But what we mainly have had this season is a problem with underproduction at the QB position. For several years the problem was on defence - giving up too many yards, points and explosion plays. That meant the O had to score a gazillion points for the Bombers to win because the D surrendered so many to the opponent. Now that the D has tightened up a bit but the O can't produce. Obviously there is a problem with Nichols (he is likely done) but I think they also need to take a look at how that QB situation was managed. That means taking a look at Lapo and - sorry to say it but - QB coach Buck Pierce. Totally agree with this. Whether Nicholls is injured or not, there's something mentally wrong as well. He's simply not the same. The coaches must know and recognize this, and yet on we go. Managing this situation has been very poor. And not at least planning as a contingency for 17 to come in, and having a package ready for him, seems incredibly mismanaged.

Super Duper Negatron Posted September 9, 2018 Report Posted September 9, 2018 After thinking about it some more, you can't blame that game on anyone but Nichols. As awful as Lapo's game plan was, you had a QB throw essentially 5 awful interceptions, two in the red zone that amount to a 20 point swing at a minimum, possibly even 28. Nichols singlehandedly lost that game. Goalie, Mark F, deepsixemtoboyd and 5 others 8

Wolo's been pretty good so far, but he's no deep threat and Walters certainly needs to do better bringing in import receivers. That doesn't change the fact that we'd likely be a better offense if we had more Imports on it and we'd likely be a worse defense if we had more non-imports on it.

rebusrankin Posted September 9, 2018 Report Posted September 9, 2018 In the past five games our offense has scored 117 points or 23.4 a game. I think we need to move past this highest scoring offense argument. We've been struggling now for awhile on offense.

What is most concerning is that we are losing to teams that aren't very good. Sask sucks and Ottawa isn't much better. This team has been mismanaged with great skill. Edited September 9, 2018 by J5V

Guest J5V Posted September 9, 2018 Report Posted September 9, 2018 Did Mike O'Shea really say "Hey Matt, be ready cos you may be going right back in."? Can you imagine the reaction in the stadium if O'Shea had sent him back out there? Wow! This guy lives in a different reality from me, that's for sure.

To have one guy as good at both placekicking and punting is extremely rare. There are better punters, but they don't placekick. There are a couple placekickers in his realm but they don't punt. He's definitely worth one of four DI spots considering most teams are using 2 roster spots and more cap space on kickers, at least the teams with good kickers. rebusrankin, Tracker, SPuDS and 2 others 5
Stickem Posted September 9, 2018 Report Posted September 9, 2018 (edited) There has been many questions about how O'Shea manages the players but none are answered....Usually we get the quick brush off or no answer at all...Mismanagement is very obvious....you just have to look at how the qbs. are handled...Obvious holes in our line-up are not being addressed...(returner for one) and it's costing this team...It's down to O'Shea AND Walters to fix something over this bye week....it's their job....and it could literally mean their jobs if it isn't...Get a big receiver in here who can catch...not these spindly types like Thompkins and Washington...both of whom were nic'd badly when they tried to extend themselves...Washington hit the turf without really getting hit at all on one play and barely got up....IS this the best we can do???pitiful if it is O'Shea...Four game losses in a row better get someone's attention Edited September 9, 2018 by Stickem
Guest J5V Posted September 9, 2018 Report Posted September 9, 2018 When asked if Matt Nichols was going to start the next game Mike O'Shea responded that he needs to take a deep breath and let the emotions subside before making any rash decisions. Then he was asked how he felt about a few of his players saying it's good that it's a bye week. His response was that it depends, sometime you wish you could get right back on the field right now. So, do you want to take a deep breath and let the emotions subside or do you want to get right back on the field? No clue.

It's about Peterman, Wolo, Simonize or ex-NFLers or ex-NCAA stars. An import over Demski may be an upgrade on offense, pretty certain an import returner would be an upgrade over Demski. PLAP takes a ton of crap for using the short game so much, but he only has one (import) deep threat, a QB who isn't accurate on the deep throw, and a suspect OL. Harris, our best player on offense and great at making guys miss, gets the ball a ton. His catches are mostly going to be the short ball. PLAP is trying to put the players he has in the best spot to succeed. Give him better players and he likely changes some of what he does. (Queue 17's PLAP's gonna PLAP). Tracker 1

Can you imagine the reaction in the stadium if O'Shea had sent him back out there? Wow! This guy lives in a different reality from me, that's for sure. it would have been a gong show..... I re-watched the game this morning, and as brutal of mistakes as Nichols made, he really wasn't having that bad of a game until his complete melt down. If he throws away that first pick to Jefferson, they kick a FG and it's 13-0 rather than 10-7. The underhand debacle, take the sack and go to second down. Maybe we get a TD, very least, come away with 3 more. Those 2 complete brain farts totally changed the game. These are mistakes that he prided himself on not making last season, and where everyone said he does a very good job protecting the ball. You obviously can't overlook those terrible plays... but if he just eats those instead of throwing them away, he's actually not having that bad of a game. He was finally hitting some intermediate routes, and the other INT he did throw, was deep downfield. He was technically actually on pace for his first 300 yard passing game of the year. You can live with a deep INT once in a while, because it can be argued it's somewhat equal to a punt. When he's throwing INTs on 3 yard dump passes though, those are just inexcusable. He needs to sit out against Montreal and watch a whole game from the sidelines... the emotions will be running too high at IGF next game. Nichols will probably start again, but I feel it needs to be on the road against Edmonton. He always seems to get up for games against his former team, so this cooling off period could be a good thing to him. He's very much lost out there. Edmonton put 48 points up against a very good Calgary D yesterday. What do you think they're going to do to Richie Hall's D? If you think we're playing bad now, just wait until we're facing Calgary and Edmonton again.

You better move to the States and start scouting then. Again, bullshit. The only part that has any credible thought is on Neufeld. We should have had more depth behind Hardrick and Foketi, but them getting hurt in consecutive weeks is pretty unusual. We've had a bunch of import returners and if you look around the league there aren't many guys lighting it up right now. Fogg is one of the top punt returners. It's not worth rostering someone to do kickoffs. I agree the import scouting has left a lot to be desired. But disagree with the bullshit assumption about imports vs Canadians. I don't believe that offense yesterday would have been better with 3 more average import players starting. Edited September 9, 2018 by JuranBoldenRules BigBlueFanatic 1

If our offense is going to be a 17 point handicap every week it wouldn't matter if we could have a seance and have Buddy Ryan running our D. We won't beat anyone. And the D has actually been good on the whole this season with a few bad games. The O is a black hole.
