I actually didn't mind the call. They only needed 1 yard for a first down, 2 for a TD. They'd been running the ball down BC's throat all game long. If they score the FG, they give the ball back to BC with a minute left to score a FG and they know something about coming back in the last minute of games.

The execution of the play was horrible though.

deception play with Stanback in the backfield probably would have fared a little better.  There was no disguising what was about that happen on that play!

And with Shiltz having run the ball just fine all game, why Pipkin comes in was a head scratcher too!

The play call wasn't the problem. If Pipkin just gets the ball and falls forward, they get the first down and the win. The problem was the exchange of the snap, which should have been automatic.

Obviously The Great Pumpkin was extremely nervous when he came in & screwed up. Needing just a yard it should have been a foregone conclusion. There are a lot of qbs who don't like short yardage. They don't want any part of the physicality of the position.  Some, like Chris Streveler embrace it & others don't.  I remember watching Dom Davis being tentative as a short yardage qb with the Bombers. He didn't like the contact. Pipkin seems to be another. However, if that's the role on their team then they have to put their fears aside & just do it.  Looks like Khari should have kept Schilz in to get that first down. Big mistake.
