Read something yesterday (can`t remember the source) that was quite insightful imo concerning Babcock. This person saw two different people when it came to MB. One when he was at the rink and one when he was away from the rink.  Reminded me of the different masks we can wear depending on the situation you are in.

Imo, there is nothing wrong with a hard ass coach. Sometimes a literal kick in the ass is needed. But going racial, or questioning sexual orientation and stuff like that... That's where the line is. Thou shalt not cross.

It's a matter of respect.  The psychological warfare stuff is well past it's time, like sitting out Chelios for an outdoor game in Chicago, benching Modano at 1499 career games played, berating injured players who are playing.  That's all personal garbage and small man syndrome stuff.  People with Babcock's personality don't have the leadership skills to manage the produce department at a Safeway.  Wonder how many cups those 00's Detroit teams win with an actual leader.

Exactly. There's a difference between being a hardass and being a douchenozzle. Treating players like trash undoubtedly falls in the latter category.

CALGARY — A deal to build a new arena in downtown Calgary is official after definitive agreements were signed between the city, the Calgary Flames hockey organization and the Calgary Stampede.

The announcement to replace the 36-year-old Scotiabank Saddledome was made on social media by Coun. Jeff Davison.

In the agreement, the Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation, which owns the Flames, and the City of Calgary will equally split the cost of the $550-million facility.

The 35-year deal also keeps the Flames in Calgary for that time.

The project is part of a revitalization plan for the east side of downtown.

Construction on the 19,000-seat arena is expected to begin in 2021 just north of where the Saddledome currently sits.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published Dec. 5, 2019.

Read a article by Wayne Scanlan about how the Senators 'rebuild' season is going as planned. He also made reference to the Detroit Red Wings and how ideally it would be if they lost every game by one goal, kept competitive but achieved the goal of increasing their chances for acquiring a number 1 draft pick. You can't have both Wayne, keeping competitive but hoping to lose. And is everyone on board with this? The GM, the coaches, the players?

Again, I very much dislike this mindset bordering on hate. I get it, I understand why it would make sense big picture, but these articles by certain hockey experts really frustrate the the heck out of me.  You play  and live in the now when it comes competitive sport not playing for things to materialize years down the road with the 'you'll thank me later' patronizing approach.

Imagine a GM selling this to his fanbase?  If this is what the Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings were hoping to do this season as a fan of the team I want every thing half price for this season.

Nenshi just isn't a big sports guy... But... He is a smart guy. He understands this isn't about just sports. It's about attracting world class events and about being a world class city, so you need world class facilities.

It does sound like both sides moved from their original positions - at least on paper...

plus part of the govt dollars involved demolishing the saddledome which they would have had to pay for anyway
