The have one of the top 3 goalies in the league, elite Top 6 talent on the wings and a point per Game Center all under the age of 27 (except for the Captain). They have Buff’s ( and possibly Little’s) cap space and they now have a shot at the #1 pick. They also have some quality prospects on the back end coming in Samberg and Heinola plus Niku might make a nice adder in a trade. They legitimately need a 2C and a top 4 defender (with some size) and can use the cap space and perhaps the depth on W to address. If they happen to win the lottery, landing Lafreniere (you either trade the pick or move another LW to bolster the roster) enhances that. While they are not a legit cup contender today, there are still too many quality pieces for a complete rebuild. Moving one of the wingers might shakeup the chemistry too. Tony Fresco Posted August 7, 2020 Report Posted August 7, 2020 I should add, with the cap staying flat, Chevy needs to weaponize our cap space. This will be Chevy’s biggest offseason test as a GM. Not just drafting and developing anymore, he needs to mould this team into a contender utilizing the assets they have.
BomberBall Posted August 7, 2020 Report Posted August 7, 2020 Eakin was asleep at the wheel on that 2nd goal. Other than that, he was pretty much invisible in the series. ONE shot from your 2C, is beyond awful. blue_gold_84 1

Noeller Posted August 7, 2020 Report Posted August 7, 2020 Excited for the off-season already. Lafreniere would be humongous. Hoping Chevy can use Buff's money properly and restock the back end. Whenever they get started again on a proper season (December?), things will look different, I'll bet.

Yeah, it does start in December i also thought. Mid-Oct last game. then 1.5 months off then camp. Wonder if another shortened season. Suspect as much. EDM/TOR continue to be hub cities. Noeller 1
bb1 Posted August 7, 2020 Report Posted August 7, 2020 (edited) We lost four starting d from last year, Buff really hurt us though. Demelo idk we lack toughness on the D and as a team overall. Is there a top D that will come here? Tough year. Chevy definitely has his most challenging offseason in a long time. Edited August 7, 2020 by bb1 JCon 1

HardCoreBlue Posted August 7, 2020 Report Posted August 7, 2020 The disappointment of losing in this weird pandemic qualifying round has quickly dissipated and has been replaced with we’re due for a number 1 draft pick. Noeller, blue_gold_84, Stickem and 2 others 3 2

Funny but true Also every other team does not deserve it.
Brandon Posted August 7, 2020 Report Posted August 7, 2020 Every GM that makes or does not make deadline trades and who doesn't win the cup should be automatically fired and scrutinized for ever. Also damn Chevy for not predicting that Buff would bail on the team and damn him for not being able to find an all star level d-man after the trade dead line and draft day where so many high level players are available to pick up! /s
Floyd Posted August 7, 2020 Report Posted August 7, 2020 Kulikov and buff gone - that’s what $10-12 mill? Little is likely retiring... that’s a lot of cap space theres some decent big D on the market - we will get Dillon or Hamonic or both or trade niku and Copp for Trouba... jets are really dropping the ball on developing a second C though - don’t see us trading for one - Roslo needs to step up lafreniere will be nice for seven minutes a game while Maurice seasons him for five years...
iHeart Posted August 7, 2020 Report Posted August 7, 2020 well let's just hope that the Goldeyes can make their post season (I'm not holding my breath for the CFL)
JCon Posted August 7, 2020 Report Posted August 7, 2020 We have about $15M of cap space currently. But we have a lot of holes to fill. We have 4 defenders under contract right now at just over $10M. Hooboy,

Wasn’t going to happen this year. I knew that. I just thought we might have had a bit of a chance in the bubble atmosphere of the NHL being the situation is so weird & the team had 4 months to heal their injuries until the first game back & then BOOM!! Key players gone & lights out. Unfortunate. Mr Dee 1

Stickem Posted August 7, 2020 Report Posted August 7, 2020 Looking at all of those injuries, we can see why we had problems BUT the lackadaisical play in that series was bull$hit...Helle was sharp in the initial game but you could see the play in front of him was way below par and he eventually regressed into the players he had in front of him....A series to forget for sure and I don't know how we replace the quality D we used to have in the near future...but Chevy is going to have to address that immediately Hopefully we get lucky in the draft...A top pick would go along way in securing what we desperately need on D in a trade...Here's hopin'
Brandon Posted August 7, 2020 Report Posted August 7, 2020 Unfortunately I think the club is trying to get 4th line old guys like Letestu as the guy to kick the players in the ass who are doing nothing.... it's not going to work. The team used to have several guys who were on ice leaders.... Wheeler is definitely not enough. BomberBall 1
kelownabomberfan Posted August 7, 2020 Report Posted August 7, 2020 Losing Scheif that early was a dagger to the heart. The team definitely loses their will to win when the going gets tough. That definitely is a sign of a lack of leadership for sure.
