Do you actually think he will get suspended from team or anything like that?  That won't happen. Its a stupid thing for him to do, no one is defending it. People don't lose their jobs because they got a DUI unless their job is driving related

certainly happens everywhere all the time...doesn't make it acceptable or right...and everyone who is dumb enough to do it now still in my eyes is a P.O.S regardless if it's joe nobody or most famous person walking this earth....the fact he was gassed that bad prior to a big game itself just reeks of how much the team lacks leadership and character guys..noting wrong with drinks and some fun, but generally before a game you tend to back off a bit as it will effect you days after from peak performance...

I would probably lose my job with a dui, and I don't drive. We have a code of conduct we have to sign every year.

No, I don't think he'll be suspended, although I think the CFL should have a policy on it.  Hughes could probably use the rest anyways. The old man is slowing down with only two sacks since Labour Day.

This is a criminal offence as well as a summary offence, and in many instances, a criminal conviction will cause job loss or suspension.

All charges in the Criminal Code are, by definition, criminal offences.  Those are broken down into lesser - Summary and greater - Indictable.  This is a hybrid charge in that the crown has the option of  proceeding either summarily or by indictment.

Pro Athletes should be held to a higher standard. Saying that, I don't think it should be a much bigger issue than a civilian(?) DUI - if it his first offense, just be smart and responsible from here on out.

Especially when it was already a short week for them.  Not a lot of recovery time in there to be getting that hammered.

Of course, it's okay. He's a Rider. Besides, he didn't kill or injure himself or anyone else is beyond fortunate.  But the fact he actually used terrible judgement to get into his car & drive in that condition as well as refuse a breathylizer sure makes it a non story in Riderville. Okay. he should be thanking his lucky stars that his stupidity didn't cost a life.

AND that's the gist of it isn't....If you hold pubic office or you have a profile that is considered larger than the average layman you are held and judged to a higher degree..  Hughes has profile in a community and is supposed to set an example...he failed...The law will consider this and in most cases will come down harder on a person like Hughes...These guys in riderville, who are trying to pass this off as a 'oh so what', are going to be in for a rude awakening...The courts AND the court of public opinion can and most likely will be harsher in Hughes case...The team will have no choice but to follow suit...Things to consider before you get behind the wheel of a car, and by your intoxication turn it into a weapon ...Giant fail by Hughes
