Streveler had almost a full half against the RB's to show his stuff when Nichols went down,  in the time allotted he did not move the team within Medlock's 50 yard range.  The only way he got near the endzone was when Lankford fumbled the punt inside the RB's 10.  I don't blame Streveler, it's LaPo who has turned him into a knockoff of Dan LeFevour.

Here’s the thing. It wouldn’t surprise me at all to see Lapo institute a gimmicky gameplan with minimal downfield passing but what would be the point? Streveler has four starts and is in his second season, if he can’t run the full playbook with a few extra plays mixed in to highlight his legs then we have bigger problems than just the next 6-8 weeks. If you don’t have confidence the guy can run that offence, then what’s the point in having him as your backup QB? Granted, this is all jumping to conclusions without any evidence that it will be a condensed playbook but it’s far from out of the realm of possibility. 

Beyond that, I can’t see this scenario as anything other than a win-win. If Streveler either struggles or puts up similar numbers to Nichols, you put Nichols back in and you reevaluate the QB spot after the season. If he excels, you have to at least assume that the struggles of the offence had at least something to do with Nichols and you consider moving on after the season. While you don’t want to give games away, the team has a cushion to play with and getting Streveler meaningful reps now could come in VERY handy late in the year.

The  one thing our receivers are going to have to adjust to is the velocity of Streveler's passes vs. Nichols.   Streveler's are going to be coming in hot and the receivers need to be ready.  We might see some passes go right thru the hands until the receivers can adjust.

Exactly...we know the Schmoes are gonna stack the box..prob have any where from 5-8 guys in the box and bring the heat..make Strev beat them with his arm while trying to neutralize Harris.

How we combat that is lots of misdirection..moving the pocket..and roll outs..that's how u spread that scheme and nullify their pass rush..they wont ignore it or they will get burned...a healthy mix of that..some in the pocket work and use and then threat of wildcat..will leave room for a lot of options.

With Strev in there just run an offence with no gimmicks..they aren't needed with a Srrev style QB..his freaky ability and knack for getting yards himself is gimmick enough.

Be a different scenario with Strev in all the way, running a full (we hope) O package.   At least we can figure out, what we actually have with him.  OL blocks for runs, pretty well...if we can maintain a two headed run threat.....then play action, options, hybrid motion sets, and some other change ups may work.   All in the hands of the guy pulling the trigger, though.

Streveler is darn mobile and a dangerous runner... very effective on QB draws, boots and picking up chunky gains from a broken pocket... not a creative runner, but very effective... rushed for over 1500 yards and scored 20 ground TDs combined last 2 seasons... makes a terrific RPO pro prospect but needs quality NFL QB coaching... a good coach can create a winner here using that lightning release and athletic make-up.

Benefit of the doubt. He hasn't had regular first team reps for almost a year. I would say he knows the playbook but Lapo is going to need to put some faith into him to let him throw. Geez, even let him throw screens and we should be okay.

Zero chance we bring in someone with zero knowledge of the offense and who has not been staying active.     Maybe they bring in Kevin Glenn as a 3rd stringer for veteran presence for the two young guys.  No way he would start.

Lulay would be the best option, IMO, but only if he passes a physical. God knows, he would have the protection of the best O-line in the CFL and the best he has had since he came into the league.
