JCon Posted November 1, 2023 Report Posted November 1, 2023 I also noticed far fewer local kids around our block but we had a record number of carloads from elsewhere. I have never seen the street so full of cars and didn't recognize a soul. It was crazy dangerous. Good thing my son was hard to miss in his inflatable costume.
iHeart Posted March 1 Report Posted March 1 and winter will not go away it kind of reminds me of march of 2012 when we had a thunderstorm on the last day of Winter A strong winter storm is poised to affect southern Manitoba this weekend. This system will likely bring snow, rain, freezing rain, and even a few rumbles of thunder. Snow will begin in southern Manitoba Saturday evening. On Saturday night, snow may change to freezing rain and rain in southeast parts of the province including the Red River Valley. Where the precipitation remains snow, likely west and north of the Red River Valley, significant accumulations of 20 to 30 cm could occur. Winter Storm Watches and Warnings likely to be issued closer to event time for these areas. Strong winds with gusts up to 80 km/h Saturday night and Sunday will give low visibility in blowing snow. Unnecessary travel is not recommended. The exact track of this system is uncertain and as a result, the location of the snow, freezing rain, and rain is uncertain and will become more clear as the system approaches. The storm will move out of the region Monday.
SpeedFlex27 Posted March 3 Report Posted March 3 Environmant Canada really scaled back the amount of snow the Winnipeg area will get. At least from the forecast I read this morning. I think the amount of rain & freezing rain will affect the amount of snow you guys get. Here in Calgary, we've got close to 20 cms of new snow on the ground. We've had 2 years of bad drought so I hope that this means we'll get more snow & rain for the remainder of March & into spring.

Looks like Regina is going to get hammered with up to 20cm of snow today. Brandon wont get as much snow but they are expecting high winds so they may get blizzard conditions. For Winnipeg, like you said the worse might be the freezing rain. Hopefully the temps stay below zero today.

iHeart Posted November 18 Report Posted November 18 (edited) well we all knew this was going to happen sooner or later 4:26 PM CST Monday 18 November 2024 Special Weather Statement in effect for: City of Winnipeg Significant winter storm to bring major change in the weather to the Red River Valley. This system is expected to have notable impacts throughout the eastern Prairies and has many weather alerts associated with it. If you need to travel in the coming days, we recommend you consult with the available travel information: English Weather Alerts for Canada: https://weather.gc.ca/ Manitoba 511: https://www.manitoba511.ca/ Saskatchewan Highway Hotline: https://hotline.gov.sk.ca/ Français Alertes météo pour le Canada: https://meteo.gc.ca/ Manitoba 511: https://www.manitoba511.ca/ Saskatchewan Highway Hotline: https://hotline.gov.sk.ca/ A strong low pressure system will begin impacting the Red River Valley early Tuesday as it spreads rain northwards into the region. Precipitation should stay as rain for much of the day, but by late in the afternoon a changeover to snow may begin to build eastwards across the Red River Valley. Most areas will receive 10 to 20 mm of rain through the day, though locally higher values are possible. There is a small chance that the changeover to snow could happen earlier in the day. If that happens, then up to 5 cm of snow would be possible by the evening. The precipitation will switch over to snow across the Red River Valley on Tuesday night and continue through Wednesday. Accumulations will vary widely across the region with as little of a trace of snow possible over the northeastern Red River Valley and as much as 10 to 20 cm along the western escarpment. This system will exit the region with improving conditions later this week. This system will push temperatures back towards seasonal values, though a more significant cold snap doesn't look likely until next week. That said, with a building snowpack across the southern Prairies, above-freezing daytime highs will quickly become more rare across the region. (when can this site be able to embed Bluesky Skeets? Goalie Posted Saturday at 07:26 PM Report Posted Saturday at 07:26 PM (edited) We got like 2 cms of snow if that even. I didn’t shovel and the walkways are clear. It’s weird when it’s minus 5 and no snow. Feels colder. This is a La Nina winter so lots of cold & snow forecast. There'll be some warm days but not enough to significantly melt it all.
