I chuckled at the thought of the fat, over-rated Canadian Olympic curler and useless talking head attempting to play QB in the CFL....

I don’t knooow about this one. I mean, it’s easier to argue undefeated team’s rankings, because, you know they haven’t lost yet...

So,

quashqai these rankings for now. (a little bit)

Here's this week's Nissan rankings:

1. Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Record: 2-0
Last Week: 1

The Bombers’ offence is exciting to watch. We already know about Andrew Harris and Darvin Adams, but Chris Matthews is a matchup nightmare, Nic Demski is versatile and Lucky Whitehead is a threat to score every time he touches the ball. Winnipeg fans have every reason to believe in this team.

eDMONTONpng.png

2. Edmonton Eskimos

Record: 2-1
Last Week: 2

The Eskimos took too many penalties (15 for 139 yards) and couldn’t finish drives (seven Sean Whyte field goals), but everything still clicked despite a 28-21 loss to Winnipeg. In a battle of the CFL’s top teams, the Esks doubled the Bombers in first downs (29-14) and racked up 440 yards and more than 36 minutes of possession.

HamiltonPNG.png

3. Hamilton Tiger-Cats

Record: 3-0
Last Week: 4

The scariest part about the Ticats’ 3-0 start is that Jeremiah Masoli has yet to play his best football. Brandon Banks is electric. Sean Thomas-Erlington isn’t just a ratio-breaker, he’s one of the best running backs in the CFL. On defence, Dylan Wynn has bolstered a defensive line that now leads the CFL in sacks (12). There’s a lot to like in Hamilton.

CalgaryPNG.png

4. Calgary Stampeders

Record: 1-1
Last Week: 3

Two minutes, two touchdowns and an onside kick were all the Stamps needed to engineer one of the great comebacks in recent memory. Still, there’s cause for concern, especially if Bo Levi Mitchell is sidelined for any period of time. Calgary was outplayed almost all game, managing just 23 minutes of possession and giving up 34 first downs on defence.

ottawa_englishPNG.png

5. Ottawa REDBLACKS

Record: 2-0
Last Week: 5

Which Dominique Davis will show up in Week 4? The 29-year-old is coming off an incredible performance before the bye week, throwing for 354 yards and three touchdowns. No one’s completely sold after just two games, but everyone’s paying attention as the REDBLACKS attempt to rewrite the script with a new-look roster.

saskatchewan.png

6. Saskatchewan Roughriders

Record: 1-2
Last Week: 7

It took several hours on a stormy, weather-delayed night in Regina, but Craig Dickenson finally found the win column in an impressive all-around win over the Argos. The defence got a much-needed bounce back, but fans are most excited about Cody Fajardo, who’s thrown for 790 yards and averaged 12.2 yards per attempt in two starts.

britishcolumbia.png

7. BC Lions

Record: 0-3
Last Week: 6

Last-minute meltdown aside, Saturday was a positive step for the Lions. Mike Reilly looked like Mike Reilly again, completing 36 of his 42 passes (86%) for 354 yards and two touchdowns, and the running game was also a lot more involved. The arrow is pointing up as the Lions seek their first win of the season in Toronto.

als-logo-reduced-png-800x800.png

8. Montreal Alouettes

Record: 0-2
Last Week: 8

There were signs of a spark for the Alouettes in Week 3 vs. the Ticats but they just couldn’t start the fire in a 41-10 loss. It’s not all bad though. Vernon Adams Jr. looks like he’s worth investing time in while B.J. Cunningham and William Stanback continue to be exciting options on offence. Can Bob Slowik’s defence learn on the fly?

TorontoPNG.png

9. Toronto Argonauts

Record: 0-2
Last Week: 9

It may have been Canada Day but the Riders were not friendly hosts to the visiting Argos, who punted nine times and managed just 19 first downs in a 32-7 loss to Saskatchewan. Outscored 96-21 over the first two games, Corey Chamblin faces some difficult questions before Week 4, including behind centre with the struggling James Franklin.

I'd go:

Winnipeg - Beat a good team and a bad team. Lucky it's a team game.

Hamilton - Killed bad teams. Not convinced they are anywhere near as good as they've looked so far.

Edmonton - Reduce the penalties. Win the big games.

Ottawa - As good as Dom plays. We'll see if he can keep it up going forward.

Calgary - Lucky to win one.

Regina - Playing Toronto is good for what ails you.

BC - Getting better, but a long way to go.

Montreal - Should be the worst team in the league.

Toronto - Are the worst team in the league.

Anywhere is a bit extreme. Somewhere probably. Don't fault Hamilton for the schedule they were handed.

I'd put them second or third.

Looks like a solid list- the only change I would make is swapping 2 and 3- Ti-shats should be higher than the shmoes.

Shmoes beat two terrible footbal clubs. Ti-Shats beat 2.5 terrible footbal teams, but beat two of them like a rented mule- so I give them the edge.

Week 6 and it's still music to my ears:

Quote

1. Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Record: 5-0
Last Week: 1

Allowing just 13.2 offensive points per game, the defence has been the engine of the Bombers’ 5-0 start. But even without Chris Matthews this offence has looked as dangerous as any, led by Matt Nichols‘ 12:1 touchdown to interception ratio and 129.1 QB rating. You’re looking at a legitimate CFL powerhouse.

I would disagree that the defense has been the engine of the Bombers 5-0 start.....they've been good, but that's not giving nearly enough credit to Nichols and the offense.

The completion streak overshadowed most performances.... but defence held the bombers in that last game while the offence was absolutely putrid in the first quarter

Plus the stand against Edmonton after Harris fumbled late in the game...

D is the core of this team - they put the offence in a position to win

Pretty hard to not give the D credit when they have allowed like what? 5 TDs in 5 games? Zero 100 yard rushers and outside of last game were on the field more than the O. I dunno.

When u really break it down... D and special teams have bailed the O out a few games this season leading me to come to a simple conclusion that the bombers are 5 and 0 because they are a good team.

Although the Bombers have scored the second most points in the league and lead with 13 touchdown passes, they’re doing it with defence. Offensively they rank fifth in net offence, second in rushing thanks to Andrew Harris but dead last in passing. Only the Argos have had more two-and-outs. Still, they lead in time of possession.

They’ve surrendered the fewest points and have the best takeaway-to-turnover ratio. Winnipeg has forced the most turnovers and has the second fewest penalties. They don’t beat themselves.

Kenny Lawler who might be the deep threat they have lacked the last few seasons. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound receiver from California spent the last three seasons on the Seattle Seahawks and B.C. Lions practice roster, from whence he was plucked by Blue Bomber general manager Kyle Walters.

Really surprised about the 2-and-outs stat...

Don’t dwell on it. Those stats include those early games where we seemed to be so inconsistent. The players on Offence are figuring it out, more and more, and it’s showing.

I'm stoked but Ottawa-Toronto-Ottawa may be giving us a bit of a false sense of where we are offensively...  Ottawa's D is a shambles this year for some reason.

Harris having fumblitis this year is a bit scary...

Will find out soon enough!

Defence is definitely the strength of this team. There is only one way to lead in touchdowns while having low yardage totals and that is from a defence and special teams that continually gives you short fields to work with.
