I don't know if they can get it in and for it to survive a SC challenge. They need to get stuff done that can't be easily blocked. End the filibuster, invite PR and DC into statehood, and get healthcare reforms that can be implemented within two years. Of course, all though this is administrative, they need to get the vaccine moving to the states. It's such a bungled mess. Wanna-B-Fanboy 1
Mr Dee Posted January 6, 2021 Report Posted January 6, 2021 All of what you speak is fixable. What wasn’t fixable was Trump. The Democrats and America rectified the biggest threat against Democracy. Americas biggest win, by far, was getting rid of the fake President Trump. Think about it. They were headed for disaster, pure and simple, but enough sane Americans said no, and so they have a chance. The hard part is over. bustamente 1

Trump is only a symptom of the issues- getting rid of him was the easy part, just enough people needed to vote him out. The systemic change required to fix the multifaceted problems that produced trumpism is where the real hard work starts. Headed for disaster? The USA is steeped in disaster: integrity and legitimacy of elections are questioned by MILLIONS of people (which is the bedrock of a functioning democracy), the GOP are going to challenge the veracity of the election results today in each governing body, you have a literal civil war brewing, media and social media are fomenting hate on both sides that make the divisions in the USA so much greater than at anytime in history, the money poisoning politics, and so on... that is a lot... I think the hardest part is just on the horizon. I appreciate your optimism, though. Tracker 1

I dont know what would have happened, it would all depend on the make up of the senate and congress I reckon. I agree that getting rid of trump was yuge, I just see it as the most immediate and easiest step is all- systematic change? That's where the hard work starts.

Trump was never going to go easy. Here we are, Jan 6, and he’s still inciting his muttons to do his bidding. It wasn’t easy, but it was absolutely necessary. There would be no USA today if Trump somehow managed to win. There still might not be. But with majority, Dems at least have a chance. Only a short month or so ago, could we have thought even that?

TrueBlue4ever Posted January 6, 2021 Report Posted January 6, 2021 Once the Capitol is cleared, I hope all Democrats return, no matter what state the building is in, no matter what time it is, and say “let’s continue with the certification”. No delay, no excuses. Have the National Guard surround the chamber if they have to. Get Pence back in and demand that he count the votes ASAP. Sit amid the destruction - no attempt to tidy the mess - and do your job, and if a Republican (any not too chicken **** to show up) still wants to question it, hold the debate right there in the chamber, let them have their little stunt, let the Republicans fight amongst themselves for the allotted time, then quietly say “let’s vote on it”, shut it down, and move on to the next state until the certification happens. Don’t care if it takes until 10:00 am tomorrow as long as they take no breaks and show the US citizens and the world that for once they take the job seriously and are willing to plow through the night to get the job done. Show the MAGA idiots that democracy will not be intimidated, but do it amidst the ruins so the GOP can ruminate on what they have wrought.

Disagree. Trump and his supporters were setting the stage for all this way back in 2016 when Trump said outright that he would not accept a loss in that election. All of the Proud Boys/Oathkeepers/Qanon/Wolverines etc etc have been letting it be known for months that they would resort to violence if things did not go their way. Shocking video catches Capitol Police member taking selfies with insurrectionists President Donald Trump's supporters seized the U.S. Capitol, stealing shields and batons and began breaking the windows and began shooting into the House chamber while scared U.S. Representatives and Senators hid under their chairs, some with gas masks on. Meanwhile, at least one Capitol Police officer was taking selfies with those breaking into the building. The man was wearing a hat and mask, but his green vest clearly said "Police," and on his sleeve, he had the insignia of the Capitol Police. The moment was captured while someone was live-streaming the attack on the U.S. Capitol from Trump's rioters.
