In 1984 the MVP and Richard Suderman award winners both received brand new Chrysler Cordobas, with rich Corinthian leather interiors. Ah, memories are made of this. I almost bought that Cordoba that Ricardo Montalban was pitching for Chrysler in that commercial. It was a very nice car. Much more stylish than it's predecessor. However, I bought a Mercury Cougar XR7 just like this one. Same colour & wheels as the one pictured above. I dithered for an entire weekend trying to decide keeping 2 salesmen wondering WTH I was doing. It was my first new car so it was a big decision. My first new job after graduating university. I was never in debt before so the decision for me at age 25 was rather scary. My dad kept telling me I was crazy to buy brand new & that I should look at saving my money & buy a used car but I wanted a new car. Little did I realize the house, wife & kids were still to come. It was a great car & I never regretted my decision. Edited December 24, 2021 by SpeedFlex27 kelownabomberfan, Eternal optimist, wbbfan and 1 other 3 1
no71 Posted December 24, 2021 Report Posted December 24, 2021 2021 wasn’t better than 2019 … but 2021 made 2019 better. First cup in 29 years was a huge relief … but it was also just one cup in 29 years … now we have two in a row. Our players were amazing in 2019 .. but there are Grey Cup winners every year … now they’re a once in a decade team. “Finally” was turned into memorable greatness. I remember sitting there in the 4th quarter when we were down by 12 & being unbelievably calm. I remember thinking we can come back but it's going to be hard. I remember thinking if we lose the game I'm still extremely proud of the Boys in Blue & Gold. They didn't disappoint as they found a way to win. It was like this was Destiny's Team. That it was supposed to happen that way. That win was so satisfying. That last play for the interception was one for the ages & may have been the greatest play in Bomber history. It may have been? Let me correct myself. It was the greatest play in Bomber history!! no71, GCJenks, coach17 and 4 others 7

Covered this ground a bit in a past thread: Not sure where I would rank the Wilson pick at the moment in my list. Don’t think I would put it at #1 right now, but it may age well and be in contention for sure. But one thing is for sure, to be a truly all-time great play, it needs a nickname that defines it without further elaboration. And “the immaculate interception” is already taken, so no go there. Maybe “the tip drill”?

Now, the full gravity of just how great that play is sinking in. 14 minutes ago, Booch said: I don't see the cats escaping the east in 2022 They promoted Steinhauer to keep him around. Giving him more responsibility won't make him a better head coach. But such is the CFL today with that damned admin & coaches cap. Edited December 25, 2021 by SpeedFlex27

That way, if the catch is made they have a better chance to make the tackle or slow down the receiver until help arrives. Mark H., Saidin and Noeller 1 2

Stickem Posted December 25, 2021 Report Posted December 25, 2021 (edited) Nichols saved that game with as clean as a stop that you could want...Perfect position and one helluva play...It was so clean that the ref didn't even hesitate to point .....'return to your huddle cats and take your three cuz the Bombers want this one more than ye' ..Of course it wasn't said but I think every Cat fan in the stadium...including their coach went ..'UH OH'.......We just got to have that little db back for the 3 peat in 22'....We don't get that shot in OT if Nichols doesn't make that stop..... I don't know what game you were watching or what rules you use to define great plays. I'm not going to research the Top 10 All Time Bomber Greatest Grey Cup plays as that would take too long. I'll give you My Top 3... 1. THE PICK in Overtime: 2021 2, The Deflection & Interception on the Goal Line (All Mike Gray): 1988 3. You may want to send a letter to TSN as well. They did their top 100 plays of the year on Christmas Eve, and that interception did not make the top 100.

Outside of televising games TSN spends little time promoting the CFL. But I'm sure 10-15% of those top plays were made by the Leafs. Oh look, another UNBELIEVABLY BEAUTIFUL tip in goal by Matthews. As far as what you believe, you're free to think whatever you want. I never even looked at the list. Edited December 27, 2021 by SpeedFlex27 Noeller 1

SpeedFlex27 Posted December 27, 2021 Report Posted December 27, 2021 The more I think about The Pick to win the Grey Cup, the more in awe I become. When you watch that play, the intelligence, athleticism & timing of that play with Deatrick Nichols deflecting the ball, Winston Rose having the presence of mind tto scoop the ball to Linebacker Kyies Wilson who cradled that ball like a newborn baby was probably a one in 10,000 play kinda thing. In all my years watching football going back to 1965 & maybe even a bit before, I have never seen anything like that. It was the greatest play I have ever seen. That was our defense working together just like they have all year to win a championship at the most critical time. It wasn't one player making an exceptional play. It was 3 with the help of the other 9. The Bombers Mike Gray interception on the goal line in the 1988 Grey Cup, Joe Namath guaranteeing a New York Jets win in over the 3 TD favourite Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III. The Immaculate Reception by the Steeler's Franco Harris against the Oakland Raiders in the 1972 AFC Championship Game, Houston Oiler's RB Earl Campbell's exceptional run down the sidelines in 1978 on ABC MNF, Marcus Allen's reverse pivot for a 74 yard TD run in Super Bowl XVIII. Hamilton Ti Cats Tony Champions outstretched Monster Catch for a TD in the 1989 Grey Cup (considered the greatest play in GC history), Well, move over Tony & everybody else as The Pick is now Number One as I see it.
