Public health officials advise the 49th and 50th deaths due to COVID-19 have been reported, both females in their 70s from the Winnipeg health region. Both cases were previously announced, and one is linked to an outbreak at Misericordia Place.

Today, 153 new cases of the virus have been identified as of 9:30 a.m. This number of lab-confirmed cases in Manitoba to 4,088.

Today’s data shows:

• eight cases in the Prairie Mountain Health region;
• 15 cases in the Interlake-Eastern health region;
• 15 cases in the Northern health region;
• 24 cases in the Southern Health-Santé Sud health region; and
• 91 cases in the Winnipeg health region.

The data also shows:

• 1,922 active cases and 2,116 individuals who have recovered from COVID-19;
• there are 65 people in hospital and 10 people in intensive care; and
• the number of deaths due to COVID-19 is 50.

Public health officials advise four deaths due to COVID-19 have been reported from the Winnipeg region, including:

• a male in his 50s;
• a female in her 90s, linked to an outbreak at Parkview Place;
• a female in her 80s; and
• a male in his 70s, linked to an outbreak at Parkview Place.

The current five-day COVID-19 test positivity rate is 6.9 per cent and161 new cases of the virus have been identified as of 9:30 a.m.This brings the number of lab-confirmed cases in Manitoba to 4,249.

Today’s data shows:

• 10 cases in the Interlake-Eastern health region;
• seven cases in the Northern health region;
• four cases in the Prairie Mountain Health region;
• 30 cases in the Southern Health-Santé Sud health region; and
• 110 cases in the Winnipeg health region.

The data also shows:

• 2,053 active cases and 2,142 individuals who have recovered from COVID-19;
• there are 77 people in hospital and 15 people in intensive care; and
• the number of deaths due to COVID-19 is 54.

Laboratory testing numbers show 2,362 tests were completed on Friday and an additional 2,252 on Saturday, bringing the total number of lab tests completed since early February to 240,639. Case investigations continue and if a public health risk is identified, the public will be notified.

Outbreaks have been declared at Swan Valley Health Centre and Swan Valley Lodge Personal Care Home in Swan River, and both sites have been moved to Critical (Red) on the Pandemic Response System. Additional precautions are being taken at the health centre, and visitor restrictions are being put in place at the personal care home.

Public health officials are advising a person who has tested positive for COVID-19 attended a funeral in Norway House on Oct. 20^th when they did not have symptoms but was in their infectious period. Public health officials will be notifying close contacts directly. Others who have attended the funeral should self-monitor for symptoms. If symptoms develop, people should self-isolate and seek testing.

The Superintendent for Pembina Trails told the Trustees last Thursday that October 26th was only a suggestion for implementing 2 meter distancing and they were targeting November 2nd for implementation. Of course, they have no plan. They've been without one for the past 7 months. It befuddles them. 

 

They sent out a survey for parents asking if we would prefer in-class or remote learning. If we chose remote learning, we wouldn't have the option to go back into class until we were out of orange. The survey wasn't working on Friday but they fixed in on Sunday. 

Given how bad remote learning was in spring, we've opted for the in-class. If, we choose, we can still pull them. 

As of now, there have been zero changes in school my kids go to.  I'll wait to hear back from my kids tonight if they experienced any changes.

They have no plan.

Masks were mandated by the province, not the school board.

The sanitizer has been there, which is good.

Cohorts have been a mess and have been changing. That, of course, was mandated by the province, not the school board. 

Basic cleaning. Not really extra, which is also mandated.

 

Other School Boards have come up with plans and implemented them. 

 

Without level orange, our school has indoor band. They were preparing covers for some of the wind instruments. You must take band in grade 6 and no one is spaced more than a meter apart. 

 

They said they need some time to develop a plan. They've had seven months and still don't have one. No one has selected remote learning because they can't and won't communicate what this will mean.

I need to add, with respect, that our board leadership has been very poor on lots of issues over the past few years. Our superintendent should have been out several years ago. 

 

Our teachers have been awesome and most care deeply about the kids health and safety, along with their own. Some seem indifferent but that's not the norm. 

Our principal is brand new and walked into this crisis but has not got much support from the board, it seems. 

This is crisis management and we're failing as a community. We're just lucky that we have not had any cases in our school (but in the attached daycare, we have). 

 

They need to use the library, the gymnasiums, and the band rooms to get facilitate a safe social distancing. So far, they haven't done it.

Covid is a runaway train atm and there is nothing we can do about it until this cycle runs it's course in about a month, just in time for people to restart another cycle during the holidays

That seems to run completely counter to what all the health officials are saying. There's lots we can do...like pulling our heads out of our asses and stop gathering in groups. Stop going out if you're even a LITTLE bit sick. Stay home as much as you possibly can. I don't think this is something that is just going to start getting better again with people doing nothing. The only way it's going to get better is if we all start doing the right thing and actually PREVENT it from spreading.

Unfortunately we let our guard down and it's biting us in the arse, that and there are people that know they are sick got positive test and continue to go to parties, gatherings and work. There will always be people that don't give a shiate about anything but themselves and have to ruin it for everyone else.
