Not only did he start the first month for us last year but they've worked in a whole extra series of plays just for him during games where he's not the starter. It's absurd to day he hasn't been given enough reps... Yeah, he's had more reps than a lot of backups. Other QBs like Arbuckle and Evans have had success while having a small amount of game experience prior to this season. People complain that Streveler wasn't given reps when Nichols was starting and now it's McGuire whose not getting experience at the end of games. The reality is most teams don't put in their backups unless there is an injury. Edited October 14, 2019 by WinnipegGordo

Imagine pulling Nichols when we're up comfortably on to have the game slip away? Absolute carnage. There would be a riot... a small one, but a riot nonetheless. I don't understand this comment... Nichols doesn't play defence Mark H. 1

How do you know he doesn't come in and throw for 2 touchdowns and run for another and we win in a rout? Well, in this specific example, he didn't. But, if the Bombers can drop 21 points in the fourth quarter with our starter, it's no wonder that coaches (across the league) are reluctant to send in their back-up QB, even when it looks like the game is well in hand.

Nichols would not be on the field when the defence is giving up the 21 points..... and during the fourth quarter if Nichols was not producing any points when he was on the field, and the other team kept getting the score closer, then yeh maybe it is time for the backup QB to get a series to see if he could spark the offence and get some points to stay ahead.

So, in the Montreal game, you wanted Streveler pulled in favour of McGuire in the fourth quarter?

They could have given him a series in the last few minutes probably. Even if it's just to hand off the ball and run out the clock. Gotta start somewhere.

With the better QBs in the league your point is likely valid. However, Nichols is an even better 2-and-out machine than Streveler is. At least Streveler can run for a first down despite Lapo's crappy play calling. Tracker, Bigblue204 and JCon 1 1 1
