For those not all that familiar with Ivermectine. It came out in probably the 80s sometime. ( If I recall right )It was an awesome tool in raising various livestock. It kills pretty much all parasites internal and external except Tape worms. They have a different nervous system and it doesn't work on them. One of the issues that came up with its use in  cattle  is there is a little bug called a Dung beetle that live in pastures. They take bits of cow manure and carry it down into the ground. This both aids in breakdown of manure and takes fertilizer to where it is needed. So think about that. This drug is powerful enough that an external dribble on the back of a 2000 lb cow passes into the body, then  into the manure and kills beetles that eat that manure when it has sat in a pasture for a while. Lots of cattleman restrict it's use or alternate it's use or don't use it.  It's a  good product used with care when needed. In what world is that safer than a well tested vaccine ? Not mine anyways.

Edit :I will add in that I know for a fact that an overdose on smaller animals will kill them

Now I have flashbacks to wearing the damned backpack with a hose off it putting a strip of the stuff on every cows back.

The fact people are so pigheadedly stubborn that they will try these things for covid rather than admit they were wrong about vaccines just blows my mind.

They're like little children and should be treated as such.

To be clear I’m not an advocate for people to take Ivermectin for Covid in lieu of getting vaccinated.

If you are healthy and able, go get ******* vaccinated.

But Ivermectin has been used on humans for parasites for quite some time.

It is also instrumental in treating river blindness in Africa.

People self treating with Ivermectin and using versions and doses of the drug designed for animals and not humans because that is the only prescription they can get need to give their head a shake

Pastor Fired for Promoting COVID Vaccine on MSNBC’s ‘Morning Joe’

-MSNBC
An evangelical pastor and senior VP for a non-profit called National Religious Broadcasters was fired on Friday for promoting COVID vaccines on MSNBC’s Morning Joe. When Daniel Darling appeared on the show on Aug. 2, he said his faith motivated him to get vaccinated. “I believe in this vaccine because I don’t want to see anyone else die of COVID,” he said. “Our family has lost too many close friends and relatives to COVID, including an uncle, a beloved church member and our piano teacher.” But National Religious Broadcasters, a 1,100-member organization of Christian communicators, told Darling his statements violated their policy of remaining neutral about COVID vaccines, Religion News Service reports. He was told he could sign a statement admitting he had been insubordinate, and admit that his pro-vaccine statements were wrong, or be fired. He chose the latter.

Indeed it has been used on humans in some situations and places. As I said its a  pretty awesome product for what it was designed for. But as you say self treating with if is nuts. I actually know someone who wiped out their farm cats by trying to use it on them.

As a treatment / preventative for Covid my understanding is there was ONE  preliminary study done on it . It MAYBE showed some effect. But that study was never peer reviewed and the results were for some reason released before it was reviewed. I've never seen or read anything that would suggest it would remotely compete with vaccines. I would suggest the reason they haven't researched it more is because vaccines work so well.

Josh Guenter PC MLA came out strongly against these new policies. Did I mention he represents Borderland, right smack in Southern Health including Stanley and Altona? Ignorant *******. PCs should kick him and Teistma out of caucus.

Apparently they are concerned that restrictions to unvaccinated people will cause them to be less likely to get vaccinated. I'm sure that's their real concern with the new restrictions 🙄

Whatever Guenter has been doing so far to encourage people in his riding to get vaccinated without restrictions has worked wonderfully so far.

I heard about Ivermectin and Covid a month or two back.  As far as I can tell this is the origin of it.

Even if this does prevent Covid, it would need to be taken regularly (weekly I believe) by enough of the population until the virus stopped spreading and died out.  Which seems more complicated and error prone then people getting a couple of shots.

I was never quite sure if it was touted as a prevention or treatment for Covid, but according to the link it would be for both.

I haven't heard anything recently on treatments for Covid, when the pandemic was first declared I assumed treatments would make more progress than vaccines. Maybe they have, but most of what I have come across has been about vaccines.

Another thing I remember reading about a month ago was the potential for intranasal vaccines. The article I read previously, and can't find now, claimed that they would likely be better at preventing transmission.

They claim it does work to treat but I think most effective at preventing.

The problem I see with using it as an alternative to vaccines, is using it to cure means it won't stop Covid from spreading and mutating, and using it to prevent seems a logistical nightmare to implement at a societal level.

Imagine if people who are against showing proof of vaccination had to show proof they were taking a pill every week.

