JCon Posted October 26, 2020 Report Posted October 26, 2020 Obviously, I'm biased, folks, but I don't see anyone taking the Grey Cup from us this year. No one can beat us. blue_gold_84, Wanna-B-Fanboy and rebusrankin 3
Noeller Posted October 26, 2020 Report Posted October 26, 2020 No idea where to put this, but incredibly sad news out of the CFL, as David Braley has passed away. The man (and his $$$) saved the CFL multiple times over. bustamente, rebusrankin, blue_gold_84 and 2 others 1 2 2
Mr Dee Posted October 26, 2020 Report Posted October 26, 2020 Unfortunate news indeed. Love him or hate him, he did way more for the CFL that we’ll ever know. CodyT, rebusrankin, Noeller and 4 others 4 3
JCon Posted October 26, 2020 Report Posted October 26, 2020 The CFL has relied on owners like Braley and Young, along with the community based teams forever. To be an owner of a CFL team, you need to willing to lose money sometimes and reinvest any surpluses back into the club. You must love the CFL or you won't last. Braley loved the CFL. Mr Dee Posted October 26, 2020 Report Posted October 26, 2020 It would have been interesting to have a sit down with D. Braley and discuss his passion for the CFL game and the reasons he did what he did. It’s such a “CFL” kind of story and I would have loved to be in on it. Bigblue204 and rebusrankin 2
Wanna-B-Fanboy Posted October 26, 2020 Report Posted October 26, 2020 Agreed, his passion for CFL supported two teams and enriched every fan's CFL experience. He will be missed. Bigblue204 1

rebusrankin Posted October 26, 2020 Report Posted October 26, 2020 There's not a CFL today without Braley. Bigblue204, TBURGESS and Mr Dee 3
Noeller Posted October 26, 2020 Report Posted October 26, 2020 I read a thing today (Naylor, maybe?) where, apparently, the Lions were about to fold, and CBC (the CFLs only broadcaster) was apparently going to stop broadcasting if there was no team in BC, so someone from the government went to Braley and told him about it, and that's how he jumped in to help them out the first time.... 17to85 Posted October 26, 2020 Report Posted October 26, 2020 Wow much as I am not a fan of how he ran his teams that's a big loss for the CFL. Bigblue204 1
SpeedFlex27 Posted October 27, 2020 Report Posted October 27, 2020 Sad to hear. Yeah, he loved the CFL for sure. It'll be interesting to see what happens to the Lions now.

Apparently one of his last wishes, after he realized he was dying, was to make sure there was a smooth transition of ownership of the Lions. I think it was Lalacheur or someone that said it. Said they'll be working with the estate to make sure that everything goes smoothly. SpeedFlex27 1

Noeller Posted October 27, 2020 Report Posted October 27, 2020 Sounded like there were various offers over the last few years, but Braley didn't think he was getting a fair deal, so he wouldn't let go. I'm not sure what the new owners will be like, but I'd bet we see a new, local owner in BC pretty quickly. Mr Dee 1
TBURGESS Posted October 27, 2020 Report Posted October 27, 2020 I doubt anyone is buying the Lions right away. Too many questions right now. We don't even know if we'll have a season next year. JCon 1
Wanna-B-Fanboy Posted October 27, 2020 Report Posted October 27, 2020 (edited) Was this week the Bye week last year, before we went on that Magical tear for the Grey Cup....? I am going to rewatch each of those games on their corresponding anniversary. Damn, I miss Bomber football. Edited October 27, 2020 by wanna-b-fanboy
Noeller Posted October 27, 2020 Report Posted October 27, 2020 I think I've watched every win from last year at least a half dozen times so far. I'm glad I have them on the PVR, but at the same time it's really depressing. I love CFL football so much more than any other sport... Bigblue204, Mr Dee, JCon and 1 other 4

Sure it makes sense for the nucks to buy them, its pennies to them any way. I wonder if it makes more sense though to move the lions to the other side of the fraser river(or to burnaby or the coq). I dont feel like any thing can make the lions draw decent crowds in VC.
Noeller Posted November 3, 2020 Report Posted November 3, 2020 Nucks owners have said they are not interested in buying the Lions at this time.... wbbfan 1
