SpeedFlex27 Posted April 13, 2018 Report Posted April 13, 2018 (edited) When Lyle Bauer was with the Stamps he started a fan forum here. When he left the Stamps were quick to cancel it permanently much to the chagrin of Calgary fans. They had at least 300 fans at the last one three years ago & it was a huge success. However, the Stamps Choke is always on year after year & they keep blowing playoff games & Grey Cups to inferior teams. The way I see it, the Stamps are out of touch with their shrinking fanbase. I don't think management wants to hear it in spades from disgruntled Stamps fans demanding answers. Easier to cancel, claim all is fine with the world & not be accountable to their fans. I doubt that's why they don't want to have it. Reality with fan forums in every city is you only get the die hards. Die hards don't sell tickets, a good football team and mass engagement do. I live in Calgary. I see just as many stamps logos on cars as I do flames logos. People here love their team. They hate the choking, but eventually they know the stamps will take home a GC. The bigger issue in my opinion is weather. The stadium is wide open... in bad or cold weather it really SUCKS sitting in that stadium. No much covering from wind. Or rain. Or snow. Or rider fans. Those asshats are everywhere. One thing I liked about the Stamps is how they run the Red and White club. Every member has assigned reps that come to the tables and ask for feedback every game. They engage and find out how the members business is doing, what they can do to increase engagement / involvement, referrals, etc. The argos can learn alot from other teams. I was living in Toronto from 2005 to 2011... the first few years fan support was great. In game entertainment was great, the team made an effort engage with fans, get them on the field after and create a "family" atmosphere. Something changed after 2007 when the 100th cup hangover was over and then it went downhill from there. kelownabomberfan 1

In the last 10 years it seems like half the league has gotten new stadiums. Hopefully in less then 10 more year every one will be playing in high quality digs.

Something changed after 2007 when the 100th cup hangover was over and then it went downhill from there. Don't you think the name of the place should be the RedBlack Club? Oh wait. Just sayin'. The CFL has 9 teams. It used to be that there were two teams named Roughriders or Rough Riders just with different spelling. People used to think that was stupid. Now we have 9 separate team names . However, we have 2 teams with the same colours & virtually the same uniform design in Calgary & Ottawa. That only happens in the CFL. I have lived in Calgary nearly 30 years. I don't see the support for the Stamps that you claim there is. The City doesn't love the team. I see nothing but indifference. Kids don't wear Stamps jerseys to school. People don't wear Stampeder ball caps or tee shirts. At the water coolers, in offices & businesses around the city, the Stamps don't come up in conversations. Cars & trucks don't have as many white horse logos as there used to be 20 years ago. Nobody talks about the Stamps except how they choke & to be honest they certainly do a fine job of that. To the point that The Choke is expected now by Calgarians. The Flames really do suck so that explains the tepid reaction of the fans to the hockey team. The Flames owners don't care about the Stamps. They have no plans for a new stadium. I don't believe they ever had. The Mayor & City Council don't care about the Stamps. They won't spend a penny towards a new stadium. Season ticket sales are down. Casual fans stay home. Do fans here love the Stamps? More like a core of 24-26,000 in a city of 1.4 million. They are looked upon as chokers. A team with outstanding talent, great coaching & a respected GM but seemingly always falling short the last game of the season. So, 13-5, 14-4 & 15-3 mean nothing to football fans here if the Stamps can't win their very last game of the season. They've seen it too many times as The Choke is in. That's how I see it having lived here since 1990. Edited April 15, 2018 by SpeedFlex27
Brandon Posted April 15, 2018 Report Posted April 15, 2018 I wonder what happens if Calgary goes into a slump and has two bad years in a row where they are at the bottom?

Did you know that in Calgary, there is only one month in which there has never been snow? Its July.
jazzsax Posted April 18, 2018 Report Posted April 18, 2018 Not sure I agree Speed, but then again I live in the deep south of the city where we love our beer, love our guns, love our sports, and and don't give a **** about Nenshi and the asshats at city hall. All the complainers must live north of Glenmore and south of 32nd. LOL

LOL You omitted two defining southern Alberta characteristics: porn shops and religiosity (like your Cowboy churches where everyone has to dress and talk like cowpersons). Fatty Liver 1

Ha, you're in Parkland, right? Just a stone's throw away from me. Across Canyon Meadows Drive from Bonavista. Do you still live there? I was in Winnipeg 3 weeks ago. My son came to check on our house & there was a Bobcat standing in our front yard. He took a picture of it from the safety of his car. Edited April 20, 2018 by SpeedFlex27

Nope Cranston. and yes those damned bobcats are always a concern, never seen any of them but woke up one night last summer to a huge assed coyote standing in the street yipping away. 8 hours ago, jazzsax said: Exactly. I don't have any logos on the house but I wear bomber gear often enough. I'm only a few blocks from the jr. highschool.