Yeah, I worked with dairy cattle and hogs in my teens and early 20's.  Ivermectin (Ivomec in the animal world) is a common parasite treatment for livestock.

My first reaction was WTH when it was first touted as a Covid treatment.

Conservative radio host who called himself "Mr. Anti-Vax" dies of COVID-19

Yet another right-wing radio host who spent months railing against public health and vaccination efforts succumbed to COVID-19 this weekend after a protracted battle with the virus.

Marc Bernier, who called himself "Mr. Anti-Vax" at one point, died Saturday night after spending three weeks in the hospital. The news was announced by Florida's WNDB-AM/FM on Facebook. He was 65.

Consistent until the end, Bernier's last tweet compared vaccination outreach efforts to Nazi Germany.

What I find infuriating about this sort of thing (antivaxxers getting sick) is that they hoover up resources that those who have taken appropriate measures and gotten sick need as well as diverting resources from others who are critically ill from non-COVID sufferers. In the US private healthcare system, the massive costs of treating critically ill anti-vaxxers will drive up the premiums for all- even those who are not responsible for pandemic. Here in Canada, these idiots will inevitably affect our healthcare system costs as well, but these will be reflected in increased taxes.

Fortunately it seems that the extra burden may be targeted to those who are not vaccinated.

What really frustrated me was, here in Manitoba, we had 6 cardiac patients die because of Covid clogging hospitals. I suspect there has been a lot more than just the 6 patients that were reported by a doctor.

Alberta feed stores inundated with calls for ivermectin over false claims livestock dewormer treats COVID

Alberta feed stores are receiving a deluge of callers asking to buy ivermectin because of misinformation that suggests the drug, usually used to deworm horses and other livestock, can be used to treat COVID-19 in humans. Alberta feed stores say they're receiving a deluge of callers asking to buy ivermectin due to misinformation that suggests the livestock dewormer can be used to treat COVID-19 in humans.

Lance Olson, manager of Lone Star Tack & Feed Inc., located just outside of Calgary, said false claims circulating about the animal medication have brought the wrong kind of attention to his business.

"It's obviously not intended for human use in any way shape or form. It's meant to get rid of worms in horses' guts … so, these people see that ivermectin liquid, they search it, our website comes up and they give us a call thinking that we can just sell it to them," Olson said.

"If you don't know what it is, you probably don't have animals that you're going to use this on … given the circumstances surrounding this stuff it makes it very uncomfortable when people phone … so we've taken it off our shelves."

Liberty University enacts campus-wide quarantine as COVID-19 surges

In the United States, far-right white evangelicals and Christian nationalists have often been the first to downplay the severity of COVID-19, oppose social distancing measures and push bogus anti-masker and anti-vaxxer conspiracy theories. But in Lynchburg, Virginia, Liberty University has enacted a temporary quarantine across the campus after being hit hard by a COVID-19 outbreak.

The Associated Press' Alicia Victoria Lozano reports, "The quarantine is scheduled to end September 10, the university said. There were 159 active COVID-19 cases among students and staff as of Saturday, (August 28), according to the school's coronavirus dashboard. The university has about 15,000 students and 5000 faculty or staff members on campus. The majority of infections, 124 cases, are among students."

According to Lozano, the current COVID-19 outbreak at Liberty University is even worse than the one it suffered in September 2020.

"Last week," Lozano observes, "40 students and staff members had tested positive for COVID. The current spike surpasses the previous high of 141 cases last September when nearly 1200 people connected with the campus were quarantined."

Liberty University doesn't have a COVID-19 vaccination requirement for either students or faculty, according to Lozano.  During the quarantine, classes at Liberty University will only be held online — not in person — and large indoor gatherings will be forbidden.

(This is serious. If students die, that would affect income)

Far-right Mississippi governor slammed for claim Christians fear COVID less because they 'believe in eternal life'

With COVID-19's ultra-infectious Delta variant raging in the United States — especially in red states with low vaccination rates — Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves is arguing that residents of his state are "a little less scared" of the pandemic than other Americans because they tend to be more religious. And the Republican governor is being mocked without mercy on Twitter.

At a GOP fundraiser in Memphis on August 26, Reeves commented, "When you believe in eternal life — when you believe that living on this Earth is but a blip on the screen, then you don't have to be so scared of things."

Downplaying the severity of the COVID-19 pandemic — which, according to Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, has killed more than 4.5 million people worldwide — has been common among MAGA Republicans, many of whom have fought against protective face masks, vaccination, social distancing and other things that save lives.
