Tracker Posted March 31, 2022 Report Posted March 31, 2022 U.K. Spy Chief Says Russian Military Is a Bloody Mess, Shot Down Own Plane -Getty Vladimir Putin “massively misjudged the situation” in ordering the invasion of Ukraine and surely knows just how poorly things are going for Russian forces even though his closest advisers are hiding the truth from him, according to the head of Britain’s spy services. In a speech at the Australian National University in Canberra on Thursday morning, GCHQ director Sir Jeremy Fleming said the Russian leader’s “unprovoked and premeditated attack on Ukraine” has been “shocking in every sense of the word.” He also said Putin, a former KGB officer, was caught completely flat-footed by what he found. “It’s clear he misjudged the resistance of the Ukrainian people,” Fleming said. “He underestimated the strength of the coalition his actions would galvanize. He underplayed the economic consequences of the sanctions regime. He overestimated the abilities of his military to secure a rapid victory. We’ve seen Russian soldiers—short of weapons and morale—refusing to carry out orders, sabotaging their own equipment and even accidentally shooting down their own aircraft.”
blue_gold_84 Posted March 31, 2022 Report Posted March 31, 2022 https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/ukraine-march31-2022-1.6403422 Quote A Ukrainian official says that at least one person has been killed and four others have been wounded in the Russian shelling of a humanitarian convoy. Ukrainian Human Rights Commissioner Lyudmyla Denisova said those who came under the shelling on Thursday were volunteers accompanying a convoy of buses sent to the northern city of Chernihiv to evacuate residents. She said that the Russian forces besieging Chernihiv have made it impossible to evacuate civilians from the city that has been cut from food, water and other supplies. The Russian shelling continued two days after Moscow announced it would scale back military operations around Kyiv and Chernihiv. NATO's chief said on Thursday this was a regrouping rather than a withdrawal. Tracker 1
Tracker Posted April 1, 2022 Report Posted April 1, 2022 Ukraine Strike On Russian Territory Reported As Peace Talks Resume KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Talks to stop the fighting in Ukraine resumed Friday, as another attempt to rescue civilians from the besieged port city of Mariupol broke down and Russia accused the Ukrainians of launching a cross-border helicopter attack on an oil depot. The governor of Russia’s Belgorod region said the alleged airstrike by a pair of helicopter gunships caused multiple fires and injured two people. A Kremlin spokesman said the incident on Russia’s territory could undermine the negotiations between Russian and Ukrainian representatives. “Certainly, this is not something that can be perceived as creating comfortable conditions for the continuation of the talks,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov replied when asked if the strike could be viewed as an escalation of the war in Ukraine. It was not immediately possible to verify the claim that Ukrainian helicopters targeted the oil depot or several nearby businesses in Belgorod also reported hit. Russia has reported shelling from Ukraine before, including an incident last week that killed a military chaplain, but not an incursion of its airspace. https://www.huffpost.com/entry/russia-ukraine-war-chernobyl_n_62469696e4b068157f754a88

He'll be treated like a statesman once this war ends. Especially by the GOP in the US. On 2022-04-01 at 1:06 PM, JCon said: Can't wait to see these war criminals in jail. There have been hundreds of such events in the last hundred years, the US killed an estimated 151,000 civilians in Iraq and 71,000 more in Afghanistan within the last 20 years alone, and that's just a WAG as they can't be bothered to keep track or report the actual body count. What for and why? Ukraine is just the flavour of the day. War crimes??? I still can't figure out why dropping a bomb out of an aeroplane is not considered a war crime, and yet humans have been doing it regularly for over a hundred years. I find the bombing of Hamburg during WW2 to be particularly disturbing as I had 2 uncles that participated in these raids. As part of a sustained campaign of strategic bombing during World War II, the attack during the last week of July 1943, code named Operation Gomorrah, created one of the largest firestorms raised by the Royal Air Force and United States Army Air Forces in World War II,[2] killing an estimated 37,000 civilians and wounding 180,000 more in Hamburg, and virtually destroying most of the city. Hamburg was selected as a target because it was considered particularly susceptible to attack with incendiaries, which, from the experience of the Blitz, were felt to inflict more damage than just high explosive bombs. Hamburg also contained a high number of targets supporting the German war effort and was relatively easy for navigators to find. Careful research was done on behalf of both the RAF and USAAF to discover the optimum mix of high explosives and incendiaries. Before the development of the firestorm in Hamburg, there had been no rain for some time and everything was very dry.[3] The unusually warm weather and good conditions ensured that the bombing was highly concentrated around the intended targets, and helped the resulting conflagration create a vortex and whirling updraft of super-heated air which became a 460 meter high tornado of fire. Sure sounds like the pre-meditated murder of civilians. Lots more grisly details to be found here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bombing_of_Hamburg_in_World_War_II

Tracker Posted April 4, 2022 Report Posted April 4, 2022 Ukraine Seizes Control of Key Northeastern Border Area From Russia The Ukrainian armed forces claimed a psychologically and strategically important victory in their counterattack against Russia Monday, saying the country’s northeastern border with Russia, in the Sumy region, is once again under Ukrainian control. According to Ukrainian website zn.ua, Serhiy Bratchuk, a spokesperson for the Odessa Military Administration, said: “The state border of Ukraine in the Sumy region is under the control of the Armed Forces!” Ukrainian officials have been saying for several days that “Russian invaders” were leaving the area, which some analysts believe marks a change of strategy by Russia as it seeks to concentrate its military might on the east of the country. https://www.thedailybeast.com/ukraine-seizes-control-of-key-northeastern-border-area-from-russia?ref=home
