You mean $30 for a popcorn , soda, and one candy is not reasonable?

I now understand why my Mom always would bring her big purse to the movies when I was a child.    We continue that tradition as I don't feel like dropping $100+ dollars on popcorn and drinks when instead we can go to Dollarama/WalMart and get a whole lot more of snacks for only a fraction of the price.

This is Junxion I'm sure if it was the older theatre the stuff would have been less expensive I'm talking about, but it also serves me right for getting additional food like a chicken sandwich and the cheese curds, I better resist the urge to order food when I go see Mufasa next month (just Water and Popcorn) or maybe I'm just also too greedy about earning Scene Points

The previous theatre at KP was equally as expensive.   A kids combo which was a tiny bucket of popcorn a candy and a small drink was $25.     This is why we used to (and still do) buy the packages from Costco which cut the costs quite a bit.

They didn't exactly have much variety in their menu though (let alone booze)

Well let's hope it's successful so it can come here as well so I can experience it since I never got to when it was here

If you go to Grand Forks/Fargo they have Paradiso's which is the same tex-mex food that Chi Chi's used to serve.

The Chi-chi's on Regent Ave used to be very busy and very successful back in the day.  I remember always having to wait for a table and the free taco chips and salsa and everyone 'wow'ing over the sizzling fajitas that were being served.  I do remember it being a good experience with good food.      Eventually the owner sold it at its peak and the new owners had no clue how to run a restaurant and within 2 years they lost their franchise and renamed it to a different  Mexican name and then closed shop not much later.

I'm always amazed that nobody has set up a Tex-Mex shop since then.

Has anyone gone to Belle's Kitchen and Music Hall yet?   I had a coworker who went and said the portions were tiny and the food was super bland. It would be nice to have real BBQ without having to drive to Steinbach.

Would love reviews on this one too. Ever since Famous Dave's went to crap (maybe it is better now? last time I went it was garbage) I have been looking for a new BBQ fix.

A recent review of Belle's (like a few hours old recent) on Reddit does not sound promising.  The one thing you need to nail is the food and they don't seem to be doing that.  I'll be sticking to Bigg Smoak in Steinbach.

Quote

Atmosphere - 10/10 - Reminded me of a barbeque joint. I also loved the musician playing.

Service - 10/10 - Went on a Sunday afternoon so it was not too busy. Staff were very friendly. Food came out quick.

Food - 3/10 - I ordered the brisket and pork ribs. The pork ribs were dry and lacked flavour. The brisket was only slightly better. I have been to a lot of top barbeque places in the US, so I know I have a high standard, but this was bad.

Price - 10/10 - I saw a few people say the prices were high, but meat is expensive and a lot of time and work goes into preparation for barbeque.

I had extremely high hopes for this place as I love barbeque and there is no good barbeque place in Winnipeg. I will probably return in a few months time to see if the quality of the food improves because I really hope it does and I am rooting for this place to survive as it is a cool and unique place, at least for Winnipeg.

Rob has (and continues to) looked for place in Winnipeg so I'm sure it'll happen eventually.  He actually kicked tires on the spot that turned into Belle's so it looks like that place was destined for BBQ one way or the other.

The last time I went (Summer of 2023) the service was extremely slow ,  the food wasn't good,  and the portions were shrunk massively.   My two sides were served each in bowls that were nearly as small as the little paper cardboard ketchup bowls that you get at McDonalds.    Post COVID each time we had gone we had terrible service waiting 45 minutes+ despite the restaurant only having a few patrons.    I will say the catering experiences were really good with them and each time we have used them for parties it has been a big hit.

I think that was Smoking Hawg at Harbour View?  That was the first and only BBQ restaurant that I've gone to not have french fries or chicken tenders.  We went once and the food was bland and  they only had one bbq sauce that you could use.  The meat was cooked perfectly though.  It closed quickly because harbour view is basically a ghost town and parking in winter is a nightmare (5+ minute walk).

Loveys was great when the main owner was in,  when he wasn't in the quality seemed to drop off sharply.  They had a bunch of kids in the kitchen and if memory serves me correct lots of complaints about the owner constantly rotating staff and mistreating them.     Either way Loveys was always busy when we used to go and seemed to be successful since everyone I knew would go and liked it.

Yeah ,Roger wasnt the most pleasant fellow ,not just with his staff. His neighbors there as well. But he served excellent food.

I knew Roger long before the Loveys days, hearing him called less than pleasant hurts. He always was an entrepreneur and worked for himself, I can see needing to lead and manage others being outside his safe zone. It just isn't something I ever experienced dealing with him in the late 80's early 90's.

Hey ,my dealings with him were always pleasant. He toured me through his kitchen ,got the odd Hog Spit Lager on the house.

The neighboring businesses had issues with him......by all accounts...
