Former Bombers in NFL (and spring leagues) news

I can't see the Bombers signing Streveler. We have higher needs elsewhere. Offensive line.  Should the Bombers decide to go with 3 Americans. Interior DL We're vulnerable to the run. We get little push from the guys there now. Secondary, if Houston is out for any length of time. Love to have Streveler back but He'd want some big money to play here.

Yeah...I agree we need an interior dline guy...not sure if Brandin Bryant is on bubble in Buffalo..but he spent the yr on PR last yr..prob doesnt have much pr eligibility left...would love to see him back here as a nice returnee...just what the doctor ordered

Jets doing an awful job of keeping the play in bounds on final Giants drive.

I don't know why the Jets would keep Flacco.

White is the better, younger version of him.

Streveler is a RPO guy like their actual starter.

I actually think that game hurt Stevs chance of getting on the roster, but probably helped his chance of sticking around in the league.  Not because his performance wasn't good enough but because  White played pretty well. 

That being said... he was dialed in... every pass was at least decent

Was just gonna say, there's gonna be a lot of confused CFL fans who kept saying Streveler can't throw the ball, after he makes the Jets while throwing multiple game winning TDs.

Yeah maybe.  They are so locked into Flacco it seems.  He's 6-17 in the last 5 years as a starter and not getting better at 37 going on 38.

White at least has some upside in the same pocket passer type role, and has outperformed Flacco pretty drastically this preseason and last regular season.

Keeping Flacco is probably a mistake, but not a mistake that risks getting you fired (nobody blames someone for keeping a veteran qb around).   Cutting Flacco is probably not a mistake, but if it is a mistake it's a mistake that loses you a job.

also have to remember that not a ton of pro athletes do well after retirement financially. Any time you get huge sums of cash or pay with out the financial skills normally attributed to earning that kind of cash the rate of bankruptcy goes sky high. It’s a great safety net for a lot of guys. 
 

for guys who come from poverty, learning to manage a 6 or 7 figure income is harder than staying in the league. 
 

id like to see the pension be much better for guys who don’t play a lot of games or earn big bucks. If you go through three training camps and pre seasons with out playing enough games to earn the pension you’ve still put your body through a whole lot.

The ability of people to defend plop are evaporating more and more every day. The wrs we bring in don’t suck. Strevy can throw. He didn’t win with Masoli. 
 

Super proud of strevy. I’m sure he will get an nfl job this year some where if the jets cut him.

The bottom line is the players resist funding the pension so they get what they get.  Yeah their careers aren't long but they make in one year what other people in relatively normal careers make in 15-20 years.  They wouldn't have to shave much more off to give themselves a pretty nice 6 figure pension.

That’s true. And it’d be good for the league if they trimmed from the top 20% to fund it and reduce the entry limits.

NHL seems more generous than the NFL.

Simplified:

NHL Service

What you receive in the form of a pension depends on your NHL service – how many years/games you earn.

• Full Service: You’ve been in the league for ten years and have received 82 games per season for pension purposes. If you reach this threshold, you will receive the maximum pension benefit, currently $255,000 per year.
• Partial Service: You’ve spent time with the big club, but also in the minors. If you haven’t reached the 10-year full-service threshold when you retire, you’ll still receive a pension, but it will be reduced based on how many games you’re rewarded per season. Here’s an example taken from the CBA:

In this example, the player did not meet the full-service requirements because they spent some time in minors early on in their career, and therefore did not receive 82 games-played for pension purposes in those seasons. They’ll receive a reduced pension of $197,625 per year. This reduced pension amount will vary, depending on each players’ career length and games earned.
