Blows my mind that they won't let Washington return punts, especially when Jovon doesn't exactly scream ball security either. Yes exactly my point. JJ drops that ball way too often and barely gets any yardage. I'm thinking he's waiting for that NFL fair catch rule to come into existence in the CFL or something so he can use that instead of running. Blue-urns 1
johnzo Posted September 13, 2013 Report Posted September 13, 2013 I'd like to see Volny start if Simpson is out. IMO he's a better every down back than Ford, and he can block. Ford is a speed guy. IIRC Volny has fumbled at least once in every game where he's gotten significant carries.
AKAChip Posted September 13, 2013 Report Posted September 13, 2013 Jovon's specialty is catching the ball and either falling down or diving forward right away for a gain of two. He reminds me of the VERY over-the-hill AJIII his last trip here. Blue-urns 1
Mr Dee Posted September 13, 2013 Report Posted September 13, 2013 No love for Jovon on punt returns it seems. Jovon currently sits smack dab in the middle of the pack in punt returns in the league. An 8.4 avg. Over a full yard less than Aaron Woods @ 9.5 Over a full yard more than Chad Owens @ 7.1 I don't agree he has ball security issues as he has demonstrated year after year of having capable hands. For my eyes, Jovon picks his spots, if it's open he'll go, if not he does go down. Last game when he struggled to get extra yards, the ball was stripped....not a good thing, but really, that is rare. I too, would like to see Washington back there accepting punts, but don't forget, last year, it was Washington who had trouble fielding punts and was removed from that duty. He seems fine on kickoff returns, however. Woods was going to be the guy, but he can't do much when he's injured.
Super Duper Negatron Posted September 13, 2013 Report Posted September 13, 2013 Didn't Johnson fumble like three times in the first two games? I know he had two in Montreal...
Mr Dee Posted September 13, 2013 Report Posted September 13, 2013 Didn't Johnson fumble like three times in the first two games? I know he had two in Montreal... Are you asking? We played Montreal in the first two games and I can only find one JJ fumble.
