It is a sad commentary on humans that there is never a lack of predators willing to traffic on human fear and misery. Alex Jones (he of Infowars) and disgraced evangelist Jimmy Bakker have both been advertising "cures" for the COVID19 illness and have been warned to stop immediately or face criminal prosecution.

It may be helpful to distinguish between pandemic and epidemic. A "pandemic" means that it is widespread, whereas "epidemic" means intense and localized.

pandemic doesn't only refer to death rate. But the overall spread of infection. Because this has now gone World wide. It's fair to call it a pandemic.

I saw that on Twitter this morning. I was going to post. "Are you trying to give Lapo a heart attack? That really looks like you pulled  Nichols..."

I decided not to feed the twitter trolls, it's a joke. Not trying to disparage Nichols at but in these times we have to look for humour when we can.

This comment aged well. Amazing what can happen in a week with a newly evolved virus in such an interconnected world.

Just for reference, the WHO defines a pandemic as "the worldwide spread of a new (novel) disease," such as a virus. In the case of the rapid global spread of COVID-19, the WHO was being diligent and proactive in its application of the term pandemic. As we've seen over the last seven days, what most experts predicted is exactly what's happened.
