Augustine is a small less athletic Olivera. And Olivera may not be a starter after Harris leaves. shadybob 1

While he isn't explosive by any means it's not sustainable. To proclaim him any thing other then what he is a stop gap is a huge leap. Saw too many poor runs. He will be the back up as we don't have any one else, the only time he might get more touches is if we sit the starters in the last game. He isn't spelling Harris based on the last two games or otherwise.

Floyd Posted September 8, 2019 Report Posted September 8, 2019 Oliviera has rushed for zero yards and caught zero passes this year... we're pumped about him because he's from Winnipeg - that is all. I'm cheering for him but he's a forum favourite and has proven absolutely nothing. shadybob and Tracker 2
17to85 Posted September 8, 2019 Report Posted September 8, 2019 Yeah some people are selling Augustine a bit short. He played pretty well. Harris is just one of the best backs in the league so comparing to him is silly. shadybob and wpgallday1960 2
Eternal optimist Posted September 8, 2019 Report Posted September 8, 2019 Yeah, people seem to forget that Augustine had a very respectable game yesterday (16 carries for 75 yards, 4.7 yards per carry average) against SSK's run D, which was ranked 3rd in the league coming in yards given up per game (91.1 yards per game)... only teams better at stopping the run is CAL (89.5 yards per game) and us (69.2 yards per game) shadybob and Mark F 2
Booch Posted September 8, 2019 Report Posted September 8, 2019 Yeah..in 2 games with our backups we have rushed for 341 yards versus their great run defence...shows you what they are when they play a good team Cgy to put 130 yards on them..that defence are total pretenders yet act like they are dominant...fools.... shadybob and GCJenks 2

Thus, he has to often pause when being handed the ball. This will come with playing time. We do not know his ceiling but he has been adequate at the very least. Fatty Liver and Eternal optimist 2
Fatty Liver Posted September 8, 2019 Report Posted September 8, 2019 (edited) I wouldn't sell Augustine short, TSN mentioned some of his achievements in other sports, can't find a list of them but they were quite impressive. That indicates he has the attitude to excel at whatever he chooses to do. Go Johnny go! Just found this. https://www.johnnyaugustinefitness.com/about Edited September 8, 2019 by Throw Long Bannatyne

Were pumped about him because he had a very good NCAA d1 career, is a big power back with very good athletic numbers. Augustine had how many rushes and catches before this year? Literally 100s of better backs have 0 touches in the cfl south of the border. If not 1000s. Anthony coombs had way more touches then augustine and while we kicked the tires on coombs we stuck with augustine. Coombs has more potential but zero chance to stay healthy. 11 carries for 3 yards or less in 2 games. 4 for 10 yards or more. 1 in the last game. Minus the 1 outlier run of 55 yards in the LDC and he has 118 yards on 27 carries for 4.3 yards. 15 hours ago, Tracker said: And Augustine does not have the reps/experience to read blocking with the same fluidity that Harris has. Thats something you learn in college and HS. Not in the pros. Teams have tried to teach the likes of trent richardson how to read blocking at the pro level it just doesnt work. You can improve it, but you cant teach it. Just like a qb reading the D. You can help them grow and improve but a player bad at reading the field in the pros will never be good-great at it. Adequate yes. I would say hes almost exactly replacement level. We could plug nearly any pro RB in his place and get the same production. He doesn't hit the hole with any authority, he is indecisive with the ball, lacks significant power or speed when running. He is a tough kid, and a secure ball handler. You cant expect more from a 3rd string NI rb. Hes as good running the ball as lafrance was. Id take Normand back in a heart beat for the blocking and teams play alone. Noeller and JCon 2

Whereas reading the blocking is taught at the college level, Augustine is not as familiar with the tendencies of the hogs up front as Harris was and that will cause him to pause on occasion. Think of what happens when a member of the O-line is replaced as happened with Speller and Desjarlais. That appeared to throw Harris off a bit. Augustine may not be an all-star but so far he has exceeded expectations. ddanger and Fatty Liver 1 1
