Nichols, Harris, Bighill, Bryant, Jefferson, Nevis was a fairly high NFL pick.

I considered bighill but it was one year down south wasnt it? Nichols and jefferson kinda mid tier. Any one in the NFL for a year is making a couple years worth of jeffersons salary + bonus money and a year of nichols. Id wager the amount lucky has made in football makes 98% of the rest of the team look like they work for peanuts.

First time poster. Go easy.

Disappointed with how it worked out with Matthews to be honest and curious about the due diligence related to signing a player to a three year deal and a hefty signing bonus. Seems there should be some accountability for what appears to have been a huge error. It's only money and the Bombers have plenty so maybe no big deal.

Would think Ted G. or Danny Mac would have been the guys involved although Kyle Walters must have signed off on it. Hopefully they did more than just watch last years Grey Cup before backing up the truck full of money.

Derel Walker wouldn't have done any better with the offence the Bombers run.

On the radio they had said that Kyle Walters and Chris Matthews had a good relationship and was a big reason on why he signed with the Blue.   I'm not sure where other people are getting that Chris had no other options.

The Blue Bomber offense. Where CFL receivers come to die.

Exactly, now if  some Bomber fans could just stop pining for the most expensive receivers money can buy, it's delusional to think they would be a good fit in this offence.  Doesn't matter which superstar receiver Walters signs,  they'll never get their monies worth of production out of him and he'll end up looking like a bum.  Better off keeping Darvin happy and picking the rest up from Eaton's downtown basement.  To quote my Grandma, "It's not perfect but it's good enough!"

Meth heads are way to tweaky to block properly in our offense.

No significant signing bonus, 3 year contract means nothing as contracts aren't guaranteed.  No truck full of money for Matthews.

Team is 8-2.  What accountability do you want?

Or that he has a limited conversational range.

WJ was a player I hoped would play in green til he was done ,

But,  now he's a Bomber, so what a bastage

Always great with fans , pleasant guy

However would not want to be the fellow shaking his hand saying " you the one with the limited conversational range?" 😉

Part of being a receiver is getting open. If you aren't you help out in other ways. My guess is Walker would have been an upgrade on Matthews just because he'd be more involved in other ways. Honestly was stoked about CM signing here. In Hindsight tho, it didnt work out. Some ppl called it when he signed that he wasnt a fit for the lapo dink and dunk O. They were right. Ill admit i was wrong.. Thought he'd be more of a factor but damn.. Dude was invisible. Honestly when you think what will CM be remembered for this time around? La Rocha. That's sad. So much talent there.. 6 5 235 ish.. Monster.. Should have put up bigger numbers... Didnt. Seemed disinterested at times. Sad.

Yeah, the fact he is the size of a big WLB and was subbed out for every heavy set was sad. Mathews isnt the guy who will blow past and be wide open alot, cfl defenses are designed to prevent that these days. Hes the type to make contested catches and push through db tackles. And in our system, its going to be extremely rare for a guy to run open. Dbs can cheat and watch the qb since we arent going to actually toss deep often. They can afford to give up a step we arent going to call them on a tight window deep shot.

It's all good.

Probably had no options left and had to take whatever the Bombers offered given the last minute signing.

Pretty much. Seemed like he over valued him self on the open market and after waiting we came together for a low risk high reward move. Didnt work out, and nows the best time to move on.

From a bang-for-buck standpoint as far as the SMS goes, this release makes sense.

If he wasn't making big dollars and without a signing bonus it probably only saves $50,000 at the most. Suppose it all adds up though.

That seems like something that wouldn't have taken too much digging to discover before signing him. Best to have nipped it in the bud though if that was the case.

When you combine that with a more than average amount of 6 game injury list savings and its a nice safety net if they need a player or two down the stretch after NFL cuts.

Was likely earning 100-150k imo. As speedflex pointed out between his time on the IR and release we probably save about half his contract, so yeah 50-75k. Which is about 1 first year contract for an imp. Put together a couple savings, like if nichols misses 6 games, nuefeld probably on the ir all year etc and we probably will save an easy 200k.

We’re giving ourselves enough flexibility to sign NFL guys if a fit is there.

This is the same receivers coach who cut Collins Jr. and Stafford, excuse me if I don't have full confidence in this decision. Looks more like a move by a desperate coach who has no answers for the passing game, again, not the first time either for this guy but we were stupid enough to hire him again.
