Manitoba's low bivalent vaccine uptake worries health-care experts as XBB.1.5 variant spreads

Just under 18% of Manitobans have 1 dose of bivalent COVID-19 vaccine, province says

CBC News · Posted: Jan 11, 2023 3:08 PM CST | Last Updated: January 11

Manitoba health-care workers and researchers say low uptake of bivalent COVID-19 vaccines is concerning, especially in light of a highly contagious variant of the virus that causes the illness now spreading in Canada and the U.S.

Just 17.5 per cent of Manitobans had received at least one dose of a bivalent vaccine — one that targets both the original strain of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 and the Omicron variant — as of the end of last month, according to data provided by the province.

Just under 21 per cent of people had received any dose of a COVID-19 vaccine — whether an initial dose or a booster shot — in the last six months, the province said.

Doctors Manitoba president Dr. Candace Bradshaw says that's concerning in the face of XBB.1.5 — an Omicron subvariant which has been nicknamed "Kraken."

Gonna head to the clinic and get mine today, I think. I'm officially 6 months from my last dose on Jan 21, but I'm told they'll give you the shot anytime after 5 months, so I think I should be deemed eligible. That new variant is no joke, and I want no part of it.

Any variant is no joke regardless of the different types of severity. Protect yourself and others while enjoying your many freedoms and rights.

The number of people who died due to alcohol increased to "new highs" during the COVID-19 pandemic, Statistics Canada says in data published today

The federal agency's preliminary data shows that in 2019, before the pandemic, 3,200 deaths related to alcohol were recorded. A year later, the number of deaths increased to 3,790, and increased again in 2021 when there were 3,875 alcohol-induced deaths.

The 18 per cent increase from 2019 to 2020 was the largest year-over-year change seen in the last 20 years, Statistics Canada noted. Alcohol-induced deaths are those attributed to one of the causes of death listed in the report, which include alcoholic liver disease, accidental poisoning by and exposure to alcohol, and finding of alcohol in blood.

Now if the variant caused male impotence, the clinics would be swamped.

Ummm.

Researchers are piecing together that surviving COVID-19 may be associated with erectile dysfunction (ED). The research points to three factors that can lead to the potential onset of ED in men who have had the virus:

  1. Vascular effects. Erectile function is a predictor of heart disease, so we know that the vascular system and reproductive system are connected. We also know that COVID-19 can cause hyperinflammation throughout the body, especially in the heart and surrounding muscles. Blood supply to the penis can become blocked or narrowed as a result of a new or worsened vascular condition caused by the virus.
  2. Psychological impact. Sexual activity is closely associated with mental health. The stress, anxiety and depression caused by the virus and pandemic can be linked to sexual dysfunction and poor mood.
  3. Overall health deterioration. ED is typically a symptom of an underlying problem. Men with poor health are at greater risk for developing ED and also for having a severe reaction to COVID-19. Since the virus can cause a plethora of health issues, general poor health is cause for concern both for ED and other complications.

“Erectile dysfunction can be a marker of overall health,” explains urologist Ryan Berglund, MD. “So particularly for young and healthy people who abruptly develop erectile dysfunction, and especially after having COVID-19, this can be a sign of something more serious going on.”

Where do u even go get the shots. I have 3. Thinking bout more.

I just not sure where to go really. Convention center and soccer plex was packed the first couple times. Took them away it seems, now ppl like me not sure where to go. For some reason the minute the mass injection sites were shut down, most younger  ppl said **** it.

Most pharmacies are giving them but you can find places pretty easily. https://manitoba.ca/covid19/vaccine/finder.html

Only based on Florida and Ohio data, but I'm not surprised at all.  Excess death rates were about equal when government measures enforced safety measures.  Once vaccines were made available (and optional), Republicans started dying at twice the rate of Dems.

The 2022 Darwin Award should be given to the GOP.

Shopper Drug Mart. Just show up. You don't have to make an appointment for Covid. You do for the flu online.

And many more people have died from Cancer and other reasons.   People adjust and move on,   nearly everyone that I know is living life exactly the same way pre pandemic with going out and socializing and not wearing masks in public.   No one is denying COVID is gone, but the mass hysteria and extreme over reactions causing fear is gone.   I think most people were taking vaccines out of fear of the unknown.      Fast forward today and most people who did take the vaccine to be safe... ended up getting COVID and realized it's not as scary as the media made it out to be.

If you are terrified and read the internet and get spooked by these numbers then nothing is stopping yourself from staying at home and avoiding people and having groceries and whatever else delivered to your house.   Just because you have those thoughts does not mean people who do not are wrong.
