We really need to see Ren at the height of his powers and a real opposition from all the star systems. The way Jedi ended, it was "unfortunate" for bulk of the Imperial fleet to be at new Death Star and for every ranking member to get caught up in the destruction. I'm not sure how many First Order dreadnaughts there were but more than one, obviously. Kind of wished they saved the Star Killer now for the third episode.
bluto Posted December 19, 2017 Report Posted December 19, 2017 (edited) What a terrible freaking movie. It's as if the directors of the last two films hated each other and set out to make stories that didn't even link to each other. I'm damn near ready to beg Lucas to come back... it's that bad. And if they in fact had an editor, he/she/they ought to be shot. It was slowwww and borrrrring. If you had never heard of Star Wars and the in-story universe meant nothing to you, you'd hate the film because nothing happens. And I won't even open the can of worms that is my biggest beef with it. Edited December 19, 2017 by bluto The Unknown Poster, Atomic, JCon and 1 other 4

And he’s director and writer of 9 would be involved. Probably too much to blame him because the films were disjointed. TFA and TLJ don’t flow well. They tried to be different for different s sake. And it didn’t work.

For all the criticism of Jjs film as a rehash, it was way better.
Atomic Posted December 19, 2017 Report Posted December 19, 2017 My biggest beef is still the poor attempt at comedy. It's like there were no funny writers hired on the movie and then the studio came in and said "can you make this funny like Deadpool?" Except the writers have no idea how to be funny so it ends up being awful. "I've got an important message for Hux... about his mother." Come on. That's just plain bad. That whole first segment was awful for that reason. And it was weird hearing them use sort of “modern” comedy and verbiage. The interaction with Hux about waiting on hold, the mom joke. Someone said “we’re toast” at one point to and that verbiage sort of struck me as odd for Star Wars. The clmedy around BB8 didn’t bother me. I liked it in TFA too. But we need to believe Hux is formidable, not a goof. The entire bad guy side was gutted in this film. Episode 9 looks like the “long awaited showdown” of a lousy dark side user against an inexperienced light side user. Where do I sign up? someone might say that’s like Luke who was also inexperienced. But it’s very different. Luke had more training. But his entire point was that he would not fight his father. He would not defeat him with the force. He’d turn him. Yoda and Ben were desperate to train him to physically defeat Vader but Luke was right. In this trilogy they throw that away. “I can’t save him” or whatever Luke said about Kylo. Leia, who in TFA pleads wirh Han to save Kylo because she feels the good in him agrees he must be killed. So the whole point is different and Rey, who they now say is not special and has no emotional connection to the story is meant to physically defeat someone she already defeated. This film completely ignores TFA.

The Unknown Poster Posted December 21, 2017 Report Posted December 21, 2017 JJ has his work cut out for him to repair the damage in one film he has to - resolve Leia - explain Snoke - correct Rey’s parentage - make Kylo formidable - correct Luke and resurrect him to be the optimist badass we want - complete this disjointed muddled trilogy JCon 1

Big First Order attack. Bye Princess. - explain Snoke - At this point, I don't care. They killed the storyline. He's already forgotten. - correct Rey’s parentage - Yes, but boy is it going to seem weird when that comes back up. - make Kylo formidable - No kidding. How do you make him badder than Vader, though? He's leading the First Order, so he should be one BMF. - correct Luke and resurrect him to be the optimist badass we want - He's dead. Obviously, he can come back like Yoda and Ben have. - complete this disjointed muddled trilogy - He'll make it three-for-three on disjointed messes, I'm sure. Just keep it simple. Go with what makes sense and what does the least damage.
johnzo Posted December 21, 2017 Report Posted December 21, 2017 Why is it so important that Rey has some big secret origin? We see all kinds of Force kids in the prequel movies and given how Jedi aren't allowed to mate or love, those younglings must have come from plain old non Force parents... I know that JJ Abrams teased that Rey had some mysterious pedigree but remember, this is the guy who made Lost -- he's great at setting up mysteries but not so much at paying them off...
The Unknown Poster Posted December 21, 2017 Report Posted December 21, 2017 It’s not that Rey needs to be someone. Although I prefer the idea that the Skywalker family is special. For some reason they seemed to want to undermine the precious trilogies by making the Skywalkers not important. But TFA clearly hinted she was special and her parentage was important. This film ignores that. Logan007 1

The old Jedi weren't allowed to mate. But remember they had fallacy's to them as Luke explained. You don't have to be "married" to the force in order to be a Jedi. That's what those books will teach Rey. That there must be balance. I'm guessing there will be a few surprises in EP9. I personally don't think Snoke is gone. There's a reason he looks like he's half ripped apart. I'm guessing a powerful force user as him knows how to keep himself alive by transferring himself into a different body. As for Rey's parentage....we'll see. JJ loves to have tricks up his sleeve.

I would like to have seen Rey's parentage tie in with Palpatine's bloodline. Make sense why they would leave her on a desert planet, away from everyone. Also makes sense why she has such a strong connection to the force and some darkside leanings.

Time line be damned ( we dont know reys age any way) dutchess satine and obiwan parents are my no1. A rebels tie in would be great too.

Side note: I thought Rey looked much older in this film. Something about her face in the first one made her look exceptionally young but she seemed to age about 5 to 8 years by The Last Jedi. wbbfan 1

You have a goofy fool and a petulant brat as your big bad guys. On the flip side you have a young girl with almost no training bordering on the brink of “Mary sue”, a leader we know won’t be in the next film and the saga hero who was wasted and killed off. I’d say Poe is actually the most heroic but this film took him three steps back too. Fin might be the least damaged character from this film. To be fair I like Rey and feel she wasn’t damaged so much as not really moved forward that much and her abilities are simply too much at this point.

But being related to palpatine would be fine too. And the dark side that calls her could actually be Palps. And in doing that, the films connect more to the others. Jedi doesn’t feel like a sequel to TFA.

If the future is without Jedi (or a Jedi order) and it's just a pair of Force-sensitive entities bordering on dark and light, I'm okay with that.
