well that's intriguing... nobody can compete with QX. Companies have tried and failed over and over again. Winnipeg just isn't that much of a Country music city to have that many country stations. The NCI/APTN folks are desperately trying with Now 104 and NCI, but the ratings are dismal. Not sure how Corus figures another Country station is a good idea..... unless they're planning on syndicating most of it with out of province voices to keep the costs way down so the ratings don't matter....?? Curious decision anyhow...

whatever I'm only listening to CFRY right now because they have the rights to Gipp Forster's It Feels Like Christmas (I will admit I wish it as still on CJOB because that jingle is just not the same without "On CJOB" add-on)

He tells some great stories. Forster passed away. These are old stories.

yeah I'm aware that he's been gone for a decade, but the nostalgia still remains, CJOB had been playing them for as long as I can remember

Tom McGouran went to that station.

he did, indeed.... and another Winnipeg Rock radio icon in the PMs...... they really don't care too much about the Country music genre over there. It's more about "entertainment", which is fine.... regardless, nobody's keeping up with QX. They just destroy everyone. I'm not sure how the other ones are even staying afloat, with (among) the lowest ratings in the city...

So apparently the new Corus Country station that replaced Peggy.... Mornings are syndicated from Edmonton, Midday and Afternoons from Calgary. Nothing out of Winnipeg so far, is my understanding. Will be very generic on air content, I suppose.

Changed the title to better reflect the overall content of the thread.

Well it makes sense after all it started with TSN 1290 shuttering

Bell Media and Corus kind of suck there was a reason I made Corus a personal F-Bomb target last year

I'd say Rogers is the lesser of these evils, but considering the connectivity issues I had been dealing with the last little while......

We get to listen to Ben Mulroney's Toronto MORNING show at 12-2 after Corus cut 27 year CHQR veteran talk show host Rob Breakenridge here in Calgary. What an insult to the listening audience across Canada. Breakenridge was one of the best news interviewers on radio anywhere. Always prepared he can talk to just about everyone. Eff off Corus. Once they got rid of Breakenridge, That was a deal breaker for me. I stopped listening.

Myself, I am thanking Corus management for putting Ben Mulroney on in the afternoons. Now, I turn off the radio and turn on podcasts, now instead of being entertained I get educated...

Is this a thing on their Talk formats like OB? Jeeze that's something. One way to save some cash I guess....
