You change minds by making people realize for themselves that they are idiots. To realize that you are wrong is not enough. You must be willing to accept that realization, and acknowledge it. That requires humility and self-effacement. The current occupant of the White House provides exactly the opposite model. So many of his lies are so simply disproven (“my inauguration was the biggest ever” - “here are pictures and mass transit data easily and unequivocally disproving that” - “fake news”) and yet he brazenly and with blind confidence doubles down every time. And he is admired by many for that characteristic. THAT is the difficulty in changing minds today, people’s egos are too caught up in their positions to admit they are wrong, and on the flip side too many who want to prove them wrong do it to feel a sense of superiority over others and hold it over them, rather than to genuinely embrace knowledge and lead to more enlightenment. The us vs. them mindset prevents a lot of opportunity for increased awareness and learning. IMO. Edited October 20, 2020 by TrueBlue4ever Tracker and Sard 1 1

bustamente Posted October 21, 2020 Report Posted October 21, 2020 No surprise really with the explosion in cases, experts expected a second wave and that it would worse that the first go around, sure we could of done more but people want their freedom and let their guard down so we find ourselves with pockets of new cases day after day, this will not change anytime soon. There is only one way to bring down the levels to a couple of cases here or there but I don't think there is any stomach for a total shutdown by the government or general public. JCon 1

blue_gold_84 Posted October 23, 2020 Report Posted October 23, 2020 https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/trudeau-vaccine-rapid-tests-1.5774309 Quote Prime Minister Justin Trudeau today announced another contract to buy a promising COVID-19 vaccine now in development — part of a plan to secure millions of vaccine doses to inoculate Canadians from the novel coronavirus. Trudeau said the government has signed a contract to procure 76 million doses from the Quebec City-biotech company Medicago. If the vaccine also performs well in a clinical setting, the companies are on track to make it available in the first half of 2021. Medicago has said it has the manufacturing capacity to produce as many as 100 million doses in 2021. Trudeau also detailed the government's plan to deploy rapid tests throughout the country — devices that health experts say could lessen the burden on lab-based testing in this country as cases continue to climb. Trudeau said trucks full of Abbott Laboratories' Panbio COVID-19 Rapid Test devices are out today distributing tens of thousands of tests to the provinces and territories.
