The import scouting has been ****, and I think partially because they don't do a good job of developing guys or giving new guys a real shot to develop.  Instead they get stuck on one dimensional players like Lankford, because he's so damn fast!  He can make like two big plays in a whole season just by being so fast!

Okay then, is it the chicken or the egg?

Sounds to me like better scouting won't solve anything because the real problem is whoever's in charge of deciding who is going to play?

I'd say not.  We've never had a great push from our DL. We have to blitz to get pressure & we get burned. Our DL isn't good enough to pressure on its own.

There was nothing wrong with the pressure in the first half. But then Calgary schemed to add more protection, which put the onus on the secondary.

We haven't been a great team pressuring the qb with our DL under Hall. We need blitz packages to help do that & we get burned a lot because opposing qbs pick it up. Yeah, we did have pressure first half & then in the second half nothing from our DL. We start blitzing & poof big plays & touchdowns.

They added extra protection in the second half. You can see it on every one of the Stamps’ TDs - 6 or 7 blockers. The Stamps made that adjustment which put the onus on the secondary to get it done in coverage.

And when we blitzed we got scorched. It got to the point where O'Shea told Ritchie to stop blitzing.

6 blockers, 1 QB

With a 3 or 4 man rush, that leaves 8 or 9 players to cover 5 receivers.

On the Jorden TD, I’m pretty sure I counted 7 blockers.

How and why did Lapo go away from the two back set? Whether it’s with Flanders who I prefer, or with Demski, we’ve had tons of success with that formation.

Start Streveler, dress Flanders and let Demski come into the backfield on sweeps. There won’t be a team in the league that could stop our running game. We can’t win throwing with Nichols and this receiving core.

Until they do.

Then Lapo and all will change the game plan to figure to account for the run game being stymied. Have mixed success as he tries different things.

Then the fans, with pitchforks/torches/gnashing teeth, are forming a mob bitching and bemoaning the days of yore when the triple headed trampling monster of Flanders, Harris and Streveler ran rampant across the broken bodies of opposing defenders.

Stamps just followed the same max protect recipe as Ham and Ott. Sad Bombers didn't see it coming.

Walters is probably a good scout of Canadian draft talent. MOS probably a good special teams coach.

"We need more pressure Richie." lol about 20 mins too late.

Way over their heads in their current roles with this club.

There you have it. Teams dare us for Hall to make that adjustment so they can burn us. That's why we lose the adjustment game every half.

Either you have superior players or you have superior coaches. Have one or the other and you have a chance. Have both and you win championships. Have neither and you have the Bombers.

And a decent scouting staff.

"I wish to thank Tony and Todd for their dedication and work with our organization," said Head Coach Mike O'Shea. "I'm excited to take a more active role with our defence and welcoming coach Younger to the organization."

My point:

If People dont like the defence, it's not all on Richie Hall.

O'Shea has to be given some responsiblility for the state of the defence based on what he said on Jan 5 2018.

Probably also makes decisions during the game about the D as well.
