Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Calvin Ridley has been suspended indefinitely through the conclusion of the 2022 season for gambling on NFL games during the 2021 season, commissioner Roger Goodell announced on Monday.

How stupid do you have to be to throw away a multi-million dollar a year job so that you can gamble on your own league? The idiot could have bet on the NHL, NBA, MLB, WNBA, soccer, auto racing and so forth. This guy has a financial death wish.

Gambling is another form of addiction, and if you crave winning that much, you will bet on what you know. Hardly the first player to have issues with gambling, won’t be the last. Not sure if is “stupidity” or “immaturity” or a “life of entitlement” that makes pro athletes do this sometimes.

I have dealt with compulsive gamblers, and for some, their mania is such that they will bet on anything- even which elevator door will open first. There were so many other licit gambling options open to him, that it took a special kind of stupid arrogance for him to bet on his own league and imperial his very comfortable income. I would think that every player who comes into any professional league has had the riot act about gambling read out to him/her in great detail. He got what he chose and has no reason to feel victimized, which he probably does.

I encourage you to watch the now old but still relevant ESPN special about retired black athletes and how/why so many of them are bankrupt within ten years after they retire.   You have to remember that lots of these guys just can't handle going from broke to super rich.

That documentary was just not about black athletes Bernie Kosar was one of the main focuses along with Lenny Dykstra

I don't recall that one.  I recall the 30 for 30 called Broke which dealt with how athletes of all races often go bankrupt.

Now you've gone and ruined the point he was trying to make.

The one I saw was like from 10 years ago and talked about how something like 80% of black athletes go broke within 10 years of retirement.  It's mostly because of life style and going from rag to riches.   It's the opposite in hockey (with the few exceptions) because most of these kids come from middle/upper class families and have a much different upbringing.

This is why you see sometimes crazy **** like Micheal Vick or the many pro boxers who just go bankrupt because they are taken advantage of by scummy promoters and/or other leeches who suck the money out of them.

It's far better these days since most of the big leagues have financial advisors who help the players prevent blowing money or being taken advantage of.

Doctors have diagnosed Schlichter with Parkinson's disease and dementia—the side effects of numerous concussions (between 15 and 17, depending on the source) suffered over 20 years of football at the junior high, high school, college and professional levels.

That guy?

That guy?

Well, that could be but he has spent many years in jail. He was a highjly touted qb from Ohio State. He destroyed his career because of gambling. He lost his football career in the NFL & CFL, all his money, his savings, family & turned to a life of crime.

Billionaire Terry Pegula Gets $850 Million Subsidy for New Buffalo Bills Stadium

In another sweet deal for a billionaire, the Buffalo Bills announced an agreement on Monday to build a $1.4 billion new stadium, with $850 million of those funds coming from New York State and Erie County. The deal includes a 30-year commitment from the team to stay in Buffalo. The Bills’ owner, oil and gas billionaire Terry Pegula, is worth $5.8 billion, according to Forbes. New York Gov. Kathy Hochul defended the arrangement in a statement, arguing that “the project will create 10,000 union jobs and New Yorkers can rest assured that their investment will be recouped by the economic activity the team generates.” New York will own the new stadium and will lease it to the Bills.
