Isn’t there also caveat that as long as the player hasn’t played Highschool football in the States...?

Not anymore. That was from the days of non-import and import CBAs.

Certain NFL teams really like looking at CFL free agents. NYG, PHI and MIA come to mind.

Not so much the last couple seasons but the Saints also seem to keep on eye on Canada.

as long as the players are over 6' tall. 🤣

Well they did sign Biggie who is 5'10... they should have kept him too but we benefited from that poor decision so I'm OK with it!

I think that was the joke......Biggie was pretty upset that he wasn't kept down there, and I believe he said the fact that he wasn't 6' tall was one of the main reasons he was let go.

Thanks, I don't think I ever heard that from Biggie... makes sense though because he definitely performed well enough to earn a spot.

He did some kinda podcast thing with 3DN awhile back and just went off about his experience, which didn't end well... Dropped a pile of truth.

Just goes to show that the skill gap from cfl to nfl isn’t as big as people think. The idea that everyone in the nfl is better then everyone in the cfl is silly. Nfl Is a politic driven league

Have they announced the date for the Impeach bowl yet?

November 3rd is what I heard. The day they get to use their right to vote 🤷‍♂️😂

The AVERAGE skill in import players is actually probably relatively close.  Average TEAM skill will have a greater disparity due to the fact that, on average, NATL players in the CFL are less skilled (because they are being chosen from a smaller talent pool).

Finally, the area IMO where the skill disparity is the MOST SIGNIFICANT is in the "Elite" players.  The fact is that the Hall of Fame quality NFL players are fairly significantly more skilled than equivalent Hall of Fame quality CFL players. There are some exceptions, of course, where an athlete who would have been a hall of famer NFL player ends up in the CFL due to politics and never heads south... but I'd say that's the exception rather than the rule.

I would also argue that the CFL probably has an edge in player skill for "unusually dimensioned" athletes (i.e. short middle linebackers) due to the fact that the CFL is less political in giving guys with good college histories who don't match up well with NFL expectations a shot.

Totally agree! I just get sick of hearing that the cfl is trash because it’s not the nfl.

This is probably the best description I've ever read... Spot on.

The skill level/competition is very comparable, and people who think otherwise don't have a clue..many a former, and current player has even said so. The elite skilled guys are the best of the best in the NFL..receiver, running backs, cover guys, line backers...no question about that, but each team has maybe one or two of the elite, the 2nd..3rd..stringers..back-up guys are very comparable and a lot of the elite CFL guys are better, but don't fit the "standard" that NFL views

Also the CFL requires a more athletic player, and one who is versatile...roster's don't allow for a 2 down back, a run stopping DT...etc..etc, and a guy who would excel at his certain specialized role in the NFL could not play in Canada, and a lot of guys who play in Canada could play down south, but don't meet the eye test, can't get over the Draft hurdle where a team has already invested dollars in a guy and even though he may be inferior to a CFL free-agent...won't get a true chance, teams can only carry so much "dead money" against their cap and a guy who gets snipped who signed a big bonus..well usually a portion/percentage is paid upfront, the rest is alloted over 5 years, and if a guy is cut, that dead money is all paid out at once, and as it is actually guaranteed money owed the player, and will screw a teams cap...so there are a lot of things against CFL stars going down there basically preventing them of sticking...among the politics of the NFL

Oddly enough a guy who was up here..KD Cannon got one of the larger bonuses for a free-agent signee..45k....only 5k of it was the actual "bonus" the rest was dead guaranteed money in the form of salary if they make the team, so when he got the snips there he was paid out against the cap..teams do this to allow themselves to bring in more camp bodies under their i think 94k or so amount they are allowed to use for free agent signing bonuses, so in a guy like Willies case I can see him getting no real legit offer worth his while because no team is gonna offer much in the case he doesn't cut it, and then be on the hook for his guaranteed portion of his bonus which affects their cap

Things down there are moreso due to cash..draft...and business...not necessarily true talent...Look at Cleveland right now..playing a D-Tackle we cut...Montreal cut...but is a down and distance specialist down there right now...

Man I always loves Booch's analysis of stuff, half of it goes right over my head but it's always a good read!

As for Jefferson and others trying out for NFL teams this time of year... it's really all upside for them, no? I mean, short of getting injured, they get to continue playing/developing/learning, likely play somewhere warmer (like Miami) and at the end of the day, hopefully, get paid to play the game they love. Not only that, if any of them do get cut, most of them know they can come back to the CFL, especially big name guys like Jefferson, which adds a bit of stability and predictability to their employment prospects. Which, to my understanding is a rare (and valued) commodity in professional sports

Here is a question for you Booch you have to pick 10 guys from the NFL to play in CFL who are they? Any position.
