That requires humility and self-effacement. The current occupant of the White House provides exactly the opposite model. So many of his lies are so simply disproven (“my inauguration was the biggest ever” - “here are pictures and mass transit data easily and unequivocally disproving that” - “fake news”) and yet he brazenly and with blind confidence doubles down every time. And he is admired by many for that characteristic. THAT is the difficulty in changing minds today, people’s egos are too caught up in their positions to admit they are wrong, and on the flip side too many who want to prove them wrong do it to feel a sense of superiority over others and hold it over them, rather than to genuinely embrace knowledge and lead to more enlightenment. bustamente Posted October 21, 2020 Report Posted October 21, 2020 No surprise really with the explosion in cases, experts expected a second wave and that it would worse that the first go around, sure we could of done more but people want their freedom and let their guard down so we find ourselves with pockets of new cases day after day, this will not change anytime soon. There is only one way to bring down the levels to a couple of cases here or there but I don't think there is any stomach for a total shutdown by the government or general public. JCon 1

FrostyWinnipeg Posted October 22, 2020 Report Posted October 22, 2020 (edited) Four additional #COVID19 deaths reported today: - Man in his 80s and a man in his 70s from the Winnipeg health region and are linked to the outbreak at Parkview Place - Man in his 80s from the Winnipeg health region - Man in his 80s from the Interlake–Eastern health region And the latest news has one of the poultry workers from Blumenort in his early 40's as having died but apparently this was last week but only now being tied to the poultry plant. Northern Regional Health Authority and Churchill: RESTRICTED New COVID-19 public health orders will be issued for the Northern health region and Churchill by the Chief Provincial Public Health Officer. These orders will come into effect Monday, Oct. 26, 2020 and remain in effect for a minimum of two weeks. Under the new orders: The maximum size of gatherings is reduced to five people. This applies to ceremonies such as weddings and funerals and social events like banquets and receptions, as well as informal gatherings such as dinners and house parties. Gatherings involving more than five persons may take place if: the number of persons attending does not exceed 30 per cent of the usual capacity of the place or premises where the gathering is held; the place or premises where the gathering is held is physically divided into separate areas which contain no more than five persons each; and persons in each area are prevented from coming into close proximity with persons in another area during the gathering as well as when entering or leaving. Casinos and bingo halls must close. Entertainment facilities with a license under the Liquor, Gaming and Cannabis Control Act that requires the licensee to present live entertainment must close to members of the public, with the exception of providing food for take-out or delivery. Other licensed businesses must limit occupancy to 50 per cent of their usual capacity. The maximum occupancy of retail businesses is limited to 50 per cent of their usual capacity. The maximum occupancy of restaurants is limited to 50 per cent of their usual capacity. The maximum occupancy of personal service businesses is limited to 50 per cent of their usual occupancy or one person for each 10 square metres of the premises that is open to the public, whichever is less. Operators of a restaurant or licensed premises, theatre, museum, gallery, library, personal service business, concert hall, or fitness facility are required to keep contact information for members of the public attending their premises and maintain those records for 21 days to support contract tracing. Individuals in the Northern health region must also: Wear a mask in all indoor public places. Stay home when sick. Practice social distancing, hand washing/sanitizing and cough etiquette. Follow public health guidance on travel and self-isolation. Vulnerable people, such as seniors, are encouraged to exercise additional caution. Previous provisions in place for all other sectors, not listed above, in this region remain in place. Further direction or additional restrictions may put in place by public health at any time. Winnipeg Schools... In addition, the following measures will be put in place for schools in the Winnipeg Metropolitan Region and the Northern health regions under the Restricted Level (Orange), effective Oct. 26, 2020: Schools must ensure two meters of physical distancing to the greatest extent possible, and adjust classroom space as necessary; excess furniture must be removed from classrooms to create additional space; other spaces within schools must be repurposed to accommodate more distancing (e.g., multipurpose rooms, empty rooms, shared spaces, common areas, and libraries). Extracurricular activities are only permitted if all learning and distancing requirements have been met. If these activities continue, established guidelines must be followed and, in the case of sports, participants should maintain distance when not active. Teachers and staff who move across cohorts of students, including substitute teachers, are required to wear medical masks. Medical-grade disposable masks have been issued to all schools. N95 masks are not required. Indoor choir and the use of wind instruments are not permitted. All field trips must be postponed or cancelled. Blended learning (in-class and online) for grades 9 to 12 where distancing cannot be achieved will continue as per status quo. K-8 students may be offered a temporary remote learning option for the duration of the Restricted level (Orange). All other public health measures will still in effect. Public health officials also advise: an outbreak has been declared at Arborgate School, 70 Normandeau Bay in LaBroquerie, and the school has been elevated to orange on the province’s #RestartMB Pandemic Response System; an outbreak has been declared at Ochekwi Sipi Personal Care Home, Fisher River Cree Nation due to a positive case in a health care worker. The facility has been elevated to red on the province’s #RestartMB Pandemic Response System and additional protocols have been put into place; and the outbreak at Bethesda Place personal care home has been declared over.

I have not been up-to-date with the Feds response to the pandemic- this is very reassuring. Trudeau is not my favorite, but his government seems to be doing a competent job and it is refreshing to see a government be proactive with anything Covid related.
